Chapter 42, enjoy! Finally got inspiration to work on something other than my Heartland fics, lol.
"Julie, are you ready?" Jason asked from the hallway of the Taylor's house. "We need to get on the road if we are going to try to go halfway today.
"Yeah, I'm ready," She announced as she carried her suitcases into the hallway. Together, and with Eric's help, they carried their luggage to Jason's pickup. They placed the bags in the backseat.
"Got everything you need?" Tami asked for the fifth time that day.
"Yes mom," Julie reassured her.
"Ok, you two be careful," She replied giving her daughter a hug. "Let us know when you get there."
"We will, bye mom."
"Bye Mr. and Mrs. Taylor," Jason stated. "Thank you again for letting me stay with you."
"You are welcome any time," Eric told him.
"Bye," They all said one last time before Julie and Jason got in the truck, Jason folding his wheelchair and tucking it in the backseat.
"Well, this is going to be fun," Julie stated once they pulled out of the Taylor's gated community. The radio switched from an ad to an 80s rock song causing Julie to cringe. "If we are riding 25 hours in this vehicle, we are going to have to listen to some better music."
"You are now in control of the radio," He told her, verbally passing control of the music played during the drive to her.
"Let's see," She muttered as she began flipping through the preset stations. "This will be a good one!" She exclaimed, landing on one playing modern pop music.
"Has your dad talked to you any about moving back to Dillon?"
"No, why?"
"I don't think it's my place-"
"Did he say something to you? Are they moving?" Julie began bombarding Jason with questions.
"He just asked me to sit in on the football team, I guess they're having coaching issues," He told her as they turned onto the interstates headed out of Pennsylvania.
"Wow, I just never saw my dad going back to Dillon. He refused the offer to coach the super team because he was still upset about Joe McCoy getting them to fire him. I thought he was still hanging onto that grudge."
"Well, it's been 6 years. JD McCoy has graduated and surely some of the school administration has moved on. He just asked me to let him know what things were like."
"Huh. I mean my mom has said some things about missing Texas, but I didn't think they were considering it."
"I don't think your mom knows they've offered it to him."
"Why do you think that?"
"He's just been super secretive about talking to me about it."
"Why wouldn't he tell her though?" Julie wondered out loud.
"Maybe he wasn't considering taking it."
"Them why would he asked you to sit in on a game?"
"I don't know Julie," He sighed, beginning to get annoyed by her questions. "I guess we'll find out eventually," He added.
"So have you told anyone your coming back?"
"I told my parents."
"You didn't tell your old pal Tim?"
"I haven't yet, no," Jason answered.
"I figured he'd be the first, besides your parents, to know."
"I haven't talked to Tim in quite a while actually. We lost touch when he went to prison. It was all my fault, I just quit calling and writing."
"Well now you get to make up for that lost time," Julie replied, choosing to look on the bright side of things.
"What about you, did you tell anyone you were coming?"
"I didn't. I was hoping maybe Tyra would be around and I could see her," Julie answered making herself comfortable in the front seat. She had her pillow propped against the window with her head leaned on it.
"Are you going to sleep the whole time?" Jason asked.
"Possibly," She replied.
After driving nearly 90 miles, Julie was passed out in the fromt seat and Jason was getting bored as they were stuck in backed up traffic resulting from a crash on the interstate. He grabbed his phone from the cup holder and searched through his contacts, Julie's words replaying in his head. Now you get to make up for that lost time.
Julie and Jason are on a road trip, wonder how that's gonna play out! ;) Sorry for the super long delay in posting, and it only being this wimpy, dialog packed filler chapter. I took a weeklong road trip of my own.
