A/N Fictober prompt #10. No you didn't miss 9, i haven't written it yet. Had no ideas. Still might come back to it later.

"Do you still like your tea white with one?" Mattie called over her shoulder to Danny, who sat at the kitchen table.

"You remember?"

"I made you enough cups of tea when you lived here," Mattie joked.

"Yep, still the same."

Mattie poured out the two cups and after adding milk and sugar to one, passed Danny his tea.

"Thanks."

She added sugar to her own and turned and looked at Danny. "It's so quiet. After the business of the day it feels funny to be sitting here, just us, in the quiet."

Danny nodded, "Its kinda nice to stop though, If you know what I mean?"

"True." They sipped their tea in silence then Mattie looked at Danny with a grin. "We could go sit in the lounge room and put the wireless on."

Danny thought for a moment. "Well I don't see why we shouldn't. It's not like we're gonna wake anyone up. Lucien and Jean are off on their honeymoon, Charlie's left to go back to Melbourne, The boss is… wherever the boss is." His eyes met hers and they exploded into laughter.

"Oh he's 'getting some air' with Doctor Alice Harvey," Mattie managed between giggles, "I never thought I'd see the day. For either of them!"

Danny followed her down the hallway and once they got to the lounge room he crossed to the radio and switched it on. Turning the dial he found a station playing some upbeat music and adjusted the volume.

After a few minutes of sitting listening to the radio Mattie spoke. "Bit of a sobering thought that Matthew Lawson has gone home with someone and neither of us have." Her voice sounded soft and slightly sad.

"Aw come on Scout, You've got me!"

Mattie rolled her eyes. "Great," she said sarcastically.

"Ouch. That hurt!" Danny clutched his heart theatrically.

"This from the guy who didn't even dance with me at the wedding?"

Danny put his cup down. "Then dance with me now."

"What?"

Danny stood and went over to fiddle with the wireless. Finding a station playing some slower jazz music he turned back to her. "Miss O'Brien, I would be honoured if I could have this dance," He extended a hand to her.

Mattie smiled. "Delighted," she put her cup down and stood, taking his hand.

Danny pulled her close and they swayed together, his arm around her waist.

"You're not a bad mover," Mattie commented in surprise.

Danny smiled, "You're not to shabby yourself."

They danced in silence for a while, gradually getting closer and closer until they were dancing cheek to cheek, their hands intertwined between them. Eyes closed they swayed together until the song ended.

Mattie stepped back. Somehow things had changed between them in those few minutes. They'd both grown up since they'd last seen each other and suddenly she realised she no longer thought of Danny as the annoying little brother she never wanted, but now she saw him as a man. A man who had held her gently and who was now looking at her as if seeing her for the first time.

He looked at her face, their hands still joined between them, "You're beautiful."

"Danny…"

"You really are." Danny brought a gentle hand up to cradle her head.

Mattie's heart was beating so loud she was sure the whole town could hear it. She smiled and closed her eyes as their lips met.
