"Hey, eh Yoite? I have something in the oven for when the guys are coming back. If you want I'll be able to fix you something too."
Gau popped his head around the corner. The door to Yukimi's place was left open so that he could keep an eye on the sick ninja that was left behind. The poor Yoite was in no state to be up and about in the heavy rain. Yukimi has had a hard time keeping him from leaving the place and now that he had to go himself Gau was asked to watch over his sorry ass.
At first glance Gau couldn't find the kira user sitting on its usual place; sitting on the filthy floor affront of the television. Though the television was on since Yukimi had left… The couch, were Yoite sometimes sat, was empty as well.
With a heavy sigh the curly kid wiped off his hands on his pink kitchen apron before entering the scary place. It was scary… because it was quiet and dark. The flashes that came from the television highlighted the filth that was scattered across the room. "W-where the hell are you, Yoite? Didn't Yukimi say you'll have to stay at home and rest?"
Now, things got creepy. Really creepy.
Somewhere from under the desk behind him, Gau heard a low growling sound. Followed by rustling sounds. Before he could turn around a tall shadow creeped over him, making Gau shiver. "I do what I want."
The raspy voice replied. And it wasn't recognizable to Yoite's normal soft spoken tone, anymore. It sounded like it had taken over by an electric chainsaw. Meaning Yoite was getting worse instead of better.
Slowly, very slowly, Gau turned around while laughing sheepishly. "F-food. I was wondering if you want something?" Yoite, not looking his best, stared at him with a tilted head. As if he was a dog hearing the word 'treat'.
"Oh… erm…okay," was his answer.
"How about some rise soup. Something light," offered Gau since he had taken a good look at the sick ninja. The poor tall kira user looked like the death. His skin was greyish white and Yoite looked years older than this morning, because of the pain filled grimace.
Yoite nodded. The thought of food probably made him a bit more self-aware as he deflated instantly out of his scary posture. He took some steps towards the couch but stopped suddenly. Gau would not be surprised if the poor ninja keel over. But it was just a sneeze. And not in an elegant kind of sneeze. He… like… sneezed-sneezed. It made the room shiver as well as the snotty ninja itself. there was no way Yoite was able to walk on his own, with legs that wobbly.
Annoyed at his weakened state Yoite accepted the help from the curly one. He got steered to the couch and there Yoite just gave in to the softness of the fabric and relaxed a bit while he sunk into the couch. In the meantime, Gau was gathering a few things like a blanket and some kind of tissue box that looked old and moldy. Without a thought Yoite grabbed one of the tissues and cleaned himself up. But the thing was… his hands felt heavy. So heavy he couldn't finish blowing his nose. It was a pathetic sight. And Yoite was well aware of this while trying to hold in his coughs. Those deep blue orbs moved around but avoided the curly one. Another sneeze. Another cough... Sweat was forming on his forehead. There was nothing Yoite could do to stop failing his normal posture.
Gau found himself feeling extremely sad for his fearful friend. "Just… wait here now, okay? Soup is done in a minute."
…
Gau didn't take any risk with the soup and made it as light as possible. Cleaning up puke was not one of his jobs. When it was done Yukimi's room had grown very quiet now that the TV was muted. Yoite sat a bit straighter on the couch as if he was looking at something intensely, but it wasn't the TV. Putting down the soup onto the table Gau heaved a sigh in worry, figuring Yoite must be hallucinating from the fever he got. But that wasn't the case. Yoite made a sudden move towards the soup while frowning in sorrow. "It's okay, Gau. I can feel your worries, you know." His voice a bit more like himself, Yoite grabbed the spoon handed to him. "Thank you for the food," he said politely. Gau relaxed a bit. "No problem."
For a while, Gau observed the sick ninja while he devoured the soup quickly. It was no secret Yoite had lost his taste and no longer enjoyed the food like every other soul. It was just something that gave the kira user temporary strength. Eating much before a case was the only thing that could finish the job, these days. But the strength would vanish sooner every day. "Why are you still here, Gau?" the sick ninja asked quietly after finishing his dinner.
That was the moment when Gau noticed how Yoite touched the table first before placing the bowl and spoon on it. "Oh… you… you can't see… Yoite?" It was like a stone dropping in his stomach when Yoite tensed a bit, knowing his defeat. "Only for the moment, Gau."
A blind ninja was no use for the grey wolves. The kira user might be done here, if he doesn't approve a bit. "Just take some rest. I'll be next door, if you need something. Anything." Gau fought the urge to give him a comforting pat on the back. Yoite wouldn't appreciate that after all. "I am sure it will be fine, after some sleep," was Yoite's answer before settling further onto the couch. This was the moment were Gau should leave, giving the sick one some privacy.
…
It felt wrong to leave the sick blind ninja all alone inside the darkened apartment. But this was how Yoite would have wanted it. Gau couldn't imagine how scared it must have been for him. Unknowing if it would stay like this, for ever. And yet… Yoite chose this path to become a kira user. Great power comes with great responsibility. And there was no turning back. 'Once the kira is used Ki-energy starts to leak through the cracks and never comes back. That's…erm.. sort of how the boss explained it,' murmured Gau while slowly entering the filthy apartment. The lights were turned on for a quick look around. There was nothing great about what Gau saw an grumbled in disgust. 'Maybe I should clean it a bit before Yukimi comes back? If Yoite starts losing his sight the messy floor will be getting a liability.' That's the least he can do, right? His eyes pointed at the sleeping figure onto the couch. Yoite hasn't woken up yet. He was out like a light. If he wakes up Gau didn't had another chance. So he had to be quick and quiet…
Already made up his mind, Gau silently gathered a broom and trashcans. Slowly but surely the floor started to get more visible. By the time the curly haired was almost finished Yoite started to toss his blanket away from his prone body. He had slept soundly And the moment he squinted his eyes at the brightness of the lights above him Gau knew the ninja had gained a bit of sight back.
"Oh… eh.. sorry, Yoite. I was about to leave the room. After I'll finish up cleaning." Unsure of what to say Gau hurried a bit getting everything out the room. After he was done Yoite was already standing affront of the television to switch it off. Yoite didn't say much, like always. But he was standing a bit more steadily and didn't appear blind. With the broom in hand Gau had to ask. "Eh… How are your eyes, Yoite?" Yoite sneezed but shrugged right after. "I'll be fine," the dark haired ninja said in a matter-of-factly. Hoping the topic would drop instantly. This energy around the sick one was almost vibrant in the air. Yoite started walking away to the desk of Yukimi and rummaged through some papers trying to prove he was okay. The sneaky stubborn bastard. Gau chose to go with this and backed away through the door. Knowing quite well that hanging around will be a risk now.
"The others will be back soon. Please stay home, alright? Yukimi will kill me if you don't." Yoite never promised that, or got away.
…
It was past midnight. Both Yukimi and Raikou had called their job was going to take a bit longer than suspected so Gau had to make sure the Boss was informed while keeping an eye on the sick ninja. Almost convinced that he could take Yoite with him, Gau voted against it right away when he heard Yoite stumble through the hallway, looking for the bathroom. As quickly as Gau could he hurried towards the hunched over person heaving in discomfort while sweating incessantly. "Have to… find… Miharu… This… can't wait… any.. longer…" the poor Yoite whispered feverishly. All was clear now… Yoite did not feel so good. And needed his best friend. Gau understood this as he sometimes missed his Raikou. The thought of someone there was comforting on your worst days. Yoite wanted his best friend. But the kid was busy finding the engetsorin while staying on a low profile.
"I can't take you there, now. But we can try later. Sorry, Yoite. But I think you need to see your doctor first. Things doesn't look fine. I mean… can you even see?" Waving his fingers affront of Yoite's glazed over eyes didn't give him a reaction. "Then… help me to the toilet… please…" The pleading made Gau's stomach turn. He got to his knees and helped Yoite stand up a bit. Together they walked towards the toilet. Yoite didn't felt safe with the curly one so close to him so he pushed him out and closed the door behind.
Gau heard him trying to pee but ended up puking his guts out before flushing. The harsh thud against the door made it look like Yoite had fallen backwards but this wasn't the case. A very pale tall creature stood in the doorframe. Still coughing a bit of blood. It was a horrifying sight. But somehow the sick ninja was able to smile a bit while blinking his deep blue eyes in wonderment. "Ha… Gau… there you are… I can see again. Told you it will be fine." His posture improved a bit. Instantly looking a bit better. As if his fever magically disappeared. The dark haired ninja cleaned his lips with the edge of his black coat. "I would like some more rise soup now, please."
The curly one stood aback by this request… He needed a second to proses what the hell was going on…
Gau's blood then boiled at the tiny hind of a smirk. "Rise soup? And… Fine? You call this fine? I mean look at yourself you are a walking talking zombie. You just puked blood and now you're fine all of the sudden? Jeez… No wonder Yukimi told me to lock all the doors and windows. Freak." Yoite just stood there, listening to the wave of words rolling over the curly one. Not even feeling a bit hurt by those. He just didn't care that much. "I have enough of this, Yoite. The rise soup will have to wait! Do what you'll have to do, for all I care. I need to call the boss, telling the others need more time to finish the job. In the meantime I don't even care what you're going to do." Yoite walked calmly towards Yukimi's place not even trying to go elsewhere. But he enjoyed the banter. These were after all his favorite moments in his rare free time.
Just another day…
