I had a Nightmare
A Powerpuff Girls Fanfic by: Richard G. Eubanks (A short from the What Felt Like Forever After Series)
(A/N: This is just a short involving Bunny; who wakes up and tells her father (Matter) about this dream she had; while Matter learns more about how humans work. This is also my way of saying 'sorry for not uploading in a while)
Bunny was sleeping soundly in her bed; her scarf was hanging over the side of her bed; and she had her scrunchie removed, so her hair looked like squid tentacles. Her father, Matter, was reading through a book of human history; trying not to wake her daughter as she slept. He looked over to her; and caught a glimpse of her shivering. He used his magic to pull the second blanket over her, making sure not to cover up her face. She pulled both blankets closer to her and smiled. Matter smiled as well; although you can barely tell because he has no facial features other than a forehead symbol and eyes. "I wonder what humans do while they sleep?" He asked himself. He opened the computer on the desk and typed in 'what do humans do when they sleep?'. The results he got nearly scared him. He read the first result of info to himself. "Body temperature decreases, all eye movement stops, heart rate and muscles relax, brain waves spike and then slow down? Hm... very interesting." He then noticed something related to the subject. He typed: 'define dream'. His results popped up, and he read the first line. "A series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a person's mind during sleep..." He was amused by this. "Huh. Well then... I wonder what my little girl is 'dreaming' about right now..."
*Enter Bunny's dream*
(A/N: Dream text will be italicized) Bunny was hopping around in an open field; filled with flowers and butterflies, covered by the sun, and best of all, she was with her sisters. They were all holding 'hands' as they lay on the ground. "I love you girls. I'm glad I'm one of you." Bunny said to them.
"We love you too Bunny" They all said back to her. "So? Enjoying your dream so far?" Blossom asked.
"Yeah. It's what I pictured all four of us could be doing one day." Bunny explained.
"Living in a peaceful place?" Bubbles asked. Bunny nodded.
"Not having to worry about anyone getting hurt?" Buttercup asked. Bunny nodded again.
*In distorted tone* "Losing your father?" Blossom asked.
"Of- wait what?" Bunny got up and noticed the girls were staring lifelessly into her eyes.
"He won't live forever... you know that right?" The girls all asked in unison with distorted voices.
"H-He w-w-won't?" Bunny was started to get scared.
The others nodded as their faces started to melt. Their bodies as well; they had the creepiest facial expression on that made them look like amalgamations. They each raised their gooey mess of an arm, and slowly inched towards Bunny. "No... He WoN't... If YoU sUcCeEd In DeFeAtInG HIM... MaTtEr WiLl CeAsE tO eXiSt." Bubbles said in a suddenly demonic tone.
"This dream has really gotten out of hand..." Bunny said.
"YoU hAvEn'T fIgUrEd It OuT yEt?" Buttercup asked.
"Figured what out?" Bunny asked.
All three girls completely melted and shifted together; forming a figure in the shape of HIM. "T#!$HIS &*$#!(IS AL!#*! (L B&* U&!(#T A N #I% !(^*$RE. AN&*# D# Y#O$U 34'#!RE #NE&*$#( VER W&*( *AKI #!*(&$NG U##!P$." The figure said in the most inaudible voice. It then lashed its watery liquid-like claws at Bunny-.
*Exit the dream*
-And she woke up; screaming. Matter flew over to her as soon as she was heard. "My daughter... are you alright? What caused you to shriek like that?" Matter asked; feeling ten tons of worry for her.
"I... I..." But she was too scared at the moment.
"C'mon you can tell me. Besides if you don't, I can't help you." Bunny then reached over to Matter, and he held her arm lightly. "What happened Deary?" He asked.
"I had a nightmare..." She finally said.
"What is a... nightmare?" Matter asked. He received no answer; for she was crying. "Hey don't be too scared... whatever you just experienced was most likely an illusion your mind made to toy with you." He explained. He then brought her plush rabbit friend over (Bunbun) and she held it tightly
"I don't think I want to sleep tonight. If I do; the nightmare may come back..." Bunny said.
"I won't allow that. I'm not saying this because of my lack of human knowledge however; I'm saying that because I'm going to do a little something." Matter then held his hand over Bunny's head. "I was researching on the internet what a 'dream' is and how 'sleeping' works. I then taught myself the spell of bringing dreams to a person as they sleep. You shouldn't have to worry about it now my Deary." Matter explained.
She sniffed. "Thanks dad. I'll... try to go back to sleep now..." She then turned over; facing the wall.
Matter spent a few seconds looking at her, then flew back over to his computer; and typed 'define nightmare'. He didn't like it one bit "A frightening or unpleasant dream? Oh dear..." He kept looking through; and found something else related to the 'matter'. "Common in children under ten... yadda, yadda; regular stage of the development process, well that's good to know at least. *Sighs* I'm worried for her, I know I shouldn't be worried too much; but she's a growing child. She's ten, human, and actually requires sustenance to live. Me? I'm probably four-hundred and twenty years old for all I know. Age is limitless for me, but not my life. Although my life source doesn't actually rely on the Heart of Darkness, I've been trying to become more fixated on all that is good. *Sighs* I just want what's right for her..." Matter then hovers back over to his daughter; trying to get a good look at her face for any signs of horror. He was glad to see she was smiling again. "I won't stop until she's as safe as safe can be; I would surely love to just destroy the Heart where it sleeps." Matter said to himself. *View zooms out of the building until it's fully visible.* "I would surely love to..."
