Chapter One- The Four Boys and Their Bond!
One day on the outskirts of a small hunting village called Springvale which is located in the forest west of the city of freedom known as Monstadt, a single boar was stood by a small stream of water with it's head in the water drinking happily.
Suddenly an arrow flew towards the boar and buried its head in the ground next to the it, startling the creature, it raised its head from the stream and ran in the opposite direction from where the arrow had come. A moment later a boy jumped from a nearby tree, he walked over to the stream, knelt down, and retrieved his arrow from the ground with a disappointed sigh.
The boy who wore a brown shirt with stiches across the sleeves with a pair of grey trousers and grey shoes looked toward the direction the boar had fled and sighed again "It's all up to them now" The boy said with an irritated look on his face before he turned towards the nearby cliff and begun walking towards it.
Meanwhile the boar was heading towards a clearing to escape the area of the hunting town Springvale and head into the open wilderness...if it was able to reach the clearing and leave the hunting village behind it would be safe from those who were chasing it…or so it thought.
Suddenly a boy jumped down from a nearby high ledge and pointed a weapon at the oncoming creature. The boy had black spiked up and pointed hair, he wore a black shirt, grey trousers and black shoes and the weapon in his hands was a long 14 inch spear with a grey coloured spear head and a navy blue handle. He stood and waited in a hunting stance while the boar came rushing towards him…aiming to take him out with its massive body size and the force from it running so fast…little did the boar know that it wouldn't end well for him…
Suddenly Luke rushed towards the boar and thrusted his spear towards the creature, with a squeal and cry of pain the boar fell to the floor dead as the spear ripped open the underside of its stomach and damaged some internal organs as it was pushed further inside before the boy retrieved his spear and used some leaves, he had collected to clean the animal's blood from the spear head.
The boy looked at the boar with a lonely, saddened look in his eyes "I'm sorry poor animal, if only my idiot of a friend had hit his mark before you wouldn't have had to suffer so much"
Suddenly two other boys dropped down from the ledge, walked towards the black haired boy, and downed boar. One boy had dark brown hair and wore a dark blue short sleeved shirt, white trousers and brown shoes, the other boy had red short, spiked hair, and wore a white t-shirt, black trousers with grey belt strapped to it which a sword was attached to inside it's scabbard and black shoes.
The boy with brown hair sighed in a joking and teasing way "Oh Luke you had to overboard didn't you…our families won't be very happy about this" The brown haired boy joked with a gentle chuckle.
The boy named Luke scowled angrily "Shut up Michael…if Lewis hadn't have missed his shot, then the boar wouldn't have needed to be gouged like that…" Luke barked in response in annoyance, while Michael chuckled at his response Luke placed his spear into the diamond shaped holder strapped to his back.
"Where is Lewis anyway? He didn't just go home when he missed did, he?" The redhaired boy asked with a curious tone in his voice.
Luke scowled in response "Who knows but I'll swing for him if he misses the shot next time, we almost lost our food for the night because of him"
Michael turned to the red haired boy with a sarcastic look on his face "Oh I don't know about that…what do you think Jake? He's basically saying us two including himself couldn't kill a single boar" Michael scoffed in a joking manner.
The boy named Jake chuckled and gripped his scabbard which held his sheathed sword "Oh I don't know about that Michael, I think we could have captured it without Lewis and even without Luke, in fact I think we can do anything together!" I replied with a friendly grin plastered on my face.
Both Luke and Michael stopped arguing with each other once I spoke, they both stared at me momentarily before Michael chuckled "You always look on the bright side, don't you?"
I grinned sheepishly and rubbed the back of my head gently with the palm of my hand "Yeah I suppose I do sometimes Michael but it's hard for me not to when I have the best friends to work with, we have great teamwork so we can hunt any animal in this town's vicinity" I replied with an enthusiastic grin.
Michael and Luke chuckle and snicker at my cheerful remark, the bow using boy named Lewis run towards us with a beaming grin on his face "Hey guys I see you caught the boar great news!" Lewis called out while he ran towards us.
A moment later once he reached us Luke scowled "Oh yeah! Well if you hadn't missed your shot, we could have caught it much easier and I wouldn't have had to rip the poor things stomach open!" Luke barked in his usual annoyed tone whenever Lewis or one of us missed our mark.
Lewis was silent for a few seconds before he burst into laughter "Hey come on what's the problem Luke? You caught the boar and it's going to be eaten anyway so why does it matter how we kill it?" Lewis replied with a cheeky chuckle.
Luke snarled and swung for Lewis with his fists which Lewis easily managed to avoid while chuckling and laughing teasingly…Lewis always enjoyed annoying and aggravating Luke more than the rest of us for some reason.
While those two were busy fooling around Michael and I cleaned the blood off the boars fur and with both hands picked the creature off the ground and hoisted it over our backs and rested it on our shoulder while supporting it with our hands and both the front and the back end. I waited until we were both settled and then I whistled towards Lewis and Luke who were still aggravating and teasing each other, they both stopped and turned to face me.
"If you two are quite done, can you give us a hand carrying this back to the village?" I questioned as I patted the boars head situated above my head resting on my shoulders.
Luke walked towards us with a less menacing and aggravated stare plastered on his face "I don't mind helping naturally but it really should be Lewis doing the carrying Jake he's the one who missed his shot, most likely on purpose" Luke replied with another sharp quick glare at Lewis who pretended to be offended and scared of the formers fierce glare.
I chuckled shortly before I faced Luke again with the usual optimistic smile on my face "While I don't disagree with you that Lewis most likely missed his shot on purpose Luke and yes, he should be doing the heavy lifting, you two bickering about who should be doing what doesn't solve our problem does it?" I responded with a friendly smile.
Luke shook his head while he sighed loudly "Fine I guess your right boss…fine I'll support your side and he can support Michael's side" Luke said in his usual stern sounding voice while he walked towards me and took up position at the rear of my side, meanwhile Lewis took up the rear position of Michael's side and all four of us walked back towards the centre of our village to give everyone else who was starving their much awaited food.
*15 Minutes Later*
We eventually arrived back at the house of the hunter's of Springvale, his name was Draff, he was stood outside the door to his house with a fire ready and waiting with a long and thick piece of wood placed over the fire for the boar to be placed on to begin roasting the animal.
He scowled in an annoyed manner when we approached his house. He stood in front of us with crossed arms and stood in a serious manner "Your fifteen minutes late!" Draff barked slightly angry and annoyed "What took so long?"
I grinned sheepishly "Well you see-" I began but was interrupted by of all people…Luke who was still slightly angry with Lewis for missing his shot.
"It was Lewis sir, he missed his shot almost certainly on purpose which made the boar get startled and run away, luckily it ran off towards our direction so I was able to finish it off with my spear" Luke answered with a tired and annoyed expression on his face.
Lewis dropped his lower end of the boar in protest "That's simply not true! Why would I miss my shot anyway Luke?" Lewis exclaimed in response with a slight hint of annoyance in his voice after having delt with Luke saying similar stuff all the way home.
Luke grunted in annoyance "Well I don't know why…but the fact is I know you did because you can easily hit a target that far away" Luke retorted before he grabbed his end of the boar as we all continued into Draff's house to place the boar on the table.
Draff entered his house and inspected the boar, a few seconds later he turned to us and grinned "Despite the open stomach you kids have done great as usual!" Draff said with a congratulatory smile on his face.
We all shared a happy and friendly look among ourselves before Draff pats my head "Why don't you guys go get your families and come round to mine in thirty minutes for a feast to mark tonight as a celebratory night before tomorrow" Draff said with an admiring smile on his face.
We all nodded our heads and ran to our houses which were located down the stairs and over the road from Draff's home in order to alert our families about the impending feast before tomorrow dawned.
*My House, August 15th, 3:00pm*
I reached my house within five minutes of leaving Draff's house. I watched as Michael entered his house just next door, I watched as Lewis entered his house two door down and finally as Luke entered his house three doors up and across from me. Finally after a quick breath, I opened my door and entered my house.
I entered my house, I saw my mother cleaning the wooden table and chairs, she is 37 years old, had red long flowing hair and head green blue eyes. I walked further into the house and saw my father cleaning his sword, spear and bow and arrows, my father was a hunter and also part of the defence team for the small hunting village Springvale, he had short and spiked black hair and had black eyes.
I walked towards my mother who had her back to me while cleaning, I thought about how much I would miss them after today…
"Hey mum I'm home and I've got some good news" I said with a happy smile.
My mum turned around and instantly hugged me tightly "Hello my son, so I take it hunting the boar went, okay?" Mum asked with the usual concerned look on her face.
I grinned cheerfully "Of course it did mum, everything is ready for the big feast tonight if you and dad are almost ready?" I replied with a slight tilt of the head while I tried to look for one other person inside the house.
Mum smiled warmly "Thank you dear I really appreciate all your hard work for tonight…oh and if your looking for Ichikaku she's upstairs"
I smiled, thanked my mum, and headed upstairs to my little sister's bedroom. I reached my little sister Ichikaku's bedroom, I took a deep breath and opened it "Hey little sis I'm back if you still want to come to the meal tonight your more than welcome too" I said with a happy smile and a cheerful sound in my voice.
My little sister was laid on her bed reading one of her books when I entered the room, she was 6 years old, she had short brown hair in pigtails, she had green eyes and wore a light pink dress, she put the book down the second she saw me, ran towards me, and hugged me tightly until I felt like I was going to burst.
"Hey big brother I missed you so much!" Ichikaku squealed happily as she rested her head on my stomach "Will you read a story to me before I go to bed before tomorrow?" She asked with a hint of sadness in her voice which she tried her best to hide for my sake.
I smiled faintly and patted her head gently as I hugged her tightly "Of course I will little sister don't worry about it" I replied with a sad smile placed upon my lips before I kissed the top of her head which caused her to look up at me.
Ichikaku tried to hold back tears "Thank you big brother…I love you…" Ichikaku said with a sad sounding voice once again.
I kissed her head again gently and hugged her tightly "I love you too little sis and never forget that!" I replied while I squeezed her tightly, after a moment of silence I released her and smiled "Now why don't we get ready for the meal it starts in four hours" I added with a happy and warm smile on my face.
Ichikaku smiled happily back as she jumped up and down excitedly "Okay big brother can you help me get ready?" She asked with a cheerful smile on her face which warmed my heart.
I smiled widely "Of course I can, then we can help mummy and daddy get ready too" I replied with a warming grin which my sister always loved to see. My sister was ecstatic and we spent the last few hours before the party getting ready and making each other smile for the last night for a while to come.
*4 Hours Later, 7:00pm, Draff's House*
I arrived at Draff's house with my family. I looked around and spotted my three friends stood next to a nearby tree talking together while their families spoke with Draff and looked at the food put out for tonight's meal.
As if she sensed my intentions my mother smiled sweetly at me "Go on darling go spend time with your friends for now, the gathering doesn't start till 10 or 11 anyway" Mum said with a sincere smile.
I grinned thankfully and ran towards my friends. I spotted Lewis on the lowest branch of the tree while Luke and Michael were both leaned up against it chatting away and laughing…presumably either making jokes aimed at Lewis for his missed shot earlier or about my late arrival.
"Well well well here he is…took you long enough" Luke said with a sarcastic smirk and playful wink.
I smirked in response to Luke's taunt…we'd been friends ever since I was 6, and I am now 17 so over the last ten years I've grown used to the way he taunts me and tries to irritate me into picking a fight with him…this night was obviously no acceptation it seems…
I clutched my scabbard with one hand and using me other, I pulled my sword from within it and walked towards the nearest training dummy Draff must have set up earlier on during the day. My sword had a 9 inch silver blade with a light blue handle. I instantly went to work and started attacking the training dummies, I cut them half and then into thirds with strong and firm swings of my sword aiming to get Luke to ease off for the rest of the night.
Luke chuckled and walked towards the set of training dummies on the other side of the tree, he pulled his spear out from it's carrier and started attacking them with precision and accuracy.
After about three minutes of this I looked around and noticed there was no more training dummies for me to attack so I put my sword back into it's scabbard and turned to face the tree where I saw Michael with his hand around the hilt of his sword which was strapped to his back similar to how Luke's spear was attached to his back. Michael pulled his sword out and held it with both hands, Michael's sword was quite big and heavy, it was a type of sword known as a claymore and its specialty was in big and heavy swings in comparison to the sword, I use which is used for smaller and lighter attacks. Michael's claymore had a 7 inch long, black, and grey coloured blade with two thin grey stripes down the right hand side of the blade. He then begun to swing it repeatedly in the air using all of his strength, I along with Luke and Lewis knew what he was doing so we all left him while I moped up the pieces of the training dummies I destroyed and put them in pile to one side for someone to remove tomorrow morning.
After a few minutes of nothing but silence besides the sounds of Michael grunting as he continued to swing his heavy claymore blade, Lewis turned his attention towards a row of small, wooden circular bullseye targets lined across the stone wall behind the tree where he was perched upon, he reached for his back and unhooked his bow from its harness and swung it round in front of his face and pulled an arrow from the small cylinder carrier strapped to his right side. His bow was brown all over with darker brown grip handles at the ends of the bow and one in the centre, he raised his arms, pulled back the string of the bow and waited…after a few seconds he fired the arrow, the arrow flew through the air and imbedded itself in the centre of the first bullseye target. Lewis smiled confidently before he pulled three arrows from the holder at once, put them on the string, pulled it back…and fired, all three of the struck different parts of the next bullseye along, he continued to fire arrows until he was out of arrows.
After a few moments he stopped firing, he looked at all the bullseye targets lined up in single file along the wall, they all had arrows imbedded in them, he smiled confidently before he turned to look at us three on the ground below him when he was struck in the face by a small rock. He fell from the tree with a quick startled cry and landed in the bush just below the tree. He got to his feet a few seconds later with a slight bruise on his forehead where the rock hit and look of annoyance and irritation as he looked for one who had thrown the rock…already having an idea of who it would be.
He spotted Luke leaned against the tree with a gleaming smirk on his face, Lewis marched over to him and gripped his shirt in a half fake attempt to be angry, but he was also a little annoyed with him "Hey asshole what was that for huh? I could have gotten seriously hurt!" Lewis growled with a slight hint of anger in his voice.
Luke snorted and rolled his eyes in response which annoyed Lewis even more. Before Lewis could respond he spoke up "Oh shut up you little wimp…if that would have seriously injured you I wouldn't have done it, besides if that did injure you badly you wouldn't be much of a hunter" Luke replied with a fake laugh and another snort followed by a faint chuckle.
Lewis became more angered and tightened the grip on Luke's shirt "What does that mean huh!" Lewis barked even more angry now.
Before things could escalate further Michael placed his hand calmy on Lewis's hand, Lewis turned to look at Michael who had a face of concern "Relax Lewis, what Luke meant by that was if you got injured so easily you wouldn't be in good enough shape to be the type of hunter you are now…he was complimenting you" Michael said with honesty in his voice.
After hearing Michael's words Lewis relaxed and turned his attention to Luke who smirked and raised his hands and showed his palms in a sign of peace. Lewis grunted and let go and walked towards the bush to retrieve his bow.
A while after we were all sat and lying on the grass looking up at the evening time sky when the sky turned a red colour. Suddenly Lewis who was sat to the left to of me stood up and walked over to Luke who was lying on the lowest branch of the tree, Luke looked up at him and smirked playfully "Want another round Lewis?" Luke chuckled playfully already knowing the answer.
"Why did you throw the rock at me Luke?" Lewis asked quietly and calmly "You obviously had a reason so what was it" He added.
Luke closed his eyes and after a few seconds smirked "So your still going on about that huh, but then I know your not the type to let stuff go without a reason…fine I'll tell you, I did it because it's so obvious now that you missed your shot at the boar on purpose" Luke replied with a grin on his face while his eyes were still closed.
Lewis looked stunned briefly before he looked at Luke with a fierce and determined stare "Oh really? What makes you so sure I missed my shot on purpose?" Lewis replied with curiosity in his voice.
Luke smirked and winked playfully "Because how could you hit all those targets flawlessly but miss a single boar? Your too skilled of an archer to miss that shot genuinely" Luke replied with a serious look on his face. Lewis stood there stunned at Luke's response.
I walked over to Luke and Lewis, they turned to look at me when they heard my footsteps stopped. I smiled warmly "I'm glad that's cleared up guys…do you remember the promise we made five years ago?" I asked already knowing the answer.
Luke smirked, Lewis smiled and Michael chuckled in response to my question. "Of course we do you idiot" Luke chuckled in response.
Lewis grinned happily and got all excited "Of course we do boss, how could we not?"
I smiled warmly at my three closest friends who I've spent all my life within this small hunting village…before tomorrow when we will leave the village and people, we've known all our lives and go out adventuring into the greater world of Teyvat.
