Lily was sitting at a table in the cafeteria waiting on the bell for the first period to ring. "Hey Girly, what's up?" She knew that voice before she could look up from the copy of the Scarlet Letter she was rereading for English class.
"Good morning, Jon." She smiled up the towering football player who gave her the look she had gotten to know oh so well lately. "What do you need help with today?"
"Oh good." He hurriedly sat down next to her and tossed his crumpled up papers in front of her. "I just found out if I don't pass this math test TODAY with at least an 80, I don't get to play Friday night."
She looked at him and rolled her eyes. "Tragic!"
"Come on! Help me! You know me getting that scholarship to State is the only way I leave this hellhole." He smirked at her and winked. "I'll do anything you want."
She giggled. "Ok I'll help you but tonight we're going mudding and I get to drive the truck."
He grimaced, knowing that she was going to say that. He stuck his hand out. "Deal! I'll pick you up after practice." She smiled as she started to explain everything he would need to know. He feveredly took notes as she handed him more paper.
She looked at her watch as she finished talking him through the last problem. Neither of them noticed Audra's best friend staring at them as their heads were close together over his papers. Avery quickly sent her best friend who was home sick a text message to tell her that Jon was sitting with the nerdy tomboy before class and they looked like they were enjoying each other's company. Lily reached into her messenger bag and grabbed an empty folder as Jon stood up and stretched. She put all of his notes into the folder as he smiled down at her. She shook her head as she handed it to him in time to hear the bell ring. "Ok now a little birdy told me that the test is open notes so you got this."
He smiled as he pulled her into a big hug. "I don't know what I would do without you as my tutor, Lil!"
"Fail! That's what you would do...You would FAIL!" She laughed as they parted ways. He shook his head as he met up with a couple of other football players. She walked to her locker and bumped into Dean Winchester. "Good morning?"
He glanced up from his flip phone as she motioned for him to move over. "It is morning, isn't it?"
"Poetic, Winchester." She shut her locker as he looked at her. He smiled knowing that he was irritating her just enough to make the morning fun. "Going to class today or do you have something more important to do?" She glanced at the fact he had no books in his hands.
He sighed as he pulled his book and binder out of the locker he was leaning on. "If you insist, I'll come with you into the bowels of Hell." He put his arm around her shoulders as they walked into their first period class.
"It's a good thing you're cute because your jokes are terrible."
"But they make you smile and that makes me smile." He watched as everyone in the class glared at them. "Ok so which one of us pissed off the normies today."
She shrugged as she sat down. "Who knows? But I'm not fretting about it today."
Avery bounced over to where Lily was eating her lunch outside. "Hey girl!" She flopped down at the picnic table across from her, smiling.
"Hey yourself? Do you need something?" Lily never trusted Avery but today had been a good day so far.
"Oh, I just noticed your fingernails." She reached over and touched Lily's hand. "They could really use some love." Lily pulled her hand back as Avery reached into her purse. "Look, I know we haven't been the best of friends but I'm trying to be better. So I thought you might like to have a mani on me. I mean you're the smartest girl in our class and I think you just need to look more like you belong on top. I paid for you to get your nails done over at Star's. Just bring this nail polish and she knows just what to do." Avery handed her a bottle of what Lily could only call Barbie pink nail polish.
"Thanks, Avery." She took the nail polish even though Avery's actions were confusing her. "That's really nice of you."
Avery smiled as she got up and started to walk away. At the same time, Jon ran towards Lily. "Hey Lil! I did it!" She smiled back at him as he jumped up on the table. "And you're getting the whole Jon treatment tonight!"
He jumped down as she shook her head. "I knew you could…" Before she could finish talking he lifted her up and spun around until they were both laughing. "Ok, ok..go hang out with the team and I'll see you after work."
"Damn straight you will!" He took off running as she just shook her head.
Dean glanced down at his flip phone as he stood next to his locker. He hadn't heard from his dad in over a week and he was pondering if he should call Bobby to get him to send some money for food. He kept thinking that he could just hustle a couple of pool games to score some quick cash but he just didn't want to do that. He looked up to see Lily walking up. "You must've had a good night." He motioned for her to do a little spin in the dress she had on.
She smiled as she humored him. "Yeah, I got my nails done for free so I figured I would dress up to match the color. I guess it just makes me feel good. Cheesy I know but..." She pushed past him a little as she got to her locker. He shook his head and smiled as she continued to swing her skirt around. She giggled as she smiled at him. "Well as much as I love our little conversations in the mornings, I need to run to Mr. Barker's classroom and see if I can get some help with the problems from yesterday." She waved at him and he noticed the bright pink color on her nails.
He flipped his phone back open as a couple of the jocks started past him. One of them shoved a piece of paper into his chest. "Here Winchester, you look like the kind of guy to give a girl a good, rough ride! Maybe you can get some pussy this way."
Dean looked up at him as he grabbed the paper. "Oh I get plenty. Just ask your mom and your sister." He winked at Peter who started to get red in the face. "We had lots of fun last night while you were playing one handed pocket pool." Dean just turned and walked off as he started to cuss him out. Dean glanced at the paper he still had in his grasp. It read:
MEN, IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN! PUSSY PINK PILE ON!
FIND THE GIRLS WEARING PINK NAIL POLISH & SHOW THEM A GOOD TIME!
THE GUY WITH THE MOST CONQUESTS GETS ALL THE SPOILS!
GAMES START AT LUNCH TODAY!
Dean crumbled up the paper, stuffed it in his pocket and rolled his eyes. Barbaric! No girl wants to have some dude, jumping her and taking them like that here! He walked into class and decided to send Bobby a quick text and ask for a couple of dollars until the end of the week.
"No Bobby, we're fine really." Dean was hiding out in the hallway during lunch. "We just haven't seen Dad in over a week and the money he left for food wasn't enough for this town." He listened as Bobby was trying to decide if he needed to come get the boys. "No Bobby, you don't need to come get us. We're doing good at this school...well Sam is doing really good. You know me. I'm getting along without punching any of these fools in the mouth so that's a plus. If you could just spot us a couple of dollars to hold us over. I'm sure that Dad will be back in a few days." He heard a scream and someone running towards him. "Bobby, I'm going to have to let you go. It sounds like trouble is coming towards me."
"Don't punch anyone, boy! I'll send some money Western Union and text you where you need to go pick it. Take Sam out for pizza for me tonight." Bobby hung up as Dean watched as Lily turned the corner running right at him.
"What's going on, Lily?" She kept looking over her shoulder. He could see tears in her eyes.
"You can run but you can't hide from me, little piggy." Dean could hear him yelling. Lily looked at Dean who watched the corner. "I saw the color on your nails. I know what you want and I'm going to give it to you good."
Dean grabbed her hand, looking at her nails. "Shit!" He saw Peter turn the corner. "Sorry, dude! She's mine." Dean grabbed her around the waist and whispered in her ear. "Trust me, Lily." She nodded as he ran them into the chemistry lab. He motioned for her to stand back as he stuck his head out the door to talk to the jock. "Oh no! This is a one man show, dude! I'm about to ruin her for all of you." Dean smirked as the jock nodded in agreement.
"You ride that heifer hard, Winchester! I'll tell the rest of the guys that she's been taken care of. I heard that there's a cash prize for whoever can wreck that one in particular." Peter motioned towards Lily and laughed. "Guess I'm back on the hunt for another pinky." As he started to walk off, Dean locked the door behind him and propped a chair up under the knob for more security.
He turned to Lily and started to take off his leather jacket. He watched her flinch at him. "Don't be like that, Lily. I'm not going to do anything like what HE was trying to do to you. I just don't want to get acetone on my jacket." He walked past her as she relaxed a bit.
"Why was he chasing me? Why have I been groped and manhandled for the last thirty minutes?" She nervously smoothed out the bottom of her skirt.
Dean pulled the paper out of his pocket and blindly handed it to her. "Because of this!" He found the acetone in the cabinet and brought it to her. "Why did you choose THAT color to wear on your fingernails?"
She looked down and ripped the paper into shreds. "I didn't. I should have known that it was a setup. She was being too nice to me and they were just setting me up because Avery saw me with Jon yesterday morning. Fuck them. This all goes back to Audra and her obsession with thinking that Jon is sleeping with me when all I'm doing is tutoring a friend I've known since we were in daycare together. The boy is dumb as a box of rocks but honestly he just doesn't want to live here and work in the factory with his dad forever." Dean took her hand and started to use the acetone to take off her nail polish as she remembered how Avery acted the day before. "I should've FUCKING known better than to trust her." She smiled at how nice Dean was being to her as she vented. "I'm sorry that I thought that you…"
"Don't be sorry. You've got burned and then you had to hear me say what I had to so that Peter would believe me and walk away." He kept working to remove all of the color from her nails. "While I do LOVE a little fun time with a gorgeous woman such as yourself, I would never TAKE what is not offered willingly to me."
She smiled, blushing slightly as Dean complemented her. "How did you know how to use acetone to take off nail polish?"
He smiled as he finished working on her nails. "Acetone is the perfect solvent. It can remove everything." He looked up at her and laughed a little bit. "Let's just say that I've had to clean up some weird stuff in my short life and acetone is a life saver." He walked her over to the sink. "Ok, now wash your hands completely while I go add to the story we're going to tell when we walk out of here. I'm sure there are some waiting outside to make sure I complete the deal." She nodded as he walked over to the door and started banging on it, yelling her name and grunting.
She walked up behind him and started moaning his name loudly in rhythm with the banging. She smiled as he glanced over at her a little shocked. She kissed him on the cheek and whispered. "I've done my research." She winked as she turned him toward her and kissed him on the lips. "Thank you, Dean. You truly are a gentleman."
Dean straightened up and blushed a little bit. "I just did what a real man should've done. Now we need to sell this or …"
"Yeah I know...the next guy might try harder." She messed up her hair and smeared her lipstick a little bit.
Dean handed her his flannel shirt. "Put this on. Button it and tie it at the waist. If anyone asks, I tore the top of your dress but let you have it to cover up because you belong to me now and I don't like to share."
She smiled as she fashioned a cover up using his shirt. He put his leather jacket back on and started moving the chair. "Hey Dean, what are you doing after school?"
"You want the truth or do you want me to lie to you?"
"I would love the truth."
"I'm stopping at Western Union to grab some money that my uncle is sending me to pay for some work I did for him while I was up there this weekend and I'm taking my brother out for pizza. You wanna come with us?"
She smiled. "Of course I would." He unlocked the door, opening it to a couple of guys loitering around the hallway. "I mean now that I belong to the great," she glanced over to see the guys watch her. She put her arm around his neck and kissed him again. "Massive Dean Winchester, I would love to go out with you tonight." She watched the guys just deflate as Dean smirked at them. "I'll be waiting for you after school, big boy." She winked as she walked to her next class.
Dean stood by the big oak tree waiting on Lily to come out. He glanced up to see Audra and her group of friends waiting just across the way from him. Audra waited for Lily to walk closer to him before she yelled, "Hey Winchester, you want to come collect your prize for a job well done?"
Before Dean could say anything, Lily smiled at him and said, "He sure does! Do you have cash, bitch?" Audra jumped off the bench where she was sitting and got nose to nose with Lily before Dean could step between them. "The next time you have a problem with me, you come to me. Don't send your goons out to fucking rape me and any other girl who had the off chance of wearing that awful color of nail polish! That's a bitch move by a little girl who thinks I'm the one she needs to worry about." Lily watched Audra's face change as it dawned on her what Lily was saying. "Jon and I are friends and we've been friends for YEARS." She looked at Audra again. "JUST FRIENDS...your best friend on the other hand does like his truck for reasons other than mudding." Both girls looked at Avery who started acting like she wasn't paying attention to what was going on. "Audra, I'm not the one you should worry about. I'm helping him pass his classes and that's all. Now give Dean the money you owe him for showing me a good time."
"Seriously?" Audra pulled the bank envelope out of her purse. She gave Lily a questioning look.
Lily grabbed it and walked back over to Dean, smiling. She kissed him with a passion that made Dean smirk when they broke the kiss. She looked over her shoulder at Audra and smiled. "Seriously! Now I think you need to have a talk with your 'friend' over there." She grabbed Dean's hand and shrugged at Audra. "Check in seats of the truck. You might find something that isn't yours but does go with someone's cheer uniform." She winked as Avery's face dropped knowing that she screwed up. Lily smiled as she and Dean walked away.
