A/N: It feels like a long time since the last time I published a fic, then I spent this short period with dozens of unwritten ideas, but now I hope you can read this one. Thank you for all your love!
Let Me Hear Your Story, Mommy!
It's the peace and quiet Lisbon wants to enjoy before meeting the little one inside her belly. Sipping one of Jane's favorite tea, she's sitting on the log she used to sit on since the first time he bought the land, enjoying the serene scenery. Her husband's on the town to buy supplies and materials for the remodel. Ever since she announced her pregnancy, Jane doesn't want her to lift a finger for the project, so most of the time, she's either goes to work or just relaxing near the pond. With the maternity leave coming, she spends a lot of time to rest her aching body.
Her other hand lifts the hem of her shirt, revealing the protruding belly beneath. Evident small kicks prints on her skin, meaning the baby either has woken up from the sleep or just in mood to play. She can't help but smile at the action, her finger gently taps on where the kicks occur.
"Hi, baby. You're up to entertain mommy?" She chuckles, the kicks are getting stronger each time she gives a small rub on the point. "Okay, you're now kicking me like a football player. Do you want mommy to tell a story?"
The kicks are lessening, "Seems you want to hear it, little one."
"Alright, well, it's about me and your dad. A long time ago, he was a broken man after a tragedy had taken two important lives from his life. Apparently, they and a lot of other people were killed by someone evil named Red John. Six months later, your dad came to meet me, to chase the bad guy."
"Mr. Jane. I'm Agent Teresa Lisbon, you wanted to talk to me?"
Lisbon laughs at the memory, "he was almost getting me into a big trouble since the first time we met, and that irked me. However, the next day, he closed the case. And, that's the start. Our boss hired him."
Jane and Lisbon standing near the evidence room, having a small talk before he dug the Red John files.
"One last time, are you sure you wanna do this?" Lisbon asked.
Jane reassured, smiling, "yes, I am."
"Okay," Lisbon shrugged, "I try."
"You did. Thank you." Jane engulfed her in an awkward hug, while she's patting his back.
Her thumb trails the vertical brown line on her stomach, "Things were complicated back then, he's a stubborn man, a complete pain in the ass, and a maniac prankster. And he didn't like being boss around with any person other than me. It's kind of annoying, thinking I would work with him for the rest of my life, but now mommy wouldn't mind." Lisbon sips her tea before continuing the story, "One thing you'd notice was how much he got obsessed by this evil man. Mommy finds it irritating for a few years, before I knew how much he loved his last family, that he'd do anything to find justice for their sake."
Her breath's getting harder, holding back the urge to cry at the moment. Now, it feels endearing to think how much he loves them both, that he will do anything for her and their unborn baby. She has never been so grateful to have someone like Jane, her biggest regret.
"Well," she sniffs, gently wiping the escaped tears from her eyes, "he got his vengeance, and at the same time, he left me behind to hide in Venezuela, after killed the evil man. Honestly, mommy having a hard time dealing with his absence. There's no one to entertain me more, no one to annoy me. Even when mommy got a job as a police officer, it feels strange when he's not there. But, two years later, I got a call from the FBI, where mommy works right now, that mommy should come there. To my surprise, your dad just showed up like nothing happened when mommy missed him so much."
Jane opened the door reluctantly. It's been a while since his escape, so he was super nervous. He saw Lisbon in a beige coat, sitting blankly on the chair. It was relieving to see her back, to know at least she was fine.
"Hey." He greeted.
She chuckled in delight, getting up from her seat, "Hello."
Lisbon scanned Jane's figure awhile. Him dresses in island shirt, his growing hair, and most prominently, his beard, "Nice beard."
It's an indescribable feeling how much he's glad to see her safe, despite the big mess he left after killing Thomas McAllister, "Thank you."
"Thank you for the letters." Yes, the letters he wrote and sent her via his carny buddies. Lisbon was shocked that he could pass the letters to her. She was sure to not left any traces where she was moving on, but Jane is Jane, most of the time he could read her mind.
Jane pulled her into a hug, "Oh, I missed you."
"I missed you too."
"It was a short reunion, but a memorable one where I realized how much I love him. We've been best friends for years, so it's hard when you have to confess your love for that person. Instead, mommy was running with someone good, but not someone right. At one point, I was about to run with this man to DC, before your dad sprained his ankle only to confess his love for me."
"The truth is, I love you."
"Now, that you're almost here, the result of our journey. Years ago, we were thinking, " can we find our happiness?", and you're the answer of our questions, baby." Lisbon soothes the small and frequent baby kicks, smiling ear to ear, "You're going to have such a wonderful dad, tiny. He met a lot of children during our cases together, and the look in his eyes is precious, I can't imagine when you're in your daddy's arms. He loves you to bits. And don't forget that mommy always loves you so much, too. I can't wait to kiss you all over your adorable face."
"Yeah, I have no doubt in that." A man voice comes from behind.
"Patrick? Since when you're here?"
Jane grins before joining on Lisbon's side, "Don't worry, just listen to your storytelling. It's pretty heartwarming."
She put the cup aside before leaning on him for a passionate kiss, "Still with that sneak in skills of yours, huh?"
"Meh, I'm just listening to you without your knowing." He sneers, continuing to kiss her with desire.
His hands joining hers upon the growing belly, linking their fingers together. The baby kicks right where their hands land on. "She wants to join. Right, baby?" He lowers himself and plants a loving kiss on her belly.
"Oh, don't start the gender fight again, prince charming. I'm sick of it."
"No, it's just a Jane hunch that baby Jane will be a girl, that's all. I didn't start any fights, after all." Jane smirks.
"Stop it." Lisbon chuckles, her green orbs lands on Jane's blueberry eyes, "I still can't believe I'm stuck with you forever."
"But you love it anyway." Jane put a sudden kiss on her lips, "It's the moment when I saw you for the very first time, I knew I'd fall on my knees. It's just you that made me genuinely happy, and forever I will be."
"Too cheesy."
"And this is cheesy, huh?" Jane cups Lisbon's face and plants a long kiss on her plump lips. She can't resist the urge to get hungry with all his love, her heart melts at the thought. It does feel right, to have him in her life.
"Shut up. I love you." Lisbon hungrily kiss her husband back, guiding the way to their airstream to "have some fun".
It's like they're ready to face whatever lays in their future, as long as they're together.
"No matter what happens, from this point on, we have to promise each other, that we will always look at the bright side."
"I promise."
"Me too."
