Introduction/background information: Hello everyone, this is based in high school/going into college within the next year or two. This is also going to be a kind of intense story so trigger warning for these subjects: CHILD ABUSE, DEPRESSION, SUICIDAL THOUGHTS AND ATTEMPTS. This is also going to be a bit of a mix of both third person and first person perspectives. The third person will be more of beca's thinking and for backstory for characters, sorry if that gets confusing. Hope you like the story and leave feedback or suggestions in the comments!

Chapter 1: Beca

Beca thought to herself as she was walking into her junior year of high school, 'only 360 days'. Everyone around her was so excited to go to college and start a new life in a new environment and meet new people. She wasn't exactly excited but she wasn't upset about leaving high school either. Her freshman year was one of the hardest until she met Chloe Beale the senior who took her under her wing and showed her that life could be better after all. She was diagnosed with depression and a general anxiety disorder at the age of 13 and has been in therapy ever since. Beca felt as though this year could be a good one considering she was taking a tech class for music that would take 2 class periods of her day. Music helped her escape reality and feel good instead of the normal sad, empty and alone feeling. School has always been a bit of a toss up for her emotionally. In one way she loved some of her teachers and felt safe with them and she liked being able to be away from home. It's not that she doesn't feel safe at home, she just doesn't like it there. Her father married the wicked witch of the west when she was 12. Her name was Victoria.

Beca always got shivers down her spine when things would remind her of Victoria and it would always send her into her head and she would see and hear things over and over in her mind until someone would snap her out of it unknowingly. Her mother would tell her that her step mother would say things and bully her because she was jealous of Beca. 'What would she be jealous of' she thought. She would call her horrible names and nit pick at everything and anything she did. Eventually her father got a job that required him to be out of town on some weekends and Beca would be left alone with Victoria. At first it was the simple things that would set Victoria off. If Beca went into the kitchen to get snacks she would get comments from Victoria like, "are you sure you should eat that? You're already looking a bit pudgy". That's when she stopped eating when she was at home with Victoria, and she barely ate during meal times because it felt as though she was being judged with every bite she took. 'don't look up from your plate, don't talk too loudly, don't talk at all if you want to get through this at all' she thought to herself. Only after my dad had stayed in the business for 6 months did she start to get physical. If she didn't clean the dishes right when she was asked she would get back handed across the face, if she didn't get up before 7am she would be awoken with a kick to the side, knocking the wind out of her. She didn't know why she didn't tell anyone this was happening, when it began she was only 12 years old and hadn't ever been exposed to anything like this and she barely ever heard of this happening to other people. So she kept it to herself thinking that if she told anyone they wouldn't believe her. It became a routine until Victoria hurt her so bad she had to be brought to the hospital when she was 14. Broken wrist, and a punctured lung from a broken rib. The police came into her room and asked what happened. That's when she told them she fell down a flight of stairs. Victoria harshly whispered into her ear on the way to the hospital earlier, "tell anyone what happened and you'll regret it". She was scared. She had broken down one night in her room and her dad heard her, he came into the room and she told him everything. Next thing she knew Victoria was gone in a matter of 2 days.

Beca was to begin high school only months after Victoria had been removed from her life forever hopefully. During her freshman year she was quiet and reserved and one red head took notice of that. Beca saw her in the lunch room one day on accident, she looked up from her usual lunch of a sandwich and carrot sticks and locked eyes with the bluest eyes and the reddest hair. She immediately blushed and looked straight back down to her food, but she couldn't help herself and stole one quick glance back up. She saw that the girl was still looking at her, but the girl was smiling at her. the next morning she was walking to school when suddenly a girl bumped into her side. She winced from the familiar feeling of being hit in the side. When she looked over it wasn't Victoria looking at her, it was the red head. That's when the girl introduced herself, "sorry about running into you like that! I'm Chloe, Chloe Beale".
