Chapter 41, enjoy!

*Make sure to read Ch 40!*

Buddy plopped down onto his couch and pulled out his cellphone. He scrolled through his contacts before selecting the one he was looking for. He held the phone up to his ear as it rang, waiting for the person on the other end to answer.

"Eric!" Buddy greeted when Coach Taylor finally picked up the phone.

"Yes Buddy," Coach Taylor replied.

"Think anymore about coaches for our team, or if you would want to take on coaching the Panthers again?" Buddy asked, getting right to the point.

"I haven't, I'm sorry Buddy."

"Eric, its getting bad. Today I had a parent approach me telling me his son was wanting to quit. This kid is the best quarterback on the team, but he is benched the whole time because the coach favors his own kids."

"That's terrible Buddy, but I already told you Tami loves her job up here and I don't think I could convince her to move. And Gracie has friends up here and really likes her school."

"Just think about it, would ya?" Then Eric realized something.

"I'll tell you what. I got to visit with Jason Street, he is headed back down to Dillon to visit his parents. I could have him scout out the team, tell me if the coaching situation really as bad as you say it is," Eric decided.

"Trust me Eric, it is bad," Buddy replied. "I sure hope Jason sees that," He mumbled.

When Eric got off the phone, he made his way to the loving room where Jason was working on his computer.

"Jason," Eric started. "When are you and Julie leaving for Dillon again?"

"Tomorrow."

"So today is a Monday, so you'd leave on Tuesday and it would take you about two days to get down there, so you would get there late Wednesday or early Thursday depending on how much you drive a day."

"Yeah," Jason replied curiously.

"So you's be there in time for the football game on Friday," He added, lowering his voice so that Tami, who was in the kitchen, wouldn't overhear.

"Am I missing something?" Jason asked, confused. Eric sat beside Jason and lowered his voice to a whisper.

"They want me to coach at Dillon again, apparently their new coach is ruining the team. Kids are quitting, people are unhappy, you know how it goes. I need you to scout the game and tell me if this coaching problem is as bad as they're telling me it is."

"So are you going to?"

"Well, I can't just up and leave, and Tami has her job here, Gracie has friends here. Verdict is still out, but I need to know if it is really as bad as they're all making it out to be. So think you can scout the game for me?"

"I can," Jason replied.

"Thanks, I appreciate it.

Buddy returned to the patio where his grandson was waiting to return to their game of catch with the football.

"Ready to play again?" Will excitedly asked.

"Yep!" Buddy enthusiastically replied.

"How'd that go? Did you convince him?" Lyla asked.

"Still working on it. He did say that Jason Street would scout the game for him, so maybe Jason will see how bad things are and Taylor will decide to coach for us again."

"What is Jason doing in town?"

"Eric said he stopped by his house on his way down here to it his parents," Buddy answered as he threw a gentle spiral.

"Oh, huh."

This chapter is really short, I'm sorry! I still hope you enjoyed! I leave the 21st for a trip and I only have part of the next chapter written, so this is probably the last update until I get back.
