Chapter 46, enjoy!
Tim's house was the definition of a Texas ranch home. It was long with a tall peaked roof. It had a large front porch with sturdy oak pillars and a big dormer above. The exterior was a sandy colored stone. Jason and Julie stood in awe of Tim and Billy's handy work as Tim unlocked the front door.
The three made their way inside the house and Tim showed them to the guest bedrooms. Jason would take one guest bedroom and Julie would take the other. They each did their nightly routine and settled into each of their rooms.
Jason easily fell asleep, exhausted from their trip. Julie, who napped most of the way down, tossed and turned, and it didn't help that she had just encountered her drunken ex. Her mind kept racing back to that last night they spent together. She was so furious at him that she slept on the couch. That night was the night she decided she needed to end things with him.
She did what always seemed to help when she couldn't sleep, she got up and got a glass of water from the kitchen. The only problem, Tim's kitchen was not organized in the way hers was so she rummaged around the cabinets looking for a glass. She was startled when she heard footsteps coming from the master bedroom and Tim appeared in the kitchen.
"Sorry, I was just getting a glass of water," She apologized. "I didn't mean to wake you."
"It's no big deal," He replied. "The cups are in the cabinet to your right."
"Thanks," She responded as she opened the cabinet to her right and grabbed a glass.
"I'm sorry if this is too personal or nosey, but I've gotta ask. Did Matt hurt you?"
"No, he never laid a hand on me. But it got to where I was always afraid he would. He would get drunk and act like he did tonight, or worse, and I had to leave. It wasn't good for me and I was afraid it would only get worse."
"Word is he lost his job and got evicted from his apartment, so he moved down here to be with his grandma."
"I wouldn't know, I haven't talked to him since I left about a month and a half ago. Tim, I never told you thank you for getting me out of there tonight."
"You don't have to think me."
"You are a very selfless and caring man, Tim Riggins."
"Good night Julie," Is all he responded before retuning to his room.
The next morning, they all woke up and git breakfast from the diner in town. Jason's agenda was to talk to Buddy about the football team.
Jason and Buddy met at his restaurant to discuss the problems with the football team. They began their conversation with some small talk, but Jason wanted to get right to the point.
"Okay Buddy, I'm going to watch the game tonight, but I want you to tell me how things are. What do I need to know that I won't see at the game tonight?" He asked.
"We've got boys quitting, good boys. Coach Barnett is favoring his sons over players that are much better, but you will see that on the field tonight. It's not good Jason, but the problem is the coach not the players," Buddy informed him. "And word around town is our best fullback is moving to Westerby to play for them."
"What's the record look like?"
"It's terrible, every game is a blow out, and not in a good way. But the thing is, under the right advisory they could win. I've kept up with Coach Taylor's team up there, and they aren't doing any better. At least here he could have a chance to coach a good team."
"Well, thanks for the input, I'll be at the game tonight."
"Thank you for doing this Jason, this team really needs help with this situation. I think if I get Coach Taylor on board and show the school board that I've got someone line out to replace Barnett, they will fire him."
"I can't promise he will agree though, they are pretty rooted up there in Pennsylviania. Tami really likes her job and Gracie has friends."
"It's worth a shot," Buddy realonded.
"Yeah, I guess you're right. I'll see you at the game tonight."
Hope tou all enjoyed, thanks for reading!
