Tummi opened the door slowly and quietly after taking one last look around him.
He tip-toed inside the room while he closed the door behind him. He quietly walked up to Gruffi's bed as well as one could in the dark. When he was at the bed, he got on his knees and laid one of his hands onto the surface. It took Tummi a moment before he placed his other hand on him, softly shaking him awake.
"Gruffi?" He whispered.
The brown bear groaned and shook his shoulder. Tummi retracted his hand as a response before reaching out again. He tried shaking him awake again, but this time it was firmer.
"Gruffi." He repeated.
This time, Gruffi turned around as he sighed and groaned. It took him a minute or two to properly see the bigger gummi bear. If he was being bugged even after the first time, he might as well know why.
"...What?" Gruffi finally questioned.
"Do you wanna, uh," Tummi scratched the back of his neck, "eat something with me?"
Gruffi raised an eyebrow. "And why did you wake me up this late for that?"
Tummi looked away. "I just wanted a reason to be with you, that's all…"
Gruffi's eyes widened hearing that. Out of everything he could've answered with, like 'I'm afraid of eating alone in the dark' or something similarly dumb, he answered with that and Gruffi didn't expect it in the slightest bit. He sighed, he wasn't going to let Tummi wake him up for nothing. Besides, he didn't want Tummi to feel rejected just because he wanted to be with him, as much as he wouldn't admit it to most people.
Gruffi looked at him, who waited for an answer. Tummi cleared his throat before itching the back of his head.
"I'm- I'm sorry, it was stupid to ask, wasn't it?" He mustered out. "What am I saying, of- of course it was. I- I apologize, Gruffs, I'll- I'll get back to bed."
"Hold on a minute, Tummi. We can do whatever you feel like. Just, no word of this to the others, alright?"
Tummi had an unbelievably huge smile on his face as he nodded. His stomach growled loud enough for the two to hear and for Tummi to feel it all across that area of his body. The blue bear's face became a pinkish color, as much as it wasn't visible to either at that moment. He supposed that his little excuse actually made him feel like eating. Gruffi snickered.
"Guess you do want food." He teased. "Don't worry, I'll see what I can do."
He put his hand in Tummi's and led him out of the room. They went to the kitchen and Tummi sat down while Gruffi looked at what they had. As Tummi waited, he made circles with the tip of his finger. He watched how Gruffi moved; he didn't pay much attention to what he was doing exactly. A little smile formed on his face as he laid on his open hand.
On the other hand, Gruffi kept looking through everything but he didn't find any snacks they could share. What he did find were tons of blueberries and that gave him an idea. Whether or not it was going to turn out well, however, was an entirely different question. He had a feeling he was gonna hate himself at the end of this. As long as he got to see Tummi smile, he didn't care. It took him several minutes but he did it.
He put a couple of plates onto the table, much to Tummi's surprise. It took the bigger bear a moment to register that Gruffi made a couple plates of blueberry pancakes. Not that he was complaining, though, he had a huge smile on his face. They were a little darker than expected, but he started eating the food nonetheless. Gruffi did the same but at a normal speed. The moment the pancake touched his tongue, he felt like spitting it out of his mouth. He didn't do that, but he thought about doing it. He knew he wasn't the best at cooking, but he didn't think the end result would be like this.
Gruffi looked at Tummi, who was still eating the food at the same speed as before. The only difference he noticed was Tummi's nose scrunched up as he ate. It didn't taste great to Tummi either, aside from the blueberry parts of the pancakes, but he didn't stop eating because he didn't want Gruffi to feel bad or angry that he cooked for nothing.
Gruffi felt like pushing his plate his way, but he didn't and he ate whatever he could of the pancakes. He could tell Tummi didn't want to push them away and kept because he didn't want him to be mad. In a way he was irritated, but it wasn't something to get mad over, well not after waking up a few minutes prior. After he ate an entire pancake, he couldn't eat anymore as he put his hand on his mouth. He used his other hand and pushed the plate towards Tummi. Gruffi didn't want to give him the rest, but what else could he do?
Tummi ate that as fast as he did with his own food. Once he was done with that last pancake, Gruffi took care of the plates. When he got back to Tummi, he fell asleep. He crossed his arms and sighed.
"Oh, Tummi…" He whispered to himself.
He grabbed Tummi and dragged him back to his room. It took a while, and he swore he had to take a few breaks, but he eventually got him to the bed. Tummi asked that of him, yet he fell asleep as soon as he was done eating. At least he got what he wanted. Gruffi wasn't too sure if he would be able to fall back to sleep.
But he'd lay in bed by his side until he did.
