The world as we know it

Prologue

A light was flickering at the start of a long hall. The others were off. At the end of the hallway was a door. Through the door was a lab. It belonged to a scientist. The lab was a little run down, but not enough that it wasn't livable. A cat was sleeping on the couch off on the right wall in the living room.

"Come here, Judd." A man held out his hands down towards the floor. The cat woke up and jumped off the couch. He ran into the man's arms. Judd meowed.

The man pet his cat. "The next species to live on this world will not make the same mistakes the human race did, Judd. That's why I made this." He put his hand on a pile of ooze that was on the table. There was a small dark-blue-and-yellow-green tentacle sticking out from the top of it. "It may not look like much, but this AI was made to protect the world after the tidal wave comes and kills all of us."

He picked up the ooze and placed it in a telephone. He sealed the back of it back up. "This is to keep it safe from the water." Judd meowed again.

The professor coughed. He had an unknown disease that slowly shuts his body down. He hasn't been able to eat in three days which wasn't helping the process. He knew he was going to die soon. Perhaps it might even happen overnight. He just knew it was going to happen soon, even if he didn't know how soon, along with the tidal wave. Everyone in Sea City was worried about it. It popped up on weather reports, the newspapers, you name it. The professor laid down on the couch.

"Goodnight Judd. I'll see you in the morning." He closed his eyes…
