A/N: This is set right after the Chicago PD crossover episode where they catch the arsonist that killed Shay.

He knew he would find her here.

He stood back for a minute just watching her looking out at the water, the wind softly blowing through her hair. He knew that when she had disappeared from Molly's, this is where she would be, Shay's bridge.

They had all been at Molly's, celebrating the fact that Gish, or whatever the hell his name was, would never be able to hurt anyone ever again. Everyone was drinking, laughing and enjoying the fact that this part of the nightmare was finally over. But he could tell that Gabby was putting up a brave front, insisting that she was fine when it was clear that she was still shaken up by everything that went down.

He walked up behind her and gently put his hand on her shoulder. She startled at his touch but visibly relaxed and let out a shaky breath when she realized it was him.

"What are you doing here Kelly?"

"I just wanted to make sure you were okay."

"I'm fi..."

"Don't bother with the whole 'I'm fine' bit because I know you're not. I can see it in your eyes."

She looked away and shook her head. "Okay, so maybe I'm not fine."

They stood in silence for a little while as he waited for her to continue.

"I can't stop seeing his face you know", she started softly. "Hearing his voice saying how he wanted to watch me burn, smelling the gasoline…" she shuddered at the thought of how close she had come to being just another one of his victims.

Kelly's jaw tightened at the thought of what that maniac had done. "He's gone Gabby. Straight back to hell where he belongs." He pulled her into a soft hug trying to reassure her the best way he knew how.

She pulled away after a few moments and turned back to look at the water.

"I really thought that once we got Gish, that everything would be okay." She looked back at him with tears shining in her eyes. "But I don't feel any better. I mean I'm glad that Megan found some peace and everyone else is relieved and happy, but Shay's still gone, and it still hurts, and I don't know what to do." A tear escaped her eye and she quickly wiped it away, unwilling to let him see her being this vulnerable.

He took her hand in his and gave it a small squeeze. She looked up at him and could see the same pain she felt reflected in his eyes.

"You know some days I wonder if the ache will ever go away." He sighed, saying out loud what had been gnawing at him for months. Shay was his best friend, the one he could always count on, the one who was always there when he needed her. Except now she wasn't, and she never would be.

"Do you have any idea how many times I grab my phone to call or text her every day?" he continued. "Then I realize that she's not here anymore and it's a gut punch every time." His words are strangled, and she can see the tears swimming in his eyes.

She put her arm around him, gently running her hand up and down his back, offering him the comfort they needed. She rested her head against his shoulder and let the tears she'd been holding back for so long flow freely. She didn't need to keep her guard up anymore. Not with him. He was probably one of the only people in the world right now who understood exactly what she was feeling. Shay was such an important part of both their lives and without her, it felt like they were floundering.

"So, what do we do now?" she asked with a little sniffle as she started wiping her tears away.

He pulled her in closer and placed a gentle kiss on the top of her head. "We do exactly what you said at Shay's ceremony. We do everything we can to make Shay proud every time we go out. We lean on each other and maybe one day it won't hurt so much anymore."

She nodded slowly in agreement. She shivered slightly as the wind started to pick up around them.

"Come on. It's getting cold. We should probably head home."

"Not yet. I want to stay here just a little longer."

He wrapped his arms around her a little tighter, "we can stay as long as you need."
