Langa wanted to stay in this moment forever.

His boyfriend in his arms, sleeping soundly while a movie played in the background. The fairy lights strung up around them shone against Reki's face making him look more peaceful and adorable. The day they had was a mere memory now. One that Langa would treasure for years to come.

A few hours ago…

School was out and Langa couldn't be more excited. Today was Friday and he and Reki had bought tickets for the carnival that was in town. They had planned it all out weeks ago. After the carnival, Reki would stay over at Langa's place and they'd have a movie night. The thought made Langa smile as the excitement settled in.

He stood just outside the school gates for Reki to grab his stuff and join him. Fortunately, it wasn't long before the enthusiastic boy met up with him. The silence began to be filled with idle chatter from the redhead. Langa sighed fondly, he didn't think he could ever get tired of hearing Reki talk. It was almost as though when Reki spoke he made everything around him brighter. Langa loved that about him.

Langa loved everything about him.

The stop at Langa's apartment went by smoothly. They dropped their things off hurriedly and didn't waste any time making their way over to the event. The disappointment that they couldn't bring their boards with them started to set in causing Langa to slow his pace just a bit. Reki was having none of it though and took Langa's hand in his own as he rushed to get to the entrance before the line got too long.

They surprisingly did make it just before a huge crowd showed up. Reki grinned proudly at that, which had Langa chuckling.

They got past the ticket booth easily, and Reki wasted no time in tugging Langa along to the most thrilling rides first. Ones that made Langa yelp in fear, or laugh in joy, or wanna puke. The ride that seemed to stand out the most among them was the swing ride, where they were on swings that hung about 300 feet in the air.

It was only his favorite because he was able to hold Reki's hand the entire time without seeming too awkward.

The absolute worst ride had to be the spaceship one, he didn't know what it was called and he certainly didn't want to. It spun them around in circles until he was seeing circles himself. He definitely didn't like feeling as though his food could come up any second.

He was dazed to say the least, by the time Reki decided Fun houses were also a good idea.

They were not.

They lost each other in the indoor maze and had ended up yelling throughout the whole thing to locate the other, which caused a lot of grumbling from other folks. By the time they made it out of there, half an hour had already gone by. Of course, that wasn't enough to deter Reki from wanting to enter the next one which just so happened to be a haunted maze.

Langa enjoyed that one a lot more.

The jump scares weren't too predictable, and it made Reki cling to his side the entire time. Although when the last animatronic jumped out and a high-pitched scream played from hidden speakers, not even Langa could hide his fright. It ended with him and Reki on the ground, laughing madly, with tears in their eyes.

Next, they stopped for a bite to eat after Langa complained about being starving, to which Reki laughed and replied that he was never not hungry. They didn't get anything special, just some crepes which Langa devoured within minutes.

By that time it was already starting to get dark so Langa suggested they go and play some of the games before they left. Reki acted as though that was the best idea he'd ever heard and practically sprinted to the nearest game booth. Langa shouldn't have had as much fun as he did running to catch up to his crush.

The first game wasn't anything special, and neither boys won a prize. Reki couldn't seem to hit the bottles with the baseballs and Langa had accidentally hit the game vendor which had earned them a glare and a not so polite ban from the booth.

Reki cracked up and told Langa that was the funniest thing he'd ever seen.

Langa did not find it very funny.

The next few games they tried were small prize winners such as plastic rings. Reki won quite a few of them and by the end of it, all of his fingers had a plastic ring wrapped around it and Langa had almost all of his fingers decorated as well. They each had multiple slap bracelets on their wrists too, which had also been used in a slap war because they were teen boys and couldn't resist.

The slap bracelets were nothing compared to the next game's prize though. There was a line to play it, but that didn't deter them. They stood in line for almost fifteen minutes waiting for their chance. Their chance to win a huge stuffed bear. One that was almost as tall as Reki.

Unfortunately, when they both reached the front of the line, Langa realized he might not be cut out for the game after all. He knew there was no way he was gonna hit the bell with his strength and the mallet alone. He'd seen it done in plenty of movies but now faced with the pressure he almost wanted to back out before he could make a fool of himself in front of Reki.

Luckily, he came to his senses and attempted the win. Summoning all of his will to get the stuffed bear for Reki. He closed his eyes and brought the mallet over his head, slamming it down with such force he was sure he won.

He didn't.

He couldn't even get a second chance either, the vendor made it perfectly clear he wasn't negotiating over it. Langa had to step aside, moping as he went, while he watched Reki take his turn at the game.

He shouldn't have been as surprised as he was when the bell rang out and Reki cheered.

A stuffed bear was shoved into his arms and Reki's head popped out from behind the bear. The grin on his face was so bright Langa couldn't help but return it. They stared into each other's eyes for a moment, Langa almost wanting to lean forward to close the distance between them. It was only when some of the crowd cheered at the fact Reki had won, that they were snapped out of their trance.

They quickly left the area, Reki complaining at having to hold the giant teddy with every step. Langa thought that would be the end of their trip. It was dark out already and his mother had asked him to be home before she got there. She wouldn't be home for another two hours but it certainly wouldn't look good if they got home right before she showed up.

Though just as he was about to find the nearest exit, Reki took his hand and gently tugged him in the direction of the ride they'd been avoiding all day. Langa had assumed it was because Reki might've been afraid to ride it, which was perfectly valid in his opinion, but as they got closer he knew what it really was. Reki had been saving this ride for last.

He couldn't help the endearing look he gave Reki as they made their way to the Ferris wheel.

Alas, there was a very long line when they reached the ride. The line wrapped around the large wheel twice. There was no way they'd make it home in time for his mom. Langa was just about to voice those thoughts when Reki didn't stop at the end of the line like he'd been expecting.

No, instead he strode straight up to the front where the ride was boarding. Langa wanted to question his sanity for a second. Though he was shocked when he saw Shadow working to punch holes in tickets and let riders aboard. He had no clue Shadow would be at the carnival let alone working here.

This didn't seem to phase Reki though who handed the older man a good amount of yen and was let on the ride along with Langa. He could already hear the people complaining and arguing about why they got to cut the line. Shadow fended them off though and started the ride before anyone could get any ideas.

They were abruptly brought up in the air, the seat rocking as it was lifted. The line below became smaller the higher they went. Langa sighed contently and leaned back in his seat, unable to look at the angry mob below anymore. Reki didn't seem to notice as he was too busy fidgeting with the big teddy bear that practically took up its own seat. Once he was finished getting it situated, he turned to face Langa.

"You're not afraid of heights." It wasn't stated as a question but it had an underlying uncertainty that only Reki could express.

"Reki, we just went on swings that were higher than this, I'm not afraid of heights." He chuckled a bit as Reki's shoulders seemed to sag. Nothing was said after that for a few minutes. They were approaching the top of the ride and Langa almost held his breath in anticipation.

"You know this wasn't what I was expecting," Reki muttered.

"Oh?" Langa tilted his head slightly, his face must've been betraying the small amount of hurt he felt at the statement because next thing he knew Reki was backtracking.

"No, I mean this is great! It's just...I thought this would be less...I don't know...nerve wracking?"

'Nerve wracking? What could that mean? Reki wasn't afraid of heights himself, was he?' Langa wanted to dwell on the thought further, maybe even ask Reki what was wrong but a moment later they reached the top of the wheel and were stopped. Langa couldn't help but stare in amazement at how beautiful everything looked from above. Sure, he was used to being high up, especially while at 'S' but this was something completely different.

Here, he didn't need to focus on his landing in order to not break a bone.

Here, he wasn't defying gravity to win a race.

Here, he was able to share the view with his favorite person.

The way everything was lit up made him feel some kind of nostalgia. He'd certainly seen this type of scene in movies before. He turned his gaze away from the view to see Reki watching him with what could only be described as a love-stricken expression. Langa stopped breathing. There was no way this could possibly be real. The look Reki was giving him was something Langa had only ever dreamed about. It was a look that told him Reki returned his feelings, and that was a terrifying yet exciting thought.

After a moment, Reki cleared his throat. "I-uhm I'm not exactly good at this...I didn't really prepare a whole speech or anything. I just...I don't think I want to hide whatever this is anymore. I mean that's probably super selfish of me but if there's even a chance-" He stopped himself, chuckling nervously, wiping his hands on his pant leg.

There was a pregnant pause before he released a small breath and continued with just a smidge more confidence than a second ago, "I like you, Langa, as more than a friend. Hell, I might even love you...I probably do, yeah I totally do. But that's besides the point right now. I get it if you don't feel the same, that's totally understandable and I'm not expecting anything from you...except...if you don't feel the same can we just pretend this never-" The panic in his voice was evident and Langa couldn't take it anymore, he leaned forward to kiss him. It pained him to see Reki so nervous and unsure, but somehow he also found it incredibly sweet.

He knew Reki was waiting for a response from him, but he couldn't bring himself to care when he was so busy kissing his sweet chapped lips. It, of course, wasn't the greatest kiss, it was sloppy, and Langa was sure he'd been close to missing Reki's mouth entirely but it was worth it when he felt Reki sigh into it and could practically feel the tension melt from his body. He let out a breathy laugh and pulled away.

"I love you too." He confessed with all the sincerity in the world.

"Really..?" Reki's face scrunched up in disbelief, and Langa felt as if he'd been slapped. The shock was so prominent and the question so unexpected, he didn't hesitate for a second before answering.

"Of course. How could I not? Reki, everything about you is just-"

"Alright alright never mind, forget I asked." Reki's face was practically the same color as his hair, his shoulders hunched up by his ears and he distracted himself by leaning over the safety bar and covering his face with his palms.

"You confessed to me and didn't expect me to tell you just how enamored I am with you?" Langa blanched at the boy who was beyond embarrassed at this point.

Reki was able to sit back up, and wave his hands around in nervous gestures. "Well, I mean...no? I didn't think I'd get this far honestly…" He whined, flustered.

"You're adorable." Langa kissed him again, just as the ride started moving again and they descended down. It was better than the first one. More accurate this time and Langa deepened it by brushing his tongue timidly across the other's lips. It warranted him a barely audible gasp before Reki's mouth was parting ever so slightly, it was enough though, and Langa pushed his tongue into the boy's mouth sliding his tongue against Reki's. His hands subconsciously moving to cradle the nape of the redhead's neck.

They didn't pull apart that time until an unfamiliar voice cleared their throat. The two turned their heads, and it was then they noticed that they were in fact supposed to be getting off the ride and Shadow was nowhere to be seen. 'That can't be good' Langa thought.

He was right.

They were kicked out of the carnival along with Shadow who fortunately only got off with a warning for impersonating a heavy equipment worker. He didn't seem mad though, only asking Reki how 'the plan' went and congratulating them as he drove them home.

After he dropped them off, they didn't waste any time moving onto the next step of their weekend plan. Building a fort.

It wasn't exactly a hard task but they'd dragged it on longer than it needed to be. Mostly because Reki had started a pillow fight, and Langa's competitive streak couldn't resist the temptation. They ended up beating each other with pillows until Reki had tripped and almost hit the television.

It wasn't too much longer after that they finished the fort.

It was a magnificent piece of art. They'd used thumbtacks to hold the blankets to the wall and then had used various items around the house to keep the sides of it up. Then with the remaining blankets and pillows, they'd tossed them down as a makeshift bed. Fairy lights were strung up under the roof of the fort which gave it a glow that completed the look.

The TV was facing the entrance of the temporary tent which gave them a complete view of Zootopia, a movie Reki had for some reason never seen. Langa loved the movie and went so far as to make them hot chocolate and popcorn to enjoy the movie in a theater-like style.

It hadn't mattered much in the long run though.

They'd made it through the beginning of the movie and then switched to making out instead. The movie and snacks forgotten in the moment. They only focused on each other acting as if the world only revolved around the two.

It did though. Caught up in their own world, they didn't need to worry about life's problems. They had each other and for now, that was enough.

Not much time had passed when Langa could tell Reki was starting to get tired. He situated them so that Reki's head was lying on his chest while he lay back against a tall pile of pillows. In less than five minutes the other was snoring peacefully.

Present Time

Yeah, Langa was sure he'd never forget the day they'd had.

Now, while it was fresh on his mind he smiled softly and intertwined his fingers with Reki's. The plastic rings and slap bracelets gone from his hands and strewn across the floor. The teddy bear he'd been gifted sitting in the corner of the fort. His boyfriend resting in his arms.

This was everything he could possibly want.
