While processing all his emotions of finding out his brother was alive but still in danger, Nate forgot to mention to Sam the most important development that occurred after he thought he lost his brother. On one of his many adventures, he was exploring some caves off the coast of china when he stumbled across a mysterious pool of water. And as it turned out, he was in the wrong place at the right time because the next thing he knew, he was trying to avoid water at all costs.
By the time he thought to mention it, it didn't seem like the right time. They were on their way to Italy to steal the cross and it hadn't seemed that important.
It wasn't until they ended up in Scotland and he was plunging head first into the ocean after narrowly avoiding death by mercenary, that Nate wished he told him sooner.
Sam had just climbed on the plane as Nate was swimming up to it. He could feel the familiar tingling feeling in his legs as they began to fuse together and he knew as soon as Sam looked at him he would know. He reached his hand up as his brother turned to help him. He saw Sam's brows furrow when he first looked at him, probably because he was suddenly without a shirt, and then widen as he pulled him out of the water. The extra weight made it a bit difficult but Sam managed to pull him in the plane just as Sully was taking off.
Nate held his breath as Sam shut the plane door and slowly turned to look at him. His eyes roamed over Nate and landed on his legs-or what was suppose to be his legs. In their place was the long blue tail that he obtained from those caves.
"What the fuck?" were the first words out of Sam's mouth.
"I can explain!" Nate rushed out. He didn't even know where to begin but he needed to get the words out, to try and reassure his brother. He couldn't lose Sam, not again.
"How did this- When did you-" Sam stuttered out, clearly trying to process what the hell he was looking at.
"Hey kid, you might want to start with that explanation before he passes out." Sully spoke from the front seat.
That seemed to snap Sam out of it a bit as he turned to glare at Sully. "I am not gonna pass out- wait did you know about this?"
That got a chuckle out of Sully. "It would be a bit difficult for him to keep it from me considering the amount of times I've had to literally and figuratively pull him out of the water."
Nate couldn't deny it. If it wasn't for Sully he probably wouldn't be here, he would more than likely be in the ground or in a lab and he'd forever be grateful for that.
"I was gonna tell you Sam, I just wanted to wait for the right time"
Sam turned his focus back to Nate and his eyes went straight to his tail again. "Well this seems like the perfect time to explain to me how the fuck this happened? Cause I'm pretty damn sure this didn't happen to you when we were kids."
"No, it didn't," Nate chuckled. "A few years back, I was exploring some caves off the coast of China and I found a pool of water. It had been late and I was trying to find another way out of the cave so I dove in to the pool to get to the opening on the other side. It happened to be a full moon that night and when the moon went over the opening it started to bubble. I had no idea what was going on but I didn't care at that point, I just wanted to get out of there. As it turns out, the pool was magic which I found out around twelve hours later when I went to wash my hands and I grew a tail ten seconds after."
Sam shook his head as he took in the new information. "So let me get this straight. You jumped into a magic pool of water on a full moon and now you're a fish?"
"Yeah, that's the gist of it. I also gained control over water"
He brought his hand to his tail and made a fist. Steam began to billow around him and when it disappeared, he had his legs and clothes back. Sam's eyes widened like they had before as he watched the transformation.
"Again, what the fuck?"
Nate gave a rueful smile before he stretched his legs out and moved to the bench. He still hadn't gotten much of a good reaction out of Sam so he wasn't sure how he was taking it. "I know it's a lot and I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner but I'm still the same as I've always been, I just happen to grow a tail when I get wet."
Sam actually cracked a smile at that but some of Nate's nerves must have shown through because he moved to sit next to him and said, "You'll always be my little brother and this doesn't change that. It's just gonna take some getting used to I guess."
Nate breathed a sigh of relief as he pulled his brother in for a quick hug. "Don't worry, it stops being weird when you remember that far crazier shit exists out there."
Sam smirked as he pulled away, "I guess that's one way to look at it. But because it's you, it almost kinda makes sense."
Nate scrunched his eyebrows in confusion "What do you mean?"
"Well, you do have a knack for getting into crazy situations."
Nate Scoffed. "Look who's talking! We're literally flying around the world to get you out of a crazy situation."
"Hey at least I didn't get myself turned into a fish with magical powers."
"Kids, stop bickering or I'm turning this plane around"
