Ethan held Heisenberg's hand as if he were on the edge of a precipice much larger than that hole. He knew he would be kicked down, but his heart jumped when he felt the man's gloved hand holding him and giving him one last chance to change his mind.
He didn't know Heisenberg.
He didn't know about his past, why he was there.
All he wanted was to have his daughter back, get out and go back to his normal life.
He just wanted a normal life.
"What guarantees me that you will keep your word? Or rather, make sure that my daughter is not going to be used in this madness?" said Ethan, holding the Lord's hand.
Heisenberg laughed and shook his head, looking Ethan in the eyes.
"I have the same wish as yours, Ethan. I just want freedom. I don't want to wake up tomorrow and know that I'll have to kiss the feet of that fucking Miranda!"
The two remained silent for a few seconds; the sound of the factory and the sounds of objects from the room. Ethan's arm began to shake and he was losing strength, and his heart rate increased.
"Are you going to hurt Rose?" Ethan asked and looked away, as if he didn't want to face the beast that was holding him there.
Despite having faced three horrendous and dangerous creatures, this man with such an ordinary figure was messing with him more than he imagined. He looked up and Heisenberg got serious, taking a deep breath.
"I won't. I know you don't trust my word, but... I know how to approach Miranda. I've planned it my whole life!"
"So why do you need my help?" Ethan raised an eyebrow, curious.
"You killed all the other idiots alone, and if you want your daughter back you will need my help. I don't have time to waste and much less her, so I need your answer. Now."
Ethan rang his teeth and looked angrily at Heisenberg, his temper was not one of the friendliest, but he didn't want to know what was down there and wasn't sure if he could defeat Miranda alone.
"Besides... The boxes you found and the tips were planted by me."
Ethan looked surprised and did not believe what he heard.
"You? I thought it was..."
"One of your friends from the police? No... No more talk, answer my question."
"... All right. Only if you promise me that you won't stab my back."
"I promise." Heisenberg pulled Ethan's arm and the chair fell into the hole, making a bang sound.
"What's your plan?"
"I'm glad you asked..."
Heisenberg approached the desk which contained some stacked papers and pulled one of them and opened it wide over the wall, lighting up the cigarette back and arranging the hat. Ethan kept his distance as he watched the man hold the papers over the wall with rusty pieces of metal, blowing smoke and tapping the tip with the index finger, knocking the ashes down to the floor.
"I don't leave the factory, but when I was forced to leave I spent some time looking around the stuff Miranda had, in addition to the conversations I heard hidden from her..."
Ethan became more interested and approached slowly, keeping quiet and letting him continue the monologue. There were some bizarre designs of human bodies mixed with machines and other sinister designs that seemed to have been created for a horror film. Ethan looked at the other corner of the room until Heisenberg pointed to one in particular.
"I have these things here called soldats. Some are more refined than others and..."
"How many people did you kill to do that?"
"Uh?"
"You... Are you joking? Was this meant to be a person?" Heisenberg looked confused at Ethan and then at the table, holding the cigar with his right hand.
"Er... Already dead people. Does that really matter to you?" Ethan stared at Heisenberg, who opened a derided smile - that if wasn't for Ethan's anger at that moment he would have felt chills.
"Anyway, let's use them to attack the bitch! And you'll be able to take advantage of the fight to catch Rose and run away from the village!" Ethan shook his head and pushed away the cigarette smoke with his left hand.
"Yeah, good plan - but are you just going to stand and fight her?"
"YES!" Heisenberg punched his fist on the table, in a happy tone and at the same time determined, causing Ethan to jump back in fright. The man laughed and grabbed one of the drawings; looking at the paper, smoking a little more of his cigarette, and making the father cough with the smoke.
"It has to work... It will work." Heisen said with a worried look, blowing the smoke and leaning on the table.
"... How many of these do you have?"
"I've never counted and I won't - but I'm sure it's enough to kill her."
"Right... So..."
"I only need a few seconds..." Heisenberg said in a low tone, turning his back to Ethan and taking off his hat. He could see the mechanic's hair floating in the air as if it had electricity up there. Ethan really wanted to ask how his powers worked, but he had other goals in mind at the time.
"After so long... I'm leaving here." He took off the necklace with the compass he carried in his chest and handed it to Ethan.
"Here. In case I don't survive... Put it somewhere high, I don't know." Heisenberg passed by him and opened the door, walking to the upper gate. The man looked at the compass and slid his thumb over the glass, removing some oil it contained on top of the object and climbing behind the fourth Lord.
Ethan looked out the front door and a thunderbolt tore the sky slowly, lighting up his face as the storm wind shook his hair, the weather had suddenly changed, and the man knew it was unnatural. It was an announcement of what was to come. He looked to his left and saw the mechanic push some cranks that slowly opened doors in the floor, and stairs came down.
"Is there anything else down there?"
"Like I said, I've planned this for years. Follow me." Heisenberg went down the stairs, and Ethan saw only cigar smoke through the entrance, slowly rising into the air and evaporating, leaving a trail of a rustic smell. He hurried down behind him, covering his nose with his right forearm.
"How long do you work for Miranda?"
"Ha! I don't work for her... I just follow a few orders and she lets me keep the factory! She likes me more because I challenge her orders from time to time... I think she likes to be challenged."
"I understand..."
"... But I have vague memories of my life before she showed up."
"Is that why you're planning all of this?"
"... Of course."
Ethan continued down the stairs and in his thoughts he began to understand more clearly his motivations. He didn't know for sure what Miranda did with the others but from what he understood Heisenberg seemed to be a common resident of the region.
Dimitrescu and Donna also seemed to be ordinary people in the past but not now, which raised more questions about how Karl was the only one who looked normal among the four lords. Ethan heard noises from machinery and coolers working and the noise from the gears grew louder; The two stepped on the metal platform. Heisenberg jumped off the last step and landed on the metal platform, activating one of the containers that had the soldats; the creature fell to its knees and stood up. Ethan stood right behind Heisenberg and looked at the horrible creature.
"So... Are they like that?" He said quietly as the creature swung his arms violently to the sides and Heisenberg took a few steps backwards, placing his hand on Ethan's chest.
"Yes, and they will be essential to the fight!"
"And how are you going to control them?"
"I have a main communicator, a device that sends a signal that forms waves and sends messages to the brain, so they can do whatever I want."
"So... Shall we go now?"
"For sure, I'm just going to get the main control." Heisenberg went to the elevator and Ethan ran after him, looking back and seeing the creature walk around tearing the walls with its dangerous drill arms, throwing pheasants, and ranching the metal.
The elevator doors closed and Ethan looked through the crack at the huge factory it contained just below the ground. Modified bodies hung in all corners, the arms of the machines moving and smoke hovering over the ceiling, in addition to unbearable heat. Ethan removed his coat and tied it to his waist, drying the sweat from his forehead with his left forearm and returning to observe the place in silence. He looked slightly to the side and saw Heisenberg, looking at the wall, and with his hands in his pockets, he seemed thoughtful.
"... Something... Bothering you?"
"Ah... Have we reached this level of intimacy? I thought you weren't trusting me."
"... I have no other choice."
Karl laughed and looked at the elevator ceiling, and then at Ethan.
"It's funny...Because I trust you."
Ethan opened his eyes in surprise and quickly disguised himself with a serious expression.
"Trust me?"
"Look, it seems crazy - but since I saw you I thought... That guy looks special, different..."
"Special? I'm just a guy who wants his daughter back and have a normal life far away from here! I don't get why all of you think I'm a god or something like that!"
"..."
"...I don't want to be called that again, alright?"
Karl sighed and moved his right hand, giving a-okay sign and moving back to his pocket.
The elevator continued to go up, without the slightest hurry and that made Ethan more and more anxious and stressed. The light from the gap passed over the wall and disappeared, and he couldn't help but notice the smell Heisenberg had. Sometimes he smelled oil, sometimes rust, cigars ash, and in the end, it was not easy to describe, but it was not very pleasant. Ethan cleared his throat and looked at the ceiling.
"Is there still a long way to go? ... I'm a little rushed..."
"Oh, no, let's stop for a snack and... FUCKING HELL, I'm also in a hurry, Ethan! But I didn't predicted that this elevator would disturb us now!"
"Ok, ok... it was just a question, christ."
Heisenberg looked over his right shoulder and sighed, taking off his gloves slowly. Ethan put his hand on his waist in surprise and held his gun out, afraid he was going to do something.
However, unlike what Ethan thought, Heisenberg was stopping the elevator and forcing the gate to open. He approached slowly and looked up to know the distance to the main panel, moving away and opening the top cover and climbing on it, extending his hand right after to Ethan.
"I'm going to make it go faster, get up here."
Ethan put the gun back in his pocket and took Heisenberg's hand, going up and looking to the top.
"What are you going to do?"
"Ah, this shit is not going to help us, so let's speed things up"
Ethan didn't understand until he lost his balance and fell sitting; Karl was using his powers to force the cables to spin and soon they were both moving faster than before, closer to the floor - but because the cables were worn, they soon wore away with the speed and Heisenberg pulled Ethan by the arm, pushing both out the moment the elevator plummeted. Karl lay on the floor, laughing and Ethan stood up completely enraged.
"Are you fucking lost your mind?!"
"Calm that ass down, you survived the fucking giant fish and now you're scared of an elevator?"
"YOU... AH, FORGET IT! Show me the main panel and let's go after Miranda!"
"Okay, okay... sheesh, you look like a scared cat..."
"If you keep with the games, I will..."
Ethan felt a piece of metal fly quickly over his head and hit the wall.
"HEY! DON'T FORGET THAT YOU'RE AT MY HOUSE! AND I DO WHATEVER THE FUCK I WANT HERE!"
The two looked at each other for a few seconds and then he entered the room, kicking the door and mumbling something that Ethan couldn't hear, but it sure was about him.
