Disclaimer: I'm still rather new when it comes to writing Voltron: Legendary Defender since many fans had left after the series ended, and while I've heard of it during its run, I didn't have a Netflix account at that time, so yeah. I've officially finished with the entire series...so please don't get too harsh since I'm still new to writing Voltron fanfiction.

Anyway, while I'm working on another Kallura one-shot, this idea just came up to me after I watched a storyboard of what would've been Keith and Allura's journey to a romantic relationship, and I've decided to go with that route despite Allura and Lance being canon (ugh).

I don't own anything Voltron-related. Everything belongs to its original creators, Dreamworks Animation Studios. I'm only writing this story out of pure entertainment and stepping out of my comfort zone.

Not to mention, just to get my creative juices flowing and write something different for a change.

Author's Note: As I've said before, this story is an alternate retelling of that scene in the episode "Best Laid Plans," and through a storyboard, I was looking at, but with my own take on how it might go and the start of a bond between Keith and Allura.

You and I

A Voltron: Legendary Defender Fanfic

"Okay. The cloaking device is ready to go," Pidge said, after placing the metal object in the side of her green lion and closing it. Standing next to her, Keith only gave her a small smile, who in turn glanced up and beamed at the sight of him. Very rarely he'd smile, but this is one of the few occasions he ever did. Might as well as make the most of it. Before he could say anything else, Keith and Pidge heard the sound of footsteps entering in the hangers, and Keith didn't dare look up at the stranger who had entered.

Princess Allura cleared her throat, not wanting to startle them to the point where they would fall off their ladders and hurt themselves. She was nervous, yes, but had thought over her words carefully after they had returned from getting the teludav from the Olkari. "Pidge, may I have a moment with Keith, please?" she asked, clasping her hands together, and glancing away from the Black and Green paladins respectively.

Sensing the tension between the two of them, Pidge glanced up and darted her eyes back and forth between them, blinking them rapidly. Whatever she had just imagined with Keith and Allura quickly evaporated from her mind.

For certain, they both need closure to everything that had happened, especially allowing healing to enter their lives.

"Okay," was all she said as she casually placed her hands in her pockets and stepped out of the room, giving the teenagers privacy.

As soon as she left, Allura felt butterflies in her stomach, her icy blue eyes looking downcasted, while she could've sworn that Keith's eyes looked directly at her before moving away. Finally, what felt like ages, Allura boldly glanced up at the Red Paladin, her fears and worries replaced with confidence and courage that she realized she didn't know that she was having.

"I'm sorry. For too long, I've been blinded by grief and clouded by hatred that I can't think clearly, but...that's not an excuse for how I had treated you. When I found out that you were Galra, I didn't know what to think or who to believe. My judgment didn't help either the moment I learned that the Blade of Mamora is fighting alongside us to end this war," Allura admitted, her blue eyes sparkling with sincerity as she gripped her hands closer to her heart, waiting for his response.

Keith, however, didn't hold a grudge for why she had given him the cold shoulder. After his talk with Hunk in the Yellow Lion, Keith started to understand her hatred towards the Galra Empire. Zarkon was once an ally and close friend of her father, King Alfor, who had betrayed him just for being obsessed with quintessence.

Keith merely smiled, a small one, nevertheless, but it was still a smile. He glanced up bashfully, as he too thought of what to say. "It's okay," he replied with a chuckle escaping his grasp. His body tensed when Allura rushed towards him, wrapping her arms around him tightly, catching the young man off guard, but he too embraced his arms around her.

Without thinking, the princess only hugged him more, burying her face into his neck, wishing that this moment didn't end between them. "Please come back to us," she whispered, feeling her voice crack, but she managed to remain strong. If she released him now, he would disappear from her forever.

"I will," Keith vowed, not wanting to end the hug as his eyebrows furrowed in determination when he said those words.

There was one thing for certain. Keith Kogane was determined to protect the woman he had grown to love, and ever since she had been captured by Emperor Zarkon, Keith wanted nothing more than to defeat him and put an end to his reign.

And that was that.
