Chapter 48, enjoy!

"As if this coach ain't bad enough, we've gotta play the number one ranked team in the state," Buddy sighed as he entered the football stadium, Tim, Julie, and Jason trailing behind him. "You better have Coach Taylor on speed dial because it's about to get ugly." They found a seat that was wheelchair accessible for Jason and watched as the game began.

"Tim!" Luke Cafferty's voice shouted from the end of the aisle.

"What's up Luke?" Tim asked.

"Not much, mind if I sit by ya'll?"

"Not at all," Tim replied. Luke slid into the seat next to Tim.

"So," Luke started as he looked to Julie and Jason, who were sitting on the other side of Tim. "Word is you're scouting for Coach Taylor."

"That would be correct," Jason replied.

"Well, let me just tell you it's not a good situation. I got elected onto the school board when I was medically discharged from the army. I've been trying to tell them something needs to change, but some of them are such hard asses they don't listen. Several of them do like Taylor, so if you can get him on board that might help."

"I didn't realize you were on the school board," Jason replied.

"Yeah, after I was discharged from the army I came back to Dillon, Becky and I had already married and she found out she was pregnant and I wanted to make sure our kid had a good school system, so I thought I'd do my part. My dad was on the school board, so it kind of runs in the family I guess."

"Wait... but wouldn't that mean you helped hire this so-called jackass if you were on the school board?" Julie asked.

"That was before I got on."

"Gotcha." They all slowly ended their conversations as they watched the game begin. The first few minutes were ugly, Dillon had a turnover which resulted in the opposing team scoring. The next possession, the same thing happened. Coach Barnett was leaving it up to the quarterback, his son, to call the plays but then got upset when the plays were unsuccessful.

"Damn," Jason muttered as Barnett threw a fit at the receiver when it was his son's mistake.

"See," Buddy stated.

"Yeah. You know, this guy reminds me of McGregor."

"You mean McCrap," Tim corrected.

"I remember having to pick Riggins up from the hospital after that guy overworked you during summer practice," Buddy stated. "But I think Barnett is worse."

"I'd have to agree," Jason replied as Coach Barnett proceeded to scream at his players and throw his headset on the ground. "He definitely favors his sons, and that's not right."

"Especially when they aren't good."

"Hey Daddy," Lyla's sweet voice interrupted their conversation.

"Granddad, I wore my super cool jersey you gave me!" Will exclaimed as he pointed to his blue and yellow Panthers jersey.

"I see that bud!" Buddy replied. "Our row is really full today, we'll all have to scoot down to make room." Everyone in the row, save for Jason, stood and scooted down making room for Lyla and her kids.

"Oh my gosh, Julie!" Lyla exclaimed "I was not expecting to see you! How are you?"

"I'm good, how're you?"

"Good," Lyla answered.

"You're kids are so cute!" Julie complemented as Jason looked to the two young kids that had came with Lyla. It made him miss Noah, the poor kid got thrown into a mess he should have never been in the middle of. He hoped he could remain in contact with Noah, but he was afraid with the fit he threw Erin would never let him.

"Oh, thank you!" The kids played with each other while the adults carried on a conversation having gotten bored by the ass beating the Dillon Panthers were receiving.

"Damn, this is the worst we've gotten beat," Tim stated as he looked to the score board to see the 57-0 score as the last few seconds ran out.

"So, what's the verdict Jason, are we gonna sweet talk Taylor?"

"I'll tell him it is a bad situation and that under the right instruction these boys could be very good."

"Julie, you think your folks will want to move back?"

"I'm not sure, I think they might consider it," Julie replied remembering how much her mom was wanting to raise Gracie in Texas.

"I'll call him in the morning," Jason stated as they all walked out of the stadium. Lyla and her kids followed Jason and Julie back to their truck as Lyla had parked beside them.

"Jason," Lyla stated before lowering her voice. "Your mom told me about everything with Erin and Noah, I'm really sorry. If you need someone to talk to I am always here, busy with my two, but I'll listen."

"Thank you Lyla, that means a lot to me," He replied. "It was good to see you," He added before getting in his truck and returning to Tim's house.

So sorry for such a delay in updating, 4 stories and essay's for my college class are a lot for me to write, not to mention my busy schedule and regular school work. Just bear with me, I've got some good things coming! (And we're almost halfway through!)
