Phoenix tells Pietro about the events in the book Hawk a few months afterwards. A lot has changed. I think I'll start a series about Phoenix and Pietro and them saving the world once again with the flock. Let me know what you think!
"Are you serious? THE Maximum Ride?" Pietro asks. I brush my long black hair out of my face, laughing along with Pietro. The fire crackles beside us in our little cottage Max and Fang set us up with. "You know," I start, looking down into the flames. "I kind of have the urge to follow in their footsteps." I say. Pietro laughs, thinking it's a joke. Then he notes my nonexistent laugh and stops. "Oh you're serious."
"I have an idea, it's possibly entirely impossible, but so worth it." I say. Pietro's hand comes behind my neck, playing with my hair. "Wherever you will go, I will follow." he says. I am taken aback. I never would expect that from him. "Wings and all?" I ask. Right after my question, his hand falls down my back, tracing my wings with his fingers. I shudder slightly. Then his hand moves in between my wings, scratching in between them. I smile, cozying my head against his. "Why does that feel so good?" I ask myself, laughing a bit. His other hand comes up to my face, tracing along the scar I got a little over a month ago. "What about your family?" I ask.
"Who cares about them. They will want me to marry to carry on their gang legacy and make kids to use for said gang." he says softly. How can he make something so dangerous sound so sexy? I smirk, remembering our first kiss. How different we are now to what we were then. "I have something to tell you," I say. He murmurs against my ear as he goes to kiss my neck, his breath up against my cheek as he slides his mouth over. "I know you know me as Hawk-"
"You also used to have a mohawk, you had tattoos on your face and piercings. Now, look at you. Almost unrecognizable. Down to your long curls-" he says, grazing my hair. "Clear eyebrows" tracing along my forehead. "And piercings. Well, I see one survived," he says, playing with the gem on my left nostril. I laugh, taking his hand. "That was long ago. And my name is no longer Hawk. It never was. I know my old name now, and my memory has also somewhat come back about my childhood." I say.
Pietro sits on his hands, gazing up. "I am on the edge of my seat." he says. I laugh, feeling kind of worried. I hope he won't see me differently. "Phoenix. Phoenix Ride." I say. Pietro smiles, I notice a small lip bite. "I think I like it more than Hawk. It is moreā¦.. you." he says.
I smile, bursting with happiness from this. "Oh, Pietro I am glad. It is growing on me! Truly!" I say. "The nickname Fifi is a littl-"
"I am sorry, what?" he asks. We both laugh together. "Fifi. My aunt Nudge and Total - the talking dog. They both call me that. Gaz and Ig call me Ninja Nix." I say. This makes us both laugh out loud. Then it happens. In a flash he is kissing me right on the mouth. I jump at first, but when he pulls away I don't want him to. I pull him back, arching myself forward. My fingertips gracefully touch his cheeks, his arms wrapping around me. When we pull away, our foreheads are up against each other. Two best friends who have fallen for each other. "Finally." Pietro says. I laugh, nuzzling up against him. "I think the first one was the most memorable though." he says. I pull away laughing and swatting his arm. "It was kind of rough." I say, rolling my eyes. Then he gets closer, licking his bottom lip slightly. "You haven't seen rough. Not yet, Miss Phoenix," he says. We both laugh, pulling one another into a hug. "Smooth." I reply.
Ridley swoops in next to us, the beautiful Hawk stretching her wings. I caress her head. "Let's do it though," Pietro says. I look back over at him as he continues. "Let's go explore this new world."
