Chapter 35, enjoy! (Continuation of Ch 34)

"So I got to thinking last night," Jason started as he straightened his tie in preparation for church. "I think I'm going to make a trip down to Dillon and see my parents. I need to get the ball rolling on this divorce and move on with my life. And besides, I'm sure your parents are tired of me hanging around with all the issues they're having with your sister."

"Gracie sure is a handful," Julie chuckled. She was hoped she didn't act that bad as a teen. "I'm going to miss having you around."

"It's been nice hanging out with you lately, with my injury we didn't get to have as much bonding time in high school," Jason said with a smile.

"Yeah we really didn't ever spend time together in high school," Julie agreed. "I wonder what the rest of our old classmates are up to," Julie thought out loud.

"Who knows," Jason laughed. "Kinda scary to wonder what Tim Riggins has been up to," He stated, laughing even harder.

"So when are you leaving?" Julie asked.

"Probably early next week," Jason answered. "I've got to get things packed and let my parents know."

"Are you driving or flying?"

"Probably driving, it's a lot cheaper," He responded. Julie dod some quick typing in the maps app on her phone.

"Jason, that's a 25 hour drive," Julie gasped.

"Wow, I didn't realize it was that far," He replied. "Well, I won't do it in one day."

"Obviously not," Julie joked. Then a lightbulb went off in her head. "What if I go with you?" she asked. "That's totally inviting myself on your trip, but we could split the drive and that way I could see some old friends. Maybe I could find a new job there that isn't babysitting two annoying children," Julie elaborated.

"I'm fine with it if your parents are okay with it. I would actually enjoy some company on the long drive."

"I'm sure they can't wait until I'm independent again, besides they have enough to worry about with Gracie."

"We better get to church," Julie stated. They both made their way to Jason's truck and drove to their church.

"So what was that about before church?" Lyla asked as she strapped her daughter into her car seat in Buddy's SUV. "Coach Taylor is coming back?"

"It's in the works," Buddy replied. "The boosters want me to convince him to come back and save the team. You know how the season has been going."

"Why haven't I heard about this yet?" Lyla questioned as she climbed in the passenger seat. "We live under the same roof and you haven't mentioned it."

"It's a new development, we just decided to ask him about it yesterday," Buddy answered.

"Grandad are we gonna to eat at Ray's?" Lyla's five year-old son asked from the back seat as they began driving.

"Sure are Will," Buddy responded as he turned down the road that led you to Ray's BBQ. Will, Lyla's son, wore a huge smile as a result of Buddy's response. "We do every Sunday."

Buddy, Layla, and Lyla's two kids all found took a seat at a table in Ray's BBQ which was packed with the after church crowd.

"Do you think Coach Taylor will come back?" Lyla asked after the waitress took their drink order.

"I honestly don't know," Buddy truthfully answered. "I hope he does. Football in Dillon is going downhill real quick. We need to have good coaches around here for the younger generation. Will will be playing elementary pretty soon and we need to get these kids started out with good coaches and a good high school team to watch, and this guy just isn't cutting it."

"Will is only five daddy, he's got a little while," Lyla replied looking to her son who was helping his little sister color a paper with a crayon.

"Yeah, but what about Stevie Riggins? He is just about ten now, in two years he will be playing elementary football. If we don't have good coaches when these kids are young, they won't be good when they are in high school. And watching successful teams makes these younger kids want to be successful."

"You sure do love your football," Lyla stated with a smile. Her dad was persistent and ambitious when it came to Dillon football, he always wanted to best for the team, even when we didn't have a kid on the team.

Hope you enjoyed that! Writing Buddy as a grandpa has been fun so far lol.
