Chapter 43, enjoy!

Jason selected Tim Riggin's contact in his phone and held t up to his ear as he waited for Tim to answer.

"Jason Street!" Tim exclaimed after answering the phone. "How's it goin'?"

"Not bad Timmy!"

"What's up man? It seems like we haven't talked in forever," Tim replied.

"Yeah, it's been a while and I'm really sorry about that. I was hoping to make up for it now."

"You should come to Dillon sometime and visit!" Jason laughed at the irony.

"I'm actually on my way there now," He told his old friend.

"Now way."

"Yeah, we are on our way right now. We're stuck in traffic, but we're on the interstate headed towards Texas," Jason reported.

"We? Are your bringing the whole family?" Tim's question was like a stab to Jason's heart.

"No, actually it's just Julie Taylor and I," He clarified.

"Julie Taylor?"

"It's a very, very long story. Traffic is lightening up so I should let you go. It was good talking to you, I'll see you tomorrow, hopefully," He told his friend before they said their good byes and hung up.

Another hour passed and they were driving through Washington DC. Jason, knowing Julie would appreciate seeing it, reached over to shake Julie's arm in an attempt to wake her up.

"Are we there?" She groggily asked, creases from her pillow case having left marks on her cheeks.

"No, we are in Washington DC, I thought you'd like to see it."

"We've only gone two and a half hours?"

"Sadly, yes. Only 22 more to go."

"Wow, it's beautiful," She gasped taking in the gorgeous scenery.

"I took the exit off the interstate, so we are headed down town. It will add some time to our trip-"

"But it's worth it," Julie cut him off.

"Yeah," He agreed. "When we get on the other side of DC we can get something quick to eat."

"I could live here," Julie stated, still in awe of the scenery. "Have you ever been here before?"

"Yeah, actually Erin and I came here for a quick little vacation one year."

"Oh Jason... This must've brought up some memories, I'm sorry. You didn't have to do this for me."

"It's fine, really. She betrayed me and that is that. I'm more angry than sad."

"How did your parents take the news?" She asked, being nosey.

"Just the typical 'Oh my gosh Jason, I'm so sorry,'" He answered. "They scheduled an appointment with their lawyer, so pretty soon we'll be divorced and I can move on to someone who won't betray me."

"Do you think that word has spread around town?"

"I don't think my parents would just go around spreading it, but I'm sure when I get there word will travel pretty fast," He answered as he pulled into the McDonald's drive thru. "What about you? Do you think everyone knows about you and Matt?"

"Probably not, he's living in Chicago so there's really no way they would know. But like you said, I'm sure word will spread pretty quick when I show up."

"Sorry, I would offer you something better than McDonald's, but I don't think we have enough time to stop and sit in."

"It's fine, we can eat good when we get to Texas." They good their food, which they ate in the truck, and continued on their journey to their old stomping grounds of Dillon, Texas.

Around 8 pm they arrived in Nashville, Tennessee. They found a Quality Inn to spend the night at. They entered the hotel and approached the front desk to get a room.

"How may I help you?" The man working the front desk asked.

"We need to get a hotel room," Julie told him.

"We have a king open on the second floor, will that work?" He inquired after doing some typing on his computer.

"Actually, we need to two rooms," Julie corrected him.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I just assumed you were together."

"We could do one room, but we need to gave two beds," Jason interjected.

"I have a room with two beds right here on the first floor, will that work?"

"That would be great," Jason answered. They paid for the room and made their way to the room.

"I wonder how many times we will be mistaken for a couple this trip?" Julie laughed.

"I don't know, but did you see the look on that guys face? He was so embarrassed!" Jason laughed back. "Twelve more hours of driving and we will be in Dillon."

Sorry this has been so dialog packed, I just wanted them to have some bonding. I hope you enjoyed!

I thought with it being summer I would have more free time to write, little did I know I would end up going to two 4 day camps in addition to constantly working and a week long trip. Not to mention I got sucked into my two Heartland stories.
