Only Dimitri and Byleth's wedding would have pulled Claude back in this direction, Fodlan or what is now known as The Kingdom of Faerghus.
Claude could think of a more perfect couple. Even thinking back to their academy days, he could see the sparks flying between them then. He had to commended them both that they were such rule followers and didn't give into their whims.
Claude being Claude heard that to be closer to his wife, Dimitri was going to move his castle closer to the Monastery. Claude knew exactly which toes Dimitri had to step on, but he had confirmed already that the contract is about to be finalized. He had to give Dimitri props for knowing and getting what he wanted. Perhaps he was also gleeful that Dimitri is being slightly selfish where Byleth is concerned.
If you can't be selfish with who you love, then who can you be selfish with? Claude wondered.
Claude looked over at Hilda. The way she grown as a person got to him. He knew her brother would take care of their house under Dimitri's rule. He wondered though if she would go with him.
"Are you ever going to tell her how you feel?" Byleth asked from behind him.
Claude jumped and turned to see the professor. "Well, Teach," he said as he smoothed out his embarrassment about someone sneaking up on him and being caught watching Hilda.
Byleth crossed her arms. "Well, what?" she asked. She waited for an answer and refused to back down.
"Your new position doesn't bode well for me, Teach," Claude stated.
Byleth didn't say anything at all, and she just gave him a look telling him she knew he was stalling.
Claude sighed. "Really doesn't bode well for me," he stated.
Byleth still didn't say a word and narrowed her eyes down at him.
Claude sighed and walked over to Hilda. He didn't know if he was doing it for himself or for Byleth to get her out of his hair.
Dimitri walked up behind Byleth to wrap his arms around his bride from behind.
Unlike Claude, Byleth didn't jump and laid her hands over his. She was too in-tuned with Dimitri to do such a thing.
Dimitri laid his head on her shoulder. "You know your students too well," he whispered into her ear.
"He was never my student," Byleth countered. "I only caught it when Hilda transferred into our class."
"You took a chance with him," Dimitri stated.
"He was staring at her," Byleth said shortly, "and he didn't hear me coming up behind him. Does that sound like the Claude you know?"
"No," Dimitri stated as they watched Claude lead Hilda to the dance floor and started to waltz. "But you still know him." He nuzzled her ear and let her go. He offered her his hand. "May I have this dance?"
Byleth turned to him, looked down at his hand, looked up at his face to smile at him. "Always," she said and took his hand gladly.
Dimitri then led her on to the dance floor.
