A VISIT TO A SMALL PLANET

(Doctor Who Style)

[While working on the intended version of this future chapter, I was getting the idea for this version. During the writing, I realized it could be part 1 of 2, the other version being part 2. It may be a bit dull in places, but I've always wanted to incorporate that rascally Time Lord in the famous blue box in the BSG stories. Although I was doing so in another story concept involving the Battlestar Galactica using the Peter Davison Doctor Who, this will mark The Doctor's first proper appearance. Plus, it gives me a chance to tie up another loose end in the BSG storyline. And for the record, Satwinder Singh Bhinder was the first officer of Air India flight 182, which was blown up off the southern coast of Ireland on June 23, 1985, killing all 329 on board. The bombing was attributed to the Sikh separatist group Babbar Khalsa. Another bomb was planted on another Air India flight which made it to its destination of Narita, Japan. That bomb exploded while being handled by baggage handlers, killing two handlers. This chapter is written in the memory of those 331 souls lost that fateful day.]

BSG

It's always the darkest before the dawn ...

During Will's time with the Ship Of Lights, John had always repeated that mantra. And, in this instance, Will had to question that philosophy. Having been out on long-range patrol, Will had to run from three Cylon Raiders and ran out of fuel. His Viper's power systems were at their lowest, and his life support gases were almost out.

But, in the end, he still clung to hope. It was all he had. Where there's life, there's hope. Or so he always believed.

So, he sat in his drifting Viper watching and waiting.

And then it happened.

A flash of visible light, and then a ship seemed to appear out of nowhere. Looking like a blue box somewhat smaller than his Viper, it seemed to spin at first, then slowed to a stop relative to his own ship. A door opened in the side of the new ship, and Will saw a thin man in an ill-fitting blueish garment looking at him. The man motioned to his head and Will at the same time. Will gave a thumbs-up, indicating he understood the man.

The man then gestured for his ship to move to Will's, then Will was to EVA out to his ship. Another thumbs-up from Will, and the man retreated into his ship. Will watched as the ship moved slowly over to his, and as it did Will saw a thin dark-skinned female, possibly human, move to the open doorway and begin gesturing for Will to begin his EVA.

Opening his canopy, Will began positioning himself on the side of his gun pod. Then, after checking his position, he gently pushed himself to the open door. Although the distance only covered a few metrons, Will's rate of closure was so little that it took him a few microns to reach the door, then pull himself in with the aid of the female. After he was safely inside, the female reached over and closed the door. Gesturing for him to remove his helmet, Will did so, and was rewarded with breathable air.

"How're you feeling?" asked the female.

"Pretty good. How can I understand your speech?" replied Will.

"The TARDIS has a built-in auto-translating system. I'm Martha Jones. You?"

"Lieutenant Will of Green Squadron, assigned to the Battlestar Galactica. You called this, what, a TARDIS?"

"'Allo," said the thin man, who had walked up in the meantime. "I'm the Doctor. Yes, this is called the TARDIS. That's spelled T-A-R-D-I-S, and it stands for Time And Relative Dimensions In Space. It is, in essence, a time-traveling machine."

Glancing around, Will replied, "And would the fact that your craft is bigger on the inside than on the outside refer to the 'Relative Dimensions' part?"

"Exactly!" exclaimed the Doctor. "You're really quick."

"One has to be to be in the Colonial Defense Forces." replied Will "You mentioned you're The Doctor. You're doctor who, to be exact?"

"That's right."

Will shook his head slightly. "I don't understand."

"That's my full title, Doctor Who. But I simply call myself The Doctor."

Will blinked. "Just what planet are you from, anyway?"

"I'm originally from the planet Gallifrey, home of the Time Lords."

"Oh-kay." replied Will. Turning to Martha, he asked. "What's your home planet?"

"Earth." she replied.

"Oh." he gazed forward. Either my Viper is feeding my carbide back at me or I'm having the most interesting encounter in Colonial history, He thought to himself. Turning back to Martha, he said, "You're from Earth?" She nodded. "The home of the Thirteenth Tribe of Kobol? That Earth?" he asked.

Martha got a funny look on her face. "I'm not sure of the Thirteenth Tribe of Kobol part, but my world is called Earth. Does that mean anything?"

"My people, The Survivors of the Colonies of the Twelve, are looking for your world. You may have forgotten your connection with the thirteenth tribe of Kobol somehow. Do you happen to know the location of your world?"

"I do." said The Doctor. "I've been there lots of times." He brightened. "Would you like to go there?" He said, smiling broadly.

"Yeah!" added Martha, grinning as well. "We could show you all the sights. Well, at least the sights of my home town, London England. But we could get you information about other places on the planet, like Australia, Tahiti, and Africa. You could take that back to your people so they could learn something about us."

"That would work." replied Will. "And, maybe your planet's actual location, so we could one day meet with your people."

"I don't see a problem with that." said Martha. "Doctor?" she asked.

"Maybe. We'll see. By the way," he said pointing, "Is that a weapon?"

"Yes," replied Will, "It's my sidearm, my laser pistol."

"I have to admit, I don't like guns, so if I could put it in a safe place on board the TARDIS, I'd feel better."

Thinking a few moments, Will said, "No problem. But, when you get me back to my people, I'd like it back."

"Like you said, no problem." Taking the sidearm from Will after Will removed it, he then walked to the central column. "But, like we were saying," he said, "To The Earth!" He began pressing buttons, twirling knobs, and moving to the far side of the column and manipulating balls and levers. As he did so, a lighted portion in the center of the column started moving up and down, with loud grinding sound accompanying.

"And remember, Doctor," said Martha, "Drop us off in front of me mum's house. I still need to talk to her about the Lazarus matter." The Doctor glanced up from his operating of the TARDIS and nodded.

Will frowned slightly. "Martha, do I understand that the word 'mum' refers to a flower?"

"Yes, but in my case it refers to my mother."

"Ah, I see. So, just when do we arrive at this 'London England'."

"We already have." said The Doctor, walking up. Turning slightly to the central column, he continued, "When the Time Rotor in the center stops moving up and down, it means we have arrived at our destination."

"So ... you're saying that this 'London England' is right outside that door?" asked Will.

"That's right." said The Doctor. "Have a look." added Martha.

Turning to the door, Will thought to himself, I must be out of my mind. Reaching the door, he looked back at The Doctor and Martha who both nodded. Opening the door, he looked and saw not the blackness and stars of outer space, but a brightly lit lane made of several materials with what looked like multicolored lumps of metal lining each side of the lane. Across from the TARDIS, he saw what looked like dwellings, each coated in different colors.

Looking back at The Doctor and Martha, both nodded, and Martha said, "Go ahead, step outside. It's perfectly safe, and the air is breathable."

Taking a tentative step out onto the surface, he tested to make sure of its hardness, then stepped out fully to stand on the surface. Taking a few steps to look around he heard both come out of the TARDIS. Looking back, he said, "Some kind of premade stone substance?"

"It's called concrete." said Martha. "And the darker stuff out in the lane is called asphalt. It's a tar-like material mixed with finely ground rock as filler."

"What are those colored lumps of metal in the lane?"

"They're called automobiles. We use them mostly as personal transportation. On the other side of the lane are houses that people live in."

Will shook his head to clear it. "I'm ... I'm really here. This is really The Earth. Everything we've worked and fought and died and dreamed for. I wish the others could see me now. And these are trees lining the walkway, right?"

"Right." said Martha, who glanced across the lane and waved. "There's me mum with me sister Tish. Follow us, and be careful. You wouldn't want to be struck by one of the cars, which is what we call automobiles for short."

Following both across the lane, while watching for any 'cars' that might come by, all three made it across the lane without incident. Martha ran up and hugged both her mother and her sister. Martha's mother glanced and scowled slightly at The Doctor, then saw Will.

"Who's this, Martha?" asked Martha's mother.

"Mum, Tish, this is Lieutenant Will. We found him adrift in his spaceship and rescued him."

"Martha, you can't be serious." said Tish. "You rescued a strange man drifting in a spaceship?"

"What's wrong with that?" replied Martha. "It was only the humane thing to do."

"Whatever." said Martha's mother, who extended her hand. "I'm Martha's mother, Francine Jones. This is her sister, Letishia. But we call her 'Tish' for short."

"A pleasure to meet you Siress." Will said. Clasping their forearms, both flinched.

"That's an interesting way to shake hands." said Tish.

"It's the Colonial way, I'm afraid. How do you do it?"

"By taking the hands only, like this." Tish then went on to demonstrate.

"Ah. Different ways for different peoples." said Will.

"Though I have to say, I do like your way better." Tish then clasped forearms, then pulled Will closer to her.

"Tish!" said Martha. "Sorry Will, but Tish shouldn't be hitting on you like that."

"She didn't strike me at all." replied Will.

"No, what I mean is Tish was getting fresh. She should know better. The first person I bring with me other than The Doctor, and she's trying to get to know you much better than she should."

"I'm a bit confused." said Will. "First, she's hitting on me without striking me, then you say she's getting fresh. Was she stale before?"

"What planet are you from?" asked Francine.

"I'm originally from the planet Gaia. But, I currently work with the survivors of The Colonies of the Twelve to find a new home for them."

"Are you seeing someone?" asked Tish with a sweet smile.

Looking at Tish for a few moments, Will replied. "If you're asking what I think you're asking, I'm sealed to a Galactica bridge officer."

"Before we get too far along," said The Doctor, "Why don't we go inside and get comfortable? I'll need to contact someone about Will."

"Good idea, Doctor." said Francine.

As the five moved to a dwelling, Tish turned to Will and said, "What's sealed? And what's a Galactica?"

"Sealed means she's my wife. And Galactica is my command ship, a battlestar."

"A shame you're married." said Tish. "That means that Martha's also cut off."

"I certainly have a lot of idiom to learn." said Will. "But so far, I take it married means sealed."

"It would seem that way." said Tish.

Francine opened a door to one of the dwellings. Leading everyone to a room with furnishings, she motioned. "Please, everyone take a seat. I'll get some refreshments."

"Francine, where is your phone?" asked The Doctor.

"Here, I'll show you." replied Francine, leading The Doctor into the hallway.

"So, Will," said Tish, sitting, "Have a seat here. And, what's your wife like?"

"Here, let me show you." Will took out an image viewer from inside his jacket. Pressing a few parts of the display, Will showed her the image. "This is Rigel. She's the Galactica's launch control officer in the core command level. She's the last voice we hear from the command ship upon leaving on patrol, and the first we hear when returning. Many of the pilots have called her their 'angel of the night' welcoming them back. Of course she's my angel, you see."

Smiling, Tish nodded in understanding.

Sliding his finger across the display, Will continued. "This is our sealing day. The white-haired man behind us is Commander Adama, the commander of the Battlestar Galactica, my command ship. He served as our sealing officiator. The dark-haired pair next to him are his son Apollo, and his daughter Athena. In front of Apollo is his son, Boxey. The light-haired girl next to Athena is Bree, one of the squadron members, and the dark fella next to Apollo is Boomer, my squadron leader in green squadron."

"Your commander is a striking man. And Apollo and Boomer are handsome as well." said Tish. Swiping her finger across the display, she breathed in sharply. "That's the Arboreal Deck running along the spine of the Galactica." said Will. "It has plants from all over the colonies, including succulents and a sessile tree that's part animal. Its branches can move, and track by body heat. If you stand too close and don't move quickly enough, you'll get an embarrassing surprise by being engulfed in its branches. There are no thorns or such, but it would be embarrassing enough to have to be pried out by others." Tish smiled at the thought.

The Doctor walked up. "I just finished speaking with Colonel Mace of UNIT. That stands for 'UNified Intelligence Taskforce'. The Colonel is sending someone over to talk with you. I don't think there will be any trouble at all."

Will scowled. "Should there be any?" he asked.

"Earth isn't quite known for its hospitality towards people from outer space, Will." said Tish. "Our fictional media has painted a bad picture towards what we call 'ee tees', or extraterrestrials. Some regions of the planet might treat you as hostile, even if you're not."

"Would I be if I were invited here by one of your people?" asked Will.

"It depends." replied The Doctor, slightly smiling. "But, I don't think there should be a problem with UNIT involvement. They know of my origins, and I've worked with UNIT over the years here. Like I said, there should be no problems."

BSG

Hours later, Will was sitting across from a UNIT Captain. The name plate on the woman's uniform read MAGAMBO. She listened to Will's story of the Colonies of the Twelve and their history. Sitting at the table as well were The Doctor, Martha, Tish, and Francine. As Will finished his lecture, Captain Magambo started nodding.

"Well, I can see no reason to deny temporary access to Earth at this time." said the Captain. "Your story is unique, and UNIT's history with hostile life clearly shows that your culture isn't hostile per se. I'll even get you some credit, which should be here in the morning. If these people haven't already told you so, you would be best advised to get some alternative local clothes so you'll blend in."

"We can help him with that." said Martha, with Tish nodding agreement.

"I'm glad you are being reasonable," said Will, "I've been told that some people on this planet would react badly to my presence."

Magambo nodded at that. "Some, but not all. Thanks to certain portions of our mass media, many people have been given bad information about extraterrestrial life. We at UNIT understand that some life forms are good for us, like The Doctor. He's helped us in the past, and he's still on our rolls. We owe him dearly for what he's done for us before."

"And, no doubt, I might be needed in the future." quipped The Doctor.

Captain Magambo stood up. "I'll send your credit voucher by way of military courier in the morning. Welcome to Earth, and good luck to you during your visit." Will stood up and they shook hands Colonial style, then she left.

BSG

The next morning, the voucher arrived with instructions on its usage. Will, Martha, and Tish all went out and got Will several changes of clothes, many of the items interchangable. Will liked the denim trousers that he bought.

"Interesting choice, those blue jeans," said Tish, "Those are brands from what we call, 'across the pond', or America."

"They seemed to be of good quality." said Will.

"Well, at least the shirts will match." said Martha.

After Will had changed, the three went out and had something to eat at a fast food restaurant. The three took in the sights of London, with Will wondering how they placed such a large clock in a tower. The other two didn't have an answer for that.

"It was well before our time." said Tish, with Martha nodding.

"Simple tradition." replied Will, and the other two nodded again.

They walked and talked for hours until it started getting dark, then went back to Francine's home, with Martha and Tish going to their respective apartments.

The next morning, they went out looking for items regarding the planet. "We'll need some things, books and globes and such, that'll tell my peole about the Earth and its populations, its cultures, and even some linguistic references." said Will. So, that's what they did, placing them into the TARDIS afterward for ease in transport.

After they had dinner, the girls decided to stay overnight and Francine was in bed, but Will had something on his mind. So, he went out to the TARDIS. Knocking, the door opened and The Doctor saw it was Will.

"May I talk to you about something?" asked Will.

"Sure, come on in." Walking into the TARDIS, The Doctor glanced back and said, "So, what did you want to talk about?"

"This is a very delicate subject," said Will, "And I'm not sure how you'll react. I will say that I'm still not convinced about the TARDIS's time-travel capabilities, and my people will most likely be more skeptical than I. Might it be possible to bring someone out of the past into the present?"

The Doctor rubbed the side of his neck. "Ooh ... that is a delicate subject." he said. "Typically, we Time Lords try not to do such a thing because each person's lifespan is a fixed point in history."

"I see. I'm asking because during the attack on the Colonies, three yahrens before you rescued me, my commanding officer lost his wife as a result of the attack. Understand, they didn't find her or her body, so it's entirely possible she could have survived, say possibly she was taken from Caprica the night of the attack by a Colonial Warrior traveling in a time machine, then taken back to the warriors' present and returned to her family. Would that be possible?"

After a few moments thought, The Doctor nodded. "But," he added, "It depends on a number of factors. If she was killed that night, taking her from the moment of her death could have a sort of 'blowback' effect. A previous traveling companion of mine disregarded this and saved her father from dying when it was his time. The results, to say the least, was that 'all hell broke loose', and it took his dying all over again to set things right. If your commander's wife wasn't killed that night, might she have been captured by your enemies? She might still be alive even now, just waiting to be rescued through conventional means."

"If she were still alive among the Cylons, she would be better off dead." replied Will, "Especially if she were injured from the attack; the Cylons don't take good care of their prisoners, humans getting the worst treatment of all, since they have issued a death sentence on all humans. I'm just wondering ..."

It was at this point that a chime rang on the TARDIS console.

"Excuse me, Will, I have a phone call." Picking up a handset, The Doctor said, "'Allo? ... Wait, Martha, slow down, what's happening inside the house?" The Doctor motioned for Will to listen in. What they heard shocked them.

"Doctor, we have intruders in the house." said Martha. "I think they have Tish and Mum, but I'm still in my room. The intruders are apparently searching for me, and they will most likely find me soon. Please help us!"

"Alright, Martha," said The Doctor. "Let me contact Colonel Mace and get him in on this. Talk to you soon." The Doctor pressed a button, then pressed more, then placed the handset to his head. After a few moments, he said, "Get me Colonel Mace; This is The Doctor. Code red, I say again, code red!"

"Doctor," said Will, "Where is my sidearm?"

"Do you think you'll need it?" asked The Doctor.

"Just in case, yes." The Doctor pointed off to the side, and Will wasted no time in grabbing his sidearm and strapping it to his thigh. Checking its power levels and adjusting its power output, he dropped it back into its holster.

"Colonel Mace," said The Doctor, "We have a situation at the house of Francine Jones. Martha and her sister Tish were staying the night, and intruders have apparently attacked the house ... that's right Colonel, Francine, Martha and Tish Jones are under attack by unknown numbers. Can you get someone over here quickly? ... Good, we'll try and keep things stable until you get here. See you soon." The Doctor pressed a button on the handset, and replaced it in its cradle.

"So we wait, you say?" asked Will. The Doctor nodded.

"When it comes to local matters," said The Doctor, "It's best to allow local personnel to handle these things." Will nodded in understanding.

Tap tap tap.

Will and the Doctor looked at each other, then the door.

Tap tap tap.

"Do you think it's Martha?" asked Will, and The Doctor shook his head. "I have no idea." he replied.

Tap tap tap.

"Do you think we should answer it?" asked Will.

"I really don't know." replied The Doctor. "But, I'll open the door slightly and see who it is. It might be Martha; she may have climbed out her window."

As The Doctor walked slowly to the door, Will drew his sidearm and braced himself. Looking back at Will, The Doctor nodded, then opened the door slightly.

The door exploded, and two men clad in black from head to toe burst into the TARDIS. Knocking The Doctor down, they spotted Will and advanced. Will didn't waste any words on them; he fired at both, and they dropped without a sound. Will hurried to the door and closed it, turning the locking mechanism. Looking to The Doctor who was rubbing the back of his neck, he asked, "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'll be fine." said The Doctor.

"Why don't you get something to secure these two with." said Will. "I'll keep watch, though the mild stun setting on my sidearm should hold them for a few more centons." The Doctor nodded and went into the next compartment, returning with securements. They secured them both to the TARDIS's structure with their arms behind their backs.

"Now we wait?" said Will.

"Now we wait." replied The Doctor.

After a few more centons, there was another knock at the TARDIS's door.

Will looked at The Doctor and raised an eyebrow, and The Doctor shook his head. After a few moments, a voice from outside said, "Doctor, it's Colonel Mace with Captain Magumbo. If you're inside, please open up."

The Doctor smiled and ran to the door, opening it. In walked a tall man in a military-style uniform, accompanied by Captain Magumbo. Will couldn't help but notice the man's erect regal bearing.

"Colonel Mace," said Captain Magumbo, gesturing to Will, "This is Lieutenant Will of the Colonies of the Twelve." Colonel Mace snapped his open hand up to his forehead.

"Oh, please, you don't need to salute in the TARDIS." said The Doctor.

"Sorry," said The Colonel, "It's standard military procedure. I'm sure you understand, right Lieutenant?"

"In the Colonial Defense Forces," said Will, "We don't salute. But, at formal gatherings, we stand at attention in full dress uniforms."

"Ah." said Colonel Mace. Turning, he added, "I see you captured two of them."

"They entered by force." said Will. "I stunned them with my sidearm at its lowest setting."

"Impressive." replied The Colonel. Reaching down, he removed the mask from the first one. Shaking his head at the face, he removed the second intruders' mask. Drawing in air sharply, he said, "Colonel Vice. I told you to go home."

"You know him?" asked Will.

"This is Colonel Vice of the United States Air Force. He came to me and asked to see you. He said something about making you an offer. I told him you were off limits and advised him to go home. Obviously he didn't take me up on the advice."

"Well," said Will, "I can be civil, even if he can't. I'll hear his offer, then tell him to go to hades. Even a terrorist from what I understand you call 'across the pond' can be treated to certain courtesies."

The Colonel smiled at that. The one called Colonel Vice stirred.

"And, he awakens just in time for a question and answer session." said Will. "Who wants first call?" he added.

Looking at Vice, Colonel Mace said, "You were told to go home."

Blinking, Vice finally said, "And I told you I would talk with him no matter what."

"Yes, and I've seen your methods." said Will. "You attacked my friends, and broke into the TARDIS. You probably intended to gain my cooperation at gunpoint by kidnapping me. Why should I trust you after this act of terrorism?"

"I'm not a terrorist." said Vice. "I'm a soldier of my nation. We wish to acquire your services. We'll even pay you well for those services, which includes giving us unrestricted access to your people's technology. We are, after all, more capable of utilizing your data than any other nation, Britain included. No offense to these two, but their home nation has lost its luster over the last few decades, and we are the more technologically capable nation on the planet. So, we're the best hope for proper use of your technology. What do you say?"

"You're mistaken; you are a terrorist." replied Will. "As for your vague offer of rewards for betraying my people so you can profit off of other people's hard work, like I said before you came to, you can go to hades. Now, you will answer our questions: How many of your people are still inside the Jones household?"

"I won't tell you that." replied Vice.

"He doesn't need to." said The Doctor.

"Oh?" asked Will.

Reaching into a drawer, The Doctor took something out. Walking to Colonel Mace, he handed the item to him. Looking at it, Colonel Mace got a confused look on his face.

"Green-colored spectacles, Doctor?" asked Colonel Mace.

"Put them on, and look at each of us." replied The Doctor.

Cautiously, Colonel Mace placed the item on his face. Looking around, he got a startled look on his face, removed the spectacles, then placed them back on. "Doctor, what are these?" he asked.

"Colored spectacles which are designed to display bio-electric fields which surround all life. You can see through most materials, save the TARDIS, due to its unique structure."

"And I should be able to see into the Jones household?" asked The Colonel.

The Doctor pointed to the door. "Go see for yourself."

After a moment's consideration, Colonel Mace walked to the door and opened it. Stepping out, he seemed taken aback by what he was seeing. Looking at the Jones house, he said, "It looks like five forms in the front room, three are apparently sitting on the floor."

"That would be Francine, Martha, and Tish Jones. The other two must be the Colonel's cohorts." said Will.

"Agreed." replied Mace.

Drawing his sidearm, Will stepped up to Colonel Mace's side and asked, "Shall we do a frontal assault?"

Looking at Will's sidearm, Colonel Mace replied, "Let's give them a chance to surrender peacefully, shall we."

"Based on what I've heard from Colonel Vice," said Will, "I have reason to think that's unlikely."

"Nevertheless," replied Colonel Mace, "Like you said, we can be civil, right?"

Looking back at The Doctor and Captain Magumbo, Will said, "Me and my big mouth!" Both of them smiled broadly.

Colonel Mace stepped over to a UNIT vehicle, took out a device, adjusted its output, placed it up to his face, and spoke. "You two terrorists inside the Jones household, let's make this easy on everyone with you coming out unarmed with your hands in the air." The device clearly amplified his words so everyone on the lane could hear him.

"Where's Colonel Vice?" yelled a voice from inside the house.

"Secured in the TARDIS." yelled Will back.

"Who are you?" asked the voice.

"A friend of the Jones family." replied Will. "You better not have hurt them." he added.

"Well, I don't believe you have him." replied the voice.

"Ah," said Will, "The easy way." He turned and walked into the TARDIS. Drawing his sidearm, he shot Colonel Vice, who slumped over stunned. Releasing the Colonel's restraints, he turned him over, resecured him, then picked him up over his shoulder. Carrying him out, he heard the other one swear. Taking him across the lane, he placed him on the automobile directly in front of the Jones house. Holding him up so his face could be seen in the house, he heard the men swear profanities.

"What did you do to him?" the voice asked.

"I only stunned him with my sidearm at its lowest setting." replied Will. "He should regain conciousness shortly. We'll wait if you like."

"Yes, let's wait." said the voice.

After a few centons, Vice stirred, and blinked his eyes at the new surroundings. "I hate it when you do that!" he growled.

"And I believe I'll have to do it to you one more time." replied Will. Turning to the house, he said, "Well, you see? I told you he'd come to."

"Yes, you did." replied the voice.

"And, so you know I did stun him." Will drew his sidearm and shot Vice again. As Vice slumped back onto the vehicle, more profanities were heard from inside. Will looked at Colonel Mace and said, "There's only so much civility I can stomach." Mace nodded as Will turned back to the house and called out, "Well, what'll it be? Do I come in, or are you coming out?"

After a few more moments, the voice replied, "Okay! Okay! We're coming out! Just don't shoot him anymore."

"I don't think I need to." quipped Will. As the front door opened, Will trained his sidearm at the two men coming out. Directing them to a secure spot, he holstered his sidearm and entered the house after UNIT had control of them. Walking in, he found all three women standing with shocked looks on their faces.

"You stunned that man twice?" asked Tish.

"Actually, I stunned him three times." replied Will. Holding up one finger, he said, "First, after he broke into the TARDIS and assaulted The Doctor," two fingers, "Second, in order to bring him out of the TARDIS, and third," three fingers, "To show them I could do it."

"You can be cold-blooded, you know." said Francine.

"Hey!" replied Will. "They're bullies. And you know the one true characteristic of bullies, right?" All three shook their head no.

"They love to dish it out, but they hate taking it."

Tish hugged Will, while Francine smiled and Martha stood there with her arms folded in front of her, grinning.

BSG

"Remind me to never make an enemy of you, Lieutenant."

"You're learning, Colonel Mace. Good luck on prosecuting those four."

"Luck will have nothing to do with it. After the insults hurled at us ... suffice it to say, they'll be lucky to come out of this with their teeth intact."

"Like the old saying goes, Colonel; Revenge is sweet, and it don't rot your teeth."

Mace laughed. "True."

"And, in spite of your military correctness, you may call me Will."

After a moment's consideration, Mace replied, "I think not." Will shrugged. Mace continued, "I've been authorized by UNIT Command to accompany you in the TARDIS when you go back to your people. I've already informed The Doctor, and he agrees. I'll represent the people of The Planet Earth in making peaceful contact, and I'm taking several key aides with me, including Captain Magumbo."

"I'm sure my people will appreciate this gesture."

"The United Nations of Earth has decided to extend a massive aid package to your people. Food, medical supplies, blankets, and fresh water supplies are being assembled, and we may have volunteers to bolster your defensive efforts against these Cylons. Their declaration of war against all humanity goes for us as well, and as another old saying goes, 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend'."

"It's good to know some people understand."

"Well, I have to go. I'll see you in a few days." Mace saluted again and entered his staff car, which drove off promptly.

After a few moments of watching the staff car drive away, Will sensed someone next to him. Looking, he saw The Doctor. "Can I get your sidearm back?" he asked.

With an exasperated look, Will unstrapped his sidearm and handed it over. "Just when I was getting used to it again." he said.

"Barring an emergency," replied The Doctor, taking the weapon, "you'll get it back when we reach your fleet." He turned and walked back into the TARDIS.

After a few moments looking down the lane, Will walked back into the Jones house, sat down in the living room, and sighed. Home, he mused. I'm coming home, my love, wait for me.

BSG

Two days later, The Doctor walked in with Colonel Mace.

"For the past two days," began Mace, "We've been assembling the supplies at a local military base. We're ready to begin loading operations, and if you're ready to go, Lieutenant, we can move the TARDIS. Is there anyone else you'd like to take?"

"Well, since I seem to get along quite well with all three," replied Will, "I'd like to take Martha, Tish, and Francine along. If they'd like."

"'If' I'd like?" said Tish. "Of course I would. Mom?"

"Well ..." said Francine.

"Oh, mom, it'll be great!" added Martha.

"Okay, then!" replied Francine. "How long will it take to get ready?"

"We estimate one week to load the TARDIS, then we'll head out to the fleet." said Mace.

"I would think one case full of things should suffice. Some simple outfits, as well as a dress outfit for special occasions." said Will.

"Okay then. One week." said Martha, with Tish nodding.

"Well," said Will, "I'll go get back into uniform and pack. See you shortly."

After Will had went back to his room, Mace turned to The Doctor and said, "Just how much is he packing?"

"Not much," replied The Doctor.

"Most of what he bought here is already on the TARDIS." added Martha. "Mostly it is maps and globes and data about The Earth and its nations, and some mementos as well." Mace nodded.

After a few minutes Will stepped out and all six went out to the TARDIS. Entering, Martha brought up the rear and closed the doors. Moving to the center, The Doctor went to the control console. Manipulating the controls, the time rotor in the center began moving up and down, but only for a few seconds. Looking into what looked like a scanner readout, The Doctor nodded in satisfaction. Walking to the doors, The Doctor opened them and everyone filed out.

Looking around, Colonel Mace said, "This is hangar 72 at Hampstead Air Base. Formerly with the British Royal Air Forces, it was ceded to UNIT for our use." Looking, he spotted Captain Magumbo. "Is everything in order, Captain?" he asked.

Looking at the TARDIS, Magumbo held up one hand. "Let me re-check." she said. Circling the TARDIS and mentally measuring the door opening, she began shaking her head slightly. "A lot of what we have is on pallets, which it appears won't fit through these doors; they're just too big to fit."

Thinking for a few moments, The Doctor finally said, "I think I have an idea. But, everyone needs to step out of the hangar and give me a few minutes." As everyone began moving out of the hangar, Martha asked, "Do you need me for anything?"

"Oh, no, Martha, I can handle this." replied The Doctor. "You just watch with everyone else." Martha nodded and went over to the others.

After The Doctor entered the TARDIS and everyone else was watching from outside, Francine said, "I wonder what he's going to do?"

"My question," said Will, "comes from your video broadcasts. Are we there yet?" Everyone smiled at that.

And then it happened.

Glowing slightly, the TARDIS began growing. Eventually filling the hangar, it resembled a blue triangular shuttle on three landing gear, with the word 'TARDIS' labeled across its front.

With his jaw halfway open, Will just gaped. "Felder!" he half-squeaked, then cleared his throat. "Now that's magic!" he added.

"I had read that The Doctor had claimed that the TARDIS had this ability," said Captain Magumbo, "But I think we are the first to actually see it in action."

A pair of hatches opened in the lower nose just in front of the forward landing gear, and a staircase lowered to the ground. The Doctor descended and Will just pointed and said, "How ...?"

"Among the Time Lords was a piece of technology called a Chamaeleon Circuit." said The Doctor. "It allowed a TARDIS to assume any exterior shape as needed. Mine hadn't worked until recently, but I've preferred to keep it in the blue box shape because it's universally unobtrusive."

"Unobtrusive?" replied Will.

"Yes." answered The Doctor. "If you were walking down the street and saw a blue box like the TARDIS, what would you do?"

"Run and yell, 'We're being invaded!'?" replied Will. Everyone smiled at that.

"No." said The Doctor. "You'd pass right by without a second thought. Think about it."

After a few moments of thinking, Will replied, "Frak me, you're right! But, if I were to see something like that," he pointed to the new look, "Then I think I would be justified in running and yelling 'We're being invaded!'"

"Probably." replied The Doctor, and everyone laughed at that. "If everyone will come aboard, I'll show you the interior."

"Give me a few microns, Doctor. I want to look at the exterior first." said Will.

"Alright, we'll wait inside then." replied The Doctor.

As everyone else filed into the TARDIS, Will began his walkaround of the 'freighter'. As he did so, his eyes were drawn to familiar parts of the ship. As he reached the back end, he looked up at what would be the engines. Instead he saw glowing cones. Shaking his head, he resumed his walkaround and wound up back at the front. Walking up the stairs, he entered at the front of the main control room.

"Doctor, I have to hand it to you." he said. "Either you've studied ship design under Colonial engineers or you got just plain lucky. I spotted at least fifty familiar design elements with this version."

"Thank you; I got lucky." admitted The Doctor. "Well, now that everyone's here, let's take a look at the main cargo and personnel section. If everyone will follow me, I'm sure we'll have enough room for everything and everyone."

Walking to the back door of the TARDIS control room, The Doctor led the way. With everyone following, they entered a darkened section. "Let me bring up the lights." said The Doctor. Walking to a box in the wall, he flipped a lever, and lights began turning on. After a short time, they could all see what he had made.

"There are two long sections here on each side." he pointed. "They are for the storage of the cargo. In the center of the forward section is the vertical lift platform for bringing cargo aboard. I assume you'll be bringing forklifts in here." He looked at Colonel Mace and Captain Magumbo, but only Magumbo needed to confirm this by nodding. "There should be enough room for the forklifts to be stored for transit, and if needed, I can divide some of the storage for refrigeration. Are there any questions?"

Looking down each side, Will raised his hand. "Just how far down does this bay go?" he asked.

"I've allocated a least a thousand meters on each side. I can adjust that as needed." replied The Doctor.

"That should be enough." replied Will.

"We will be bringing quite a few people along as well," added Captain Magumbo, "So we'll be bringing aboard almost a thousand chairs for all to sit during the transit. It may not be needed, but they'll take some time to bring aboard, so it'll be better than standing around."

"You're bringing a thousand people to the fleet?" asked Will.

"Not everyone will be remaining with the fleet when we return." said Colonel Mace. "We'll only have roughly two or three hundred volunteers who will stay after we're gone. We're bringing some extra temporary volunteer consultants to help with briefings regarding some of the supplies. In particular, we're bring several hundred tons of seeds for your agricultural ships; they'll need some consultants for those."

"Oh good, I was going to ask about seeds for our agro ships." replied Will. "And, it's a good idea to bring some experts to help our people use them at first."

Looking down both corridors, Martha asked, "Doctor, just how big is the TARDIS, anyway?"

"If I weren't to use a relative dimensional field at all," replied The Doctor, "The TARDIS would occupy a sphere with a diameter of roughly seventeen thousand kilometers across."

"Roughly?" asked Will, blinking, and The Doctor just nodded.

"And I thought it was something just seeing the control room." mused Martha.

"It seems everything about the TARDIS is big." said Captain Magumbo.

"We Time Lords didn't do things small." admitted The Doctor.

"Well, now that we have things squared away, we can begin loading." said Captain Magumbo. "That is, if you're ready, Doctor?"

"Indeed." replied The Doctor. "You may begin any time."

"I'll get on it then."

"But," said Francine, "Tish and I must return to our homes for the next week. I still have things to do."

"We'll provide you transport to and from the base." said Mace. "The Captain here will see to it."

"Come with me, and I'll get someone to send you home." said Magumbo.

"For the rest of you," said Mace, "We'll provide quarters while we load the TARDIS."

"What if I wish to see more of the sights?" asked Will.

"We'll get you transportation." said Mace, "You will still have access to the TARDIS in the meantime."

"At least we shouldn't have a repeat of the Vice matter." quipped Will.

"We won't." confirmed Mace. "Though, I must tell you, that many of the consultants being sent here originate from the U.S. Some, but not all."

"Good for security." replied Will. "I've learned since being here that this world is a split faction society, made up of many tribal units you call nations. How much of a cross-section of your world is being represented?"

"We're sending a significant cross-section overall." confirmed Mace. "Though, it might seem that many of the specialties may not be represented fairly. This is due to the fact that some nations have different specialties themselves. For instance, pilot candidates are mostly from the U.S., Russia, and the U.K., with other flight-capable nations making up the rest. Ground-based infantry is being sent from a more varied range of nations, with some nations such as the African nations, as well as a regiment of Sikhs from India. Though, some nations can't be represented at this time."

"You're planning on multiple trips to the fleet?" asked Will.

"We have plans for up to eight trips, and maybe more depending on what we learn from your commanding officer." said Mace.

Will turned to The Doctor. "And you're okay with this?" he asked.

"Your people need," replied The Doctor, "And, Martha and I can take some time from our travels to help."

"In that case," replied Will, "I'll be back among my people in about a week or so."

All three smiled.

Three days later, Will was going over shipping rosters with Captain Magumbo when Colonel Mace walked up with two other people.

"Lieutenant," he said, "I'd like to introduce you to two people. The woman is Major General Sarah Mackenzie of the United States Marine Corps. She'll be in overall charge of American forces during our visits." Will went to shake her hand, but she responded in the Colonial manner, forearms clasped.

"First off," said Mackenzie, "I must apologize for the situation involving Colonel Vice. He acted in an extreme manner which has since been dealt with. I understand his security clearance has been modified so he now serves on a base in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. He's now fourth in command of the base."

"He's still in a command role?" asked Will with an upraised eyebrow.

"It couldn't be helped." replied Mackenzie. "He has extensive command experience which it would be wrong to waste. Understand that he'll be well away from this operation from now on."

"I'll be grateful for that mercy." replied Will. "What is your nation supplying?"

"A lot of the materiel being loaded, as well a fair number of pilot candidates and ground combat personnel."

"I'm not sure where they'll be assigned, General Mackenzie. It could be in roles your people might consider minor."

"I understand there are no minor roles in your fleet?"

"Indeed. Even the specialists on the agro ships have an honored position. I've worked in a number of areas aside from Viper flying, including the agro ships."

"I'm sure we'll fit in nicely."

"This man," said Mace, pointing to the ornately-dressed male, "Is Colonel Joseph Bhinder, the commander of the Sikh regiment from India."

"My full name is Joseph Singh Bhinder. The middle name is spelled S-I-N-G-H." Colonel Bhinder said, extending his hand and shaking in the Colonial manner.

"I see." said Will.

"Colonel Bhinder has a famous grandfather." said Mace.

"Oh?" asked Will.

"My grandfather was Satwinder Singh Bhinder, first officer of Air India flight 182." said Bhinder.

"Before you ask Lieutenant," added Mace, "Air India flight 182 was blown up off the southern coast of Ireland in 1985."

"Blown up?" asked Will with upraised eyebrows. "A terrorist act?"

"Yes." confirmed Bhinder. "The group blamed for the act, Babbar Khalsa, has since been cracked down on."

"It's shocking to hear that sectarian violence can do such a thing." said Will. "Your family has my deepest sorrow over your loss."

"I thank you." said Bhinder, bowing slightly. "My troops have been assembled behind me, ready for your inspection."

Looking over Colonel Bhinder's shoulder, Will could see a number of similar-dressed men lined up. Nodding, Will said, "They look just nice. You may dismiss them any time, Colonel."

Nodding slightly again, Bhinder turned and dismissed his troops.

"Well," said Will, "I'm still working with Captain Magumbo on these shipping rosters. If you wish to leave, I won't detain you."

"My troops were dismissed to help with loading operations." said Bhinder. "I'll go and work with them." said Bhinder, nodding and turning to his troops.

"And my personnel are helping with loading as we speak." said Mackenzie. "Since we're sending materiel, I should consult with you on this."

"Alright, then." Will turned to Mace. "What about you?" he asked.

"I have some paperwork to tend to, so I'll leave you to your tasks." said Mace.

"See you soon." said Will, and Mace saluted and left.

Turning back to Magumbo and Mackenzie, Will nodded and said, "Let's get to it."

BSG

Five days later, Will stood in the cargo section of the TARDIS. Looking down each row of cargo, Will began the careful process of walking among each row, checking each securement for his own peace of mind. After walking around and returning to the front of the cargo bay, Will nodded to everyone assembled. With the officer of the deck giving orders for everyone to be seated, Will walked into the control room.

Reaching it, The Doctor looked at Will. "Everything okay, Will?" The Doctor asked. Will nodded. "Where should we go first?" asked The Doctor.

Thinking, Will replied, "Let's go back to my Viper. I should be able to reconstruct a course from there." The Doctor nodded and began to send the TARDIS on its way.

As the TARDIS began its move, Will looked around. In addition to Martha, her mother and sister, Colonel Mace and Captain Magumbo, as well as General Mackenzie, stood around watching with interest. Will also gazed around at the control room, and marveled at the biological-like construction.

The time rotor began moving up and down, then a few moments later stopped. The Doctor moved the monitor so Will could see his Viper drifting. Doing some course computations in his head, Will was about to reply when the TARDIS's control console began beeping. "What is it?" asked Will.

Moving the monitor so he could see it, The Doctor pressed a few buttons and replied, "It seems we have company nearby. It looks like a standard-sized freighter."

"Let me see." said Will, and The Doctor turned the monitor back so Will could see it. After a few moments, Will said, "It looks like a Cylon ship, possibly a freighter or tanker or even a transport. Can you get any form scans from inside?"

Pressing more buttons, The Doctor eventually replied, "It appears to be filled with humans, between one hundred to one hundred fifty in all."

Blinking a bit, Will replied, "Any signs of Cylon presence?"

Checking his readouts, The Doctor replied, "No sign of cybernetics on board."

Will straightened up. "Those are most likely people from our fleet, maybe even from the Colonies as well. We must rescue them!" Turning to the three military officers present, he added, "General, Colonel, Captain, prepare your people for boarding and rescue. Doctor, we must dock with that ship to get those people out."

Checking the monitor, The Doctor replied, "They have what appears to be a docking port on each side. We can't use our front door because of our current configuration. I did include side hatches for this configuration, and we can dock with those. I'll dock us on our right hand port."

"Then do it." said Will. "I'll be in on the boarding party." As he turned to go aft, the three Jones women wished him well. Reaching the cargo/personnel section he went to the right hand side hatch he saw earlier. Arriving, he was met by General Mackenzie.

"My people will board first, then we'll follow after the ship's been secured." she said, but Will shook his head.

"They are most likely Colonial citizens," he countered, "And will be more comfortable seeing a Colonial Warriors' uniform. I'll board first, with you at my side. The main boarding party will only go aboard after we've determined conditions."

Mackenzie nodded after a few moments. The Doctor's voice came in over the intercom. "I've achieved a hard dock, and we have a positive atmospheric seal. Let's try and make this quick, though." Will nodded to the man at the hatch, and he opened it within seconds. "This inner hatch design is unfamiliar to me." he said.

"Let me see if I can handle it." said Will. Stepping forward, he studied the hatch systems for several microns. Pressing a few buttons, he was rewarded with a pneumatic hiss, followed by the hatch parting in two, and sliding into the hatch frame.

It was followed by an odd odor.

"Phew!" said one soldier. "It smells like death!"

"It might be." replied Will. Looking at Mackenzie, he said, "Ready?" She nodded, and Will drew his sidearm and stepped into the Cylon ship.

The first thing he noticed was the cold, but Mackenzie literally shivered hard. "Don't the Cylons know how to keep their ships warm?" she asked.

"Being what you would call robots," answered Will, "The Cylons don't have any comprehension of thermal comfort." She grimaced at that.

"Besides," added Will, "The Cylons consider us humans to be garbage fit only for rapid disposal. Chew on that." She smiled weakly.

Looking in both directions, Will finally pointed and said, "The cargo hold should be this way." and they started walking in that direction.

BSG

Out in the TARDIS, Colonel Mace walked up with Captain Magumbo. "What's happening here?" he asked. "Why haven't you boarded yet?"

"Sir," said one sergeant, "The Lieutenant preferred to board first with General Mackenzie. He felt that a friendly uniform would allay fears from any of the people aboard."

"That makes sense." observed Magumbo.

"Agreed." said Mace, nodding. "The Captain and I will join them. Wait here until otherwise ordered." The two then entered the ship. Reaching the main corridor, they saw Will and Mackenzie and walked to join them.

As they reached the two, Will looked back to see them. "How close do you think we are?" asked Mace.

Looking ahead, Will said, "My guess is right behind this hatch." As Will reached the hatch, he pressed a few buttons, and the hatch slid aside with another hiss. Stepping through, Will was followed by the others.

They entered into a pit of misery. People were sitting around shivering from the cold, and most of them were sunken-eyed and sullen. Walking down the length of the people, Will looked at all of them, then holstered his weapon.

"I'm Lieutenant Will of the Colonial Defense Forces, assigned to Green Squadron of the Battlestar Galactica," he spoke, "Which of you will talk to us?"

One man stood up shakily. "I can speak. My name is Andrus, of Taura. We have quite a few wounded here."

"I see. We'll take care of you as quickly as we can." Will gestured behind him. "I take it these are the dead?"

"Yes." replied Andrus. "We've lost count, there are so many, but we estimate almost thirty."

Scanning the bodies, Will nodded. "Yes." he said "Between twenty-five and thirty. Let me introduce the others. The man is Colonel Mace, the dark woman is Captain Magumbo, and the other woman is General Mackenzie. Like I said, we're here to help. I'll lead those who can walk off this ship, then their troops will come aboard and help those left." Looking at Mace, he added. "After that we'll remove the bodies."

"Are you sure you want to do that?" asked Magumbo.

"I'm not leaving anything behind for those gall-monging tinheads." said Will. "Especially our dead." Mace and Magumbo nodded at that.

"Lord." breathed Mackenzie. "This is just like Auschwitz or Dachau."

"Right you are." replied Mace. "But help we will. Captain, go out and brief the troops." Magumbo walked out.

"All right," said Will, "If everyone who can walk will get up and follow me ..."

"Sir?" asked a voice from his right. Looking, he saw a young girl of about ten yahrens old. He knelt down and looked her in the eye. "Do I understand that you are from the Battlestar Galactica?" she asked.

"That's right." he replied.

"Maybe you know my daddy. His name is Orpheus. My name is Kianna. I understand he works in the command room, with the commander."

Thinking for a few moments, Will replied, "I can't say I know everyone who works in core command, but that may not mean anything. He may still be there. When we get in contact with the commander on the battlestar, I'll ask, okay?"

Kianna nodded. "In the meantime," Will added "let me carry you off this ship and to a place of warmth." Kianna extended her arms, and Will lifted her into his arms. Walking to the front of the compartment, Will looked back and said, "Colonel, General, do what you can until the troops arrive. Now everyone who can, follow me." About thirty to forty people stood up and started walking with Will. As they got about two-thirds down to the hatch juncture, a soldier rounded the bend, with two others appearing behind him.

"Back away," said Will, "I'm leading the ambulatory off the ship. After we've cleared, get your troops to the main hold and start helping the injured out." One soldier at the back motioned to others who had yet to board to stay back, then all three stood out of the way.

"We're getting blankets." said one soldier at the front. Will nodded and said, "Most of these people will go to the seating area." The soldiers nodded and Will led the people off the ship. As they emerged, soldiers started giving blankets out to everyone. Will took one and wrapped Kianna in it, then walked to the seating area.

As they arrived at the seating area, Will motioned to the seats. "All of you, take a seat." he said. "We'll get you some food and water shortly." As the people started sitting, he carried Kianna to the control room. Entering the control room, he set the girl down onto one of the seats present.

"We'll be contacting the battlestar from here, so I want you here in case we make contact with your father," he said to her, "So just sit tight. We'll also bring refreshments in for you shortly." She nodded, and he rose and walked over to the Jones women.

"Francine, I'd like you and Tish to go in back and help the troops with the survivors." he said. "But beware," he added, "General Mackenzie described the conditions on the Cylon ship as being akin to places known as Auschwitz and Dachau." Seeing the look in their eyes, he said, "From your reactions, I think it is safe to say you know what those places mean. You won't have to go aboard the ship, just help the survivors once they are in the seating area." They nodded and left to go back.

"Should I go back as well?" asked Martha.

Thinking, Will replied, "If you would go in back and get some food and water for the girl, that would help. And, remind the troops that we'll need a complete list of the survivors as soon as possible. After that, if you wish to stay and help your mother and sister, then do so." she nodded and went back. Will walked to the main control console next to The Doctor.

"What's the first step in finding the fleet?" asked The Doctor.

Thinking a few moments, Will replied, "Look for tubes of ionized gas moving unidirectionally at high speed."

As The Doctor began pressing buttons and twisting dials, the display panel in front showed space around the TARDIS. After a few more moments, the display showed a red line in space. "What do you think?" asked The Doctor.

"If I'm reading the distance correctly," replied Will, "This looks to be about right. Plot a jump to place us in the middle of the tube of gas at its point of origin. We'll run another scan when we get there and jump as many times as needed."

"What if we find that it's not your fleet?"

"Then we'll have to come back here and try again."

"I see." As The Doctor began setting up the jump, Martha walked in with the food and water for Kianna. Giving her the supplies, Martha walked over and said, "The list of survivors will take a few more minutes, Will. They're finishing bringing the bodies over, and then they'll close up so we can get underway." The Doctor perked up.

"You're recovering bodies as well?" he asked.

"Yes. I'm not leaving any humans, living or dead, for the Cylons to play with. Also, those dead people may have families in the fleet. If we can identify them, it might give the families some relief at knowing something." The Doctor and Martha both nodded at that reasoning. "I only wish," added Will, "That we could've salvaged the Cylon transport for resources. I'm afraid we'll just have to let it go."

"Well, at least we got the best part." remarked Martha, and Will nodded.

Captain Magumbo walked in and extended a sheaf of papers to Will. "Here's the list of survivors, Will." she said. "Thank you." replied Will as he began scanning the names. Apparently the first page proved useless and he handed the page to Martha. Scanning the second page, he blinked after a few moments.

"Annas." he said. "That name sounds familiar." he added.

"We also have one woman who is too catatonic to speak." said Magumbo. "None of the other survivors knows her name either." She added, and Will nodded at that. Finishing with the last two pages, he kept one page with him, giving the others to Martha.

Walking into the back area, he walked to the seats and called out. "Which of you is named Annas?" One man near the back stood up. "I'm Annas." he said.

"Are you the son of Boreus and Neria, from Gemini?" asked Will.

"Yes ..." the man replied warily.

"Annas, your father and mother are alive on the Gemini Freighter in the fleet of survivors." Annas seemed shaken at first, but recovered. "We have another matter to attend to here," added Will, "And after that, we'll take you to the control room so we can hopefully contact them right away. Why don't you stand with the captain here while we deal with our other matter." Annas nodded and went to stand next to Captain Magumbo. Looking at Magumbo, Will said, "Where's our unknown woman?"

Turning, Magumbo pointed to a woman with a thick hood over her head. Will stepped over and knelt down to look at her. Pulling the hood slightly back to look at her face, a shiver of possible recognition went down his spine. She turned to look at him without seeming to really see him.

"Ma'am," said Will gently, "Will you tell me your name?"

Shaking, she opened her mouth and without really speaking, seemed to mouth something. Will extended his ear to listen more closely and she whispered, "I ... la." Will jerked back in response.

"Ila?" he asked. "Siress Adama? Wife of he who commands the Battlestar Galactica?" She began shaking her head at that.

"No ..." she moaned. "He's dead! They're all dead! I have no one!"

"No ma'am!" replied Will. "I'm a Colonial Warrior! Look at my uniform, it's a warrior's battle uniform. And your husband is still alive." Turning slightly, he pointed to his left shoulder. "And my insignia, it's Battlestar Galactica, Green Squadron."

Taken aback, she looked at his uniform before replying, "They're alive? My husband? And my children? Apollo, Athena, and Zac?"

Thinking for a moment, Will answered, "Apollo and Athena are good friends of mine. But Zac, he's Apollo's little brother, right?" She nodded.

Sighing, Will continued, "I regret to inform you that he is most likely a casualty of the Cylons. And, you're now a grandmother. You'll have to talk to your husband about these things later." She nodded numbly.

Looking at Magumo, Will said, "What's her condition?"

"She's suffering badly from some older injuries, and had to be carried by two men from the Cylon ship. She's unable to walk." Turning to one of the soldiers, she added, "Sergeant! Get this woman a wheelchair!" The soldier nodded and trotted off. Another soldier walked up. "We're having some difficulty dealing with the Cylon hatch; we can't close it." he said, "What shall we do?"

"Is everyone off the ship?" asked Will, and the soldier nodded. "Then close our hatch, and let the odors vent into space after we've separated." he said. Looking at Magumbo, he added, "Another mystery to plague the Cylons." Magumbo smiled at that, and the soldier trotted off.

Looking back at Ila, Will said, "We're getting something to move you more easily into the control room. We'll contact the Galactica from there, and I want you there so you can talk to your husband right away." She nodded at that just as two soldiers pulled up with a folded wheelchair. After unfolding it, they moved it near to get Ila into it.

Looking to the soldier on the other side of Ila, Will said, "You take her far side, and I'll take her near side. We'll place her fireman's-style into the chair, and then I'll wheel her into the control room myself." The soldier nodded, and he and Will proceeded to lift her into the chair.

After settling Ila into the chair, Will asked her, "How's that?" "Fine." she replied. Looking, Will asked, "Did you finish all your food?" She shook her head at that. "I gave mine to someone else." she said. Will nodded in understanding.

"I'm sure we'll get you some more." He said. Looking at Magumbo and nodding, Magumbo nodded back and went to get more. Moving to the back of the wheelchair, Will took its handles and started moving her to the control room. Looking back, he added, "This way Annas." and Annas fell in behind Will.

As they entered the control room, Will parked Ila's wheelchair off to the right. Reminding her that she'll get some more food shortly, he directed Annas to another chair in the control. Moving to the control console, The Doctor quipped, "We seem to be suffering a population explosion."

"It couldn't be helped," said Will, "But I'll explain after everyone is here." The Doctor nodded at that. After a few more moments, Captain Magumbo entered the control room with Ila's food and water. Giving it to her, she walked over to Will and The Doctor.

"The hatch is closed," she said, "So we can move any time."

"Good." said Will. Looking around at Kianna and Annas, he asked if they wanted any more refreshments. Kianna asked for some more water, but Annas declined, so Will asked the captain to get some more water for the girl. The captain nodded and was leaving when Will had an idea. He called the captain back.

"Also, please brief the survivors of the sounds that will be made by the TARDIS's engines during movement. It will sound new to them, and we wouldn't want any problems." The captain nodded and left. A few more moments and General Mackenzie and Colonel Mace entered the control room. Taking their places nearby, they waited as they prepared to move.

Several more moments and Captain Magumbo entered the control room. "The survivors have been told of the sounds produced during movement," she said, "So we may do so at any time. I'll return to the cargo area to supervise the troops. The three Jones women are staying in back to help out." Will nodded and she left.

Looking around, Will said, "Colonel Mace, General Mackenzie, the three extra people here have families in the fleet. When we make contact with my command ship, we'll be notifying their relatives. You know of Kianna, and the older woman is my commanding officer's wife thought be have been lost three yahrens ago." Spotting The Doctor smiling, he added, "Don't gloat, Doctor. The man is named Annas, he also has family on another of the ships in the fleet."

"Ila, Kianna, Annas, the sounds made by this vehicle during movement might be alarming at first, but don't worry. It's a loud grinding sound, and seems to be normal for this vehicle." All three nodded understanding, and Will nodded at The Doctor.

"Here we go!" The Doctor called out, and the TARDIS began its move. All three Colonials glanced around at the sound, and Will could hear loud murmurs from in back, but all reactions to the sounds we brief as the grinding faded away.

"All right!" exclaimed The Doctor. Checking the monitor, he said, "And we're right in the middle of the ion tube. Let's do a scan." As he began the scan the display extended the red line farther out, but no dots indicating ships were shown.

"Empty." confirmed The Doctor, and began the process of jumping again. After the jump no dots were seen, as well as for several more jumps after. One jump yielded results later with several dots shown. After checking the readouts The Doctor confirmed that they were moving together. One jump placed the TARDIS roughtly one thousand kilometrons behind the last ship. Scans also confirmed more ships ahead, showing a group of ships in a convoy formation.

"Let's have a general profile scan of the last ship," said Will, and The Doctor adjusted the display to show the ship. Will nodded with a smile, "That's one of our ships all right," he said, "Now let's jump ahead in the fleet, but maintain a one hundred kilometron distance to the left." This jump yielded more ships, but they ended with room to spare at the front.

"Scan the biggest ship in front," said Will, And the display rewarded him with the alligator-like profiles of the Galactica. "It is my command ship," confirmed Will. As Will gazed at the lines, a beeping sound was heard from the console.

"The bigger ship in front is launching smaller, faster ships," said The Doctor, and Will nodded. "Tri-winged Vipers, just like my ship I'll wager. It's standard procedure for unknown vessels entering range of the fleet. Plus, the manner in which we arrived must have worried them. Let's try and contact the Galactica; it'll be a contact for the history books, for sure."

"Agreed." confirmed The Doctor, who began the contact. "Battlestar Galactica, this is the TARDIS, come in please. Battlestar Galactica, this is the TARDIS, come in please. We come in peace and mean your fleet no harm."

BSG

In core command on the Battlestar Galactica, Command Adama and Colonel Tigh looked at each other. "They're using FleetComLineAlpha!" exclaimed Tigh. "And how do they know us?" he added.

"Let's find out." replied Adama. "Omega, open the channel." As Omega pressed a few buttons, the display monitor resolved to show a thin dark-haired man wearing what looked like blue ill-fitting clothing. Adama spoke.

"I'm Commander Adama of the Battlestar Galactica. Standing next to me is my first officer, Colonel Tigh. Would you identify yourself please?"

"Commander Adama, I am The Doctor, pilot of the TARDIS. You may simply call me Doctor. It is good to meet you at last. I've heard quite a lot about you, and your son Apollo, daughter Athena, and grandson Boxey. Not to mention Rigel."

Taken slightly by shock, Adama finally replied, "That is interesting to hear. But I'd like to know how you know of us to begin with? And how you found us?"

"This is why." said The Doctor, who stepped aside, and was replaced by a familiar-looking warrior. Adama and Tigh stared wide-eyed.

"Will! Lieutenant Will! Is it really you?" Adama practically gasped out at the sight.

"Well commander," said Will, "If it's not me, I guess I should be arrested for impersonating myself, don't you think?"

"That's Will." said Tigh.

"And the colonel would know." replied Will. Seeming to glanced around him, Will added, "You can't get anything past that warrior." Will then grinned.

Adama broke into his own smile. "Will, what's going on here?"

"Commander, it comes down to four words: I Have Found Earth. On board the TARDIS is almost a thousand earthers who have come to our aid. They bring with them a load of supplies for the fleet, mostly food, water, and medical supplies along with earthly seeds for our agro ships. They also bring the location of their planet. Many of the earthers are volunteers who will be staying to help bolster our numbers. There are quite a few pilots among that group. I think it's safe to say that Apollo and Starbuck will be busy for the next few sectars getting these people up to speed."

Adama nodded numbly at that report. "Indeed." he finally said. Movement in front of him caught his eye. It was Rigel. She was standing with a look in her eyes. Adama nodded at her, and she moved to the command dais after getting her alternate to take over.

"And there's more commander. Some time ago, while we were getting our bearings near my spent Viper, we encountered a Cylon transport. It was carrying almost one hundred and fifty human survivors from the Colonies. We have them, as well as almost thirty bodies we recovered from the ship. Suffice it to say, most of the survivors will need some serious medical attention."

"I see." said Adama.

"I'd also like to discuss three of the survivors with you. One man has his parents on one of the ships; I'd like to contact them after we've ended this contact if you don't mind. As for another, I must ask if there is someone in core command named Orpheus." At this Omega perked up.

"That's my civilian name." said Omega.

"Omega, you're Orpheus? I only know of you as Omega, sorry about that. Give me a few moments and I'm sure you'll know this little lady." As Will moved off to the side, he returned shortly with a young girl. Omega gasped at the sight.

"Kianna?" he breathed. "Is it really you?"

"Daddy, it's me." said Kianna. "And it's really you."

"Yes, my daughter. Have you heard from anyone else?"

"Mother and Danae were with me for a while, but they didn't make it." she broke into tears at that.

"Don't worry Kianna," added Will, "You'll be with your daddy soon."

"He's right sweetie," confirmed Omega.

"Let me move to the next person," said Will, who moved off to the side again. Omega was blinking away tears when Will said, "Doctor, can the monitor be moved all the way over?" "It only swivels on its pedestal." replied The Doctor. "Alright then, I'll move her over. Give me a few microns, commander." he said out loud. Some shuffling was heard in the background, then a heavily hooded face was moved into view along with Will. Hands reached up to pulled back the hood. Adama and Tigh both turned white at the face they saw. Adama spoke.

"Ila? Ila my wife, is it you?"

"Yes, my husband, it's me."

"How? We looked as best as we could, but ...?"

"I ran from the attacks," she said, "But a bomb blast threw me into a grove of trees, which knocked me out for a while. When I came to, a Cylon ordered me to walk with some other prisoners. The bomb, coupled with the impact, must have injured my legs, because I couldn't walk. When the Cylon discovered this, he was about to kill me when two prisoners stepped forward and helped me to move."

"Commander," added Will, "The injuries she refers to have left her unable to walk. Doctor Salik may have some work to do before she can walk, so let him know about this." Adama nodded at that and continued.

"Ila, Apollo and Athena are fine, but Zac didn't make it. He was killed by the Cylons at Cimtar."

"I see." replied Ila. "At least two of my children still remain. I can thank the Lords of Kobol for that. But what's this about my being a grandmother?"

"Ah yes." breathed Adama. "Our grandson's name is Boxey. The son of Serina, she was killed by the Cylons just after she and Apollo were sealed."

"Sad." remarked Ila, pausing. "Serina the Journalator? I heard stories of her ..."

"We'll discuss everything in detail later." said Adama.

"Commander," continued Will, "The TARDIS can land in Alpha Bay as soon as you give the word. There are two main hatches to access upon landing. There is a front ramp with stairs which leads to the TARDIS's control room. Another cargo hatch can be extended down to allow many of the survivors and the cargo to be offloaded. Two additional hatches on the side can be used eventually, but those first two are the ones we'll most likely use the most."

"I'm also requesting that about two hundred chairs be set up around our landing area for temporary seating for the ambulatory survivors, as well as those who'll be taking their data down. The wounded can be offloaded as they are permitted, but we might want to have as much room as possible for medical personnel to use while they are still aboard the TARDIS. That area will need to be kept off-limits to all but non-essential personnel until everyone can be dealt with. And again, I'd like permission to contact the man's parents after we're done here; they're on the Gemini Freighter." Adama nodded at that report.

"Permission granted on the man's parents Will." he said. "And, there's someone here for you as well." Adama motioned at Rigel and she stepped into view. Will breathed in.

"Rigel my love, how I've missed you." he said.

Seeking the first words, she finally blurted out, "You're late!"

Laughing, Will replied, "Guilty at charged, wife. But, as my people's protectors would say, I'm claiming extenuating circumstances."

Laughing as well, she replied, "Understood." she paused in thought, then said, "I don't know what else to say."

"Then we'll talk later." said Will, "Until then." She nodded and backed away to allow the commander to finish. As Adama stepped forward, The Doctor took his place at the front of the monitor. "How do you wish to handle the landing, commander?" The Doctor asked.

"I'll have a trio of our Vipers escort you into Alpha landing bay." said Adama. "That's our left side landing bay. The Vipers will break off as you're lined up for final approach, then they'll land after you. Move your ship to the far front of the bay for a temporary quarantine zone. We'll need to check everything brought aboard as a precautionary rule, and everyone on your ship must go through decontamination as well. I'm sure you understand."

"Completely, and I know we're all in agreement on your procedures. As soon as your Vipers are in position, we'll follow them in. TARDIS out."

"Galactica out. End transmission Omega." As the view monitor faded to black, Tigh couldn't help his enthusiasm. "He's back! Your husband's back Rigel! And he's found Earth as well!"

"I remember some time back Colonel," said Omega, "How you joked about that."

"I guess that'll teach you." returned Adama, and Tigh just smiled and nodded.

During this time Athena walked up to the command dais. Placing her arms around Omega and Rigel she said, "Obviously good fortune smiles upon us all this time."

Rigel nodded, then turned to Adama. "Permission to resume my station sir?" she asked.

"Not this time." replied Adama. "You and Omega get to be part of the boarding party."

Rigel looked at Omega and they both beamed.

On the TARDIS, The Doctor turned to Will. "You want to contact the man's parents on the Gemini Freighter now?" he asked.

Will nodded, and The Doctor twiddled with some knobs. "This is The TARDIS calling the Gemini Freighter. TARDIS to Gemini Freighter, come in please."

Some static burst onto the monitor, then resolved to show another control room. Several people were sitting around, with one person in front. "TARDIS, this is the Gemini Freighter, go ahead."

"This is The Doctor. There's someone to talk with you here."

As Will stepped into view, he said, "Commanding officer of the Gemini Freighter, this is Lieutenant Will of the Battlestar Galactica. Would you please place me in contact with Beta Hold, Deck 2?"

"Stand by Lieutenant." The image on the monitor went to static for a few seconds. A new face appeared on the monitor, that of ship's security. "Beta Bay Two. How can I help you?"

"This is Lieutenant Will of the Battlestar Galactica. Would you ask that Boreus and Neria come to the monitor?"

"Stand by Lieutenant." The security officer spoke into a microphone. After he did, he looked to the side and said, "Someone's coming now Lieutenant."

After a few moments, a female face reached the monitor. "Hello Neria." said Will. "Where's your husband?"

"Will! It's good to see you! Boreus is mending some of our garments, so I came to the monitor. What is it?"

"You might want to summon your husband right now Neria."

"Why?"

"This is why." said Will, and motioned Annas to the monitor. Seeing who stepped next to Will, Neria's eyes got wide.

"Annas?" she gasped, then turned to the side. "BOREUS!" she screamed. "BOREUS! COME QUICKLY! ANNAS IS ALIVE! OUR SON IS ALIVE!" They watched as she started waving to the side for her husband to come, once then twice.

After a few moments, Will saw Boreus step slightly into view. "What's this about our son?" he asked, and Neria pointed to the monitor. Looking, his eyes got wide as well. "Annas?" he asked, his voice unsure.

"It's me dad." said Annas. "Thanks to Will here and his friends." Looking, Boreus saw Will. "Will ... how ...?" he asked breathlessly.

"I picked up some friends out there," said Will, "And while we were looking for the fleet, we came across a Cylon transport. We recovered almost one hundred and fifty survivors, and Annas was among them. I remember you talking about him when I visited your ship."

Boreus nodded, remembering. "This is great news." he said. "How soon ...?"

Will continued, "All personnel from this ship will have to undergo decontamination and quarantine before release. Roughly two-thirds of the survivors are wounded, but Annas seems to be mostly unharmed. After he's been medically checked out and released by the Galactica's medical staff, he should be on a shuttle to your ship shortly afterward. By my estimates, he should be back with you in maybe three cycles at the most." Boreus nodded and hugged his wife.

"We understand." said Boreus. "We'll be waiting. See you soon son." Neria waved and blew a kiss, and the contact ended.

Will looked at Annas, who seemed to be blinking back tears. "This is too good to be true." said Annas.

"Like I told the others," said Will, "You'll be with them soon." Annas nodded.

BSG

On the Gemini Freighter, Boreus and Neria turned and hugged each other for a few moments. Then turning back to the bay, they saw everyone looking at them.

"Is it true?" asked one woman. "You got your son back?"

"It's true." confirmed Boreus, with Neria nodding. "Lieutenant Will found some friends, and found some of our people, including our eldest son, alive on a Cylon ship."

"Will said," continued Neria, "That they recovered one hundred and fifty survivors. Perhaps others have family among them as well."

"One could only hope." said one man. "But, at least we can rejoice in one lost soul returning to the fold."

Boreus and Neria both nodded, then started walking to their cubical. As they did, everyone they passed smiled. As they reached their 'home', Boreus descended first, then helped his wife descend. They sat for several microns, Boreus with his arm around Neria, and Neria snuggled against her husband. Then they returned to their mending work, smiling all the way.

Back on the TARDIS, The Doctor said, "Three Vipers are moving into position."

"Hail the lead ship." replied Will.

"Viper trio, this is The Doctor."

"Doctor, this is Strike Captain Apollo. Let me talk to Will."

"I'm here, Apollo." replied Will.

"Good to hear you Will." said Apollo. "Now let's get you aboard the battlestar."

"Apollo, The Doctor here. Lead us in."

"Very good Doctor. I'll be in front. You're flanked by Starbuck and Boomer. Just follow my lead and do as the commander instructed."

"Understood. All the way to the front of the bay."

"Then here we go." replied Apollo.

As the three Vipers moved into position, the lead ship moved in the direction of the battlestar. Following along, the TARDIS was lined up with Alpha Bay on the left.

"TARDIS, Apollo. You're lined up for final approach. A few more microns and we'll break off to let you land, then we'll swing back around and land after you."

"TARDIS understands Apollo." replied The Doctor.

After a few microns, the lead Viper and the one on the right of the TARDIS peeled upward, while the left-hand Viper broke to the left. The TARDIS continued on into the landing bay, briefly shuddering from the atmospheric containment force field, then moved as far forward as possible. A deck hand wove lights continuously, then laid the lights onto the deck, signaling for a touchdown. The TARDIS set down, and the deck hand moved out of the bay. Watching from the rear-view cameras, they saw as the bay's doors were closed.

"TARDIS, this is Galactica core command. Welcome aboard."

"Thank you, Galactica. Initiating atmospheric pressure equalization." After a few microns, The Doctor added, "Pressure equalized. We'll lower the forward stairs on your word, core command."

"Understood, TARDIS. Stand by."

As they watched on the monitor, they saw deck crews placing the chairs around the bay. After that, several more people entered the bay, and the deck crews moved out of the bay. On the monitor, Will could see Commander Adama, with Apollo, Athena, Boxey, Omega, Doctor Salik and Cassiopeia, as well as Rigel.

"TARDIS, this is core command. You may open up when ready."

"Lowering the hatch." replied The Doctor.

As this happened, Will moved over to Kianna. "Ready?" he asked her, and she nodded. "Are you warm enough?" he asked, and she nodded again. "Here," he said, and lifted her onto his side, "I'll hand you to your daddy personally." Both smiled.

Moving back to the front of the control room, The Doctor had also moved the front doors to the open position, and they watched as Commander Adama entered the control room, followed by the others. The Doctor stepped forward.

"Commander Adama," he said, "I am The Doctor. Welcome aboard the TARDIS, all of you."

Stepping forward as well, Adama extended his hand and said, "It is good to meet you, Doctor." As Adama and The Doctor shook hands, Will stepped forward and Adama turned, extended his hand to him and said, "It's good to see you as well Will."

"One moment commander." said Will as he passed the commander and moved to Omega. Extending Kianna to him, Omega took her in his arms and they kissed each other. Looking at Will, Omega nodded and Will nodded back. Moving back to The Doctor's side, Will extended his hand and said, "First things first, right sir?"

"Indeed." replied Adama as Will shook hands with him. Looking slightly to his right, Adama inhaled sharply and moved to the wheelchair. Lowering himself to his knees, he intoned, "I thank the Lords Of Kobol that I might see this day, my wife."

"As do I, my husband." replied Ila. "I know I complained about your absences before, but from now on, I won't."

Apollo and Athena moved forward as well, and both hugged their mother warmly. Apollo gestured, and Boxey moved forward. Looking, Ila smiled at the boy.

"And this must be Boxey." she said. "Will has told me some things about you. What's this about following your father on a dangerous mission to an ice planet?"

Boxey rolled his eyes and looked at Will, who said, "I told her the basics, so now you can tell her the rest." Boxey looked back at his grandmother, and she continued.

"Your father used to worry me as well when he went to the Crimson Forest for centars at a time." she said. "I always thought he might be attacked by a lupus or an ursa. Did you get into trouble for that?"

"Yes." said Apollo. "And he was suitably punished afterward." Ila smiled and nodded, then hugged Boxey warmly.

Doctor Salik and Cassie moved forward, and Salik moved a medical scanner across Ila. Checking the readout, he said, "Cassie, it looks like we'll need at least two surgeries, one for her legs, and another for untreated rib injuries." Cassie nodded and jotted the data down.

Moving to Omega and Kianna, he passed the scanner up and down on her, checked the readout and replied, "You're okay Kianna, but your father should take you to Life Station for a complete checkout after decontamination." Omega nodded.

"You can take her now Omega." said Adama, and Omega left the front way.

As Omega and Kianna left, Rigel moved to Will. They both embraced. As they held each other, The Doctor continued.

"With us here in the control room is Colonel Mace and Captain Magumbo of the UNified Intelligence Taskforce of Earth or UNIT, as well as Major General Sarah Mackenzie, commander of the American forces sent to the fleet." he said. After all introductions had been made, The Doctor introduced the Jones women.

Francine then said, "Martha and Tish and I join in extending our joy at this reunion between you and your wife, commander."

"I thank the three of you." replied Adama.

Looking around the control room, Cassie said, "Is it me, or is the control room bigger than the ship?"

"It is you." replied Will with a broad smile. "Wait until you see the cargo bay. Come, Rigel." Taking her by the hand, he led her into the back area, as Apollo said, "There's more to this ship?" Will looked back, smiled, and said, "Follow us."

As Rigel and Will reached the back section of the TARDIS, Rigel looked left and right, then moved by herself slowly around the seating area. As the others moved into the bay, they looked left and right as well, all wide-eyed as the sight.

"By Sagan ..." said Apollo, with Adama shaking his head back and forth, saying, "How ...?" Will looked at The Doctor and said, "That's your cue."

The Doctor explained the workings of the TARDIS, and everyone just blinked several times.

"Doctor," said Salik, "Are you from Earth?"

"No," replied The Doctor, "I'm a Time Lord from a planet called Gallifrey."

"Your people must have created great wonders." said Adama. "Perhaps we could meet them some time." he added.

"If only that were possible." replied The Doctor.

"Why is that?" asked Adama.

"My planet was invaded by a great evil." said The Doctor. "In order to end this evil, my people decided to destroy Gallifrey along with the evil."

"But you're here." said Cassie.

"That's because someone had to pull the trigger." replied The Doctor.

After several moments consideration, Adama said, "After what you've done for us, you'll always be welcome among the Colonies. I'll even extend honorary citizenship for you, as well as diplomatic courtesies for those who are with you."

"Thank you." replied The Doctor.

"Doctor," said Apollo, "Just how big would the TARDIS be if you didn't use this 'Relative Dimensional Field'?"

"A sphere roughly seventeen thousand kilometrons wide, by your measurements."

All those who had boarded had their jaws drop or their eyes widen at that.

"I don't understand." said Ila. "Is there a problem with the size of this ship?"

"Let me put it this way Siress." said Will. "Keep in mind the size of this cargo bay. Then, when you've left this ship, look back at it and you'll see what we mean."

Blinking and shaking his head some more, Adama turned and said, "Doctor Salik, bring your medical teams in and begin working on the survivors."

Salik turned and said, "Cassie, begin scanning the survivors. I understand you've taken the bodies from the Cylon ship as well?" he asked.

"We have." confirmed Captain Magumbo. "If you'll follow me ...?" and she moved off in one direction with Doctor Salik following.

"Commander," said Will, "I ordered the removal of the bodies from the Cylon ship primarily because I didn't intend to leave anything for the Cylons, even our dead. Also, the dead may have relatives in the fleet. Closure is important."

"You are right Will." he replied.

"Let's move the women out first." said Will. "Athena, are you taking your mother?"

"Boxey will go with Athena while she takes her mother out ." replied Adama.

"All those not going down must stand outside of the outer yellow line." said The Doctor. "The inner line is for those descending." As everyone moved out of the line, Athena kept her mother inside the inner line, with Boxey next to her. Will turned to the survivors and called for all the women to stand on the platform.

"If any of you have husbands with you, they'll descend later." said Will. "Separations will only be as brief as possible."

As the women made their way to the lift, they scrunched in as best as they could. After all the women had been fit onto the lift, The Doctor pressed the button to lower the lift. When the lift made it to the deck level, The Doctor watched for a signal that the lift was clear. When the signal was given, The Doctor raised the lift for the men.

BSG

At the bottom of the lift, Athena waited for all the other ladies to depart the lift, then moved her mother out towards the decontamination booths. Reaching the corridor, Ila asked Athena to turn her chair back towards the TARDIS. Looking at the size of the ship, she simply said, "Oh."

"It is bigger on the inside." said Boxey.

"It is at that." confirmed Athena, then turned the chair back to the decon booths.

BSG

Since there were more men than ladies on the TARDIS, they took the men in two groups. After the chairs had been emptied, the crews began stacking them up for storage. After that had been done, medical teams began the process of sorting out the wounded, a process known as "triage".

During this process, everyone not needed for dealing with the wounded disembarked the TARDIS through the front hatch, Will included. Moving towards the decon booths, Will knew he was home. Though he was from Earth, his heart had taken the fleet as his home.

BSG

The next few centars went by fairly quickly for everyone. Since the survivors had to make arrangements for long-term living, the commander had delayed the meeting with the Council for two cycles. This would give the medical teams time to sort through everyone, as well as give the new arrivals a chance to get settled in with their new living areas. Will and Rigel were even granted some time to unwind.

Walking back into their quarters after late-cycle meal, Will went and sat down in his easy chair. After a few microns, Rigel came out from their sleep chamber in casual clothes. Settling into Will's lap, they held each other for some time. Will was feeling tired, so very tired. He lay his head back and closed his eyes. Pretty soon he had fallen asleep.

Rigel rose from Will's lap and walked to the main hatch leading to the corridor. Looking back she gazed at her husband for several microns.

"Sleep well, my husband," she said, "I'll see you soon ..."

Will slept on.

BSG

Waking with a start, Will realized he was cold. Looking around he found the heating controls and turned up the heat a few degrees. He also felt light-headed, so he checked out his Viper's carbide controls and adjusted them as well. He closed his eyes again, but a few moments later he jerked awake in surprise.

Wait, he thought, Was that just a carbide-induced dream?

As he found his bearings over the next few microns, a glowing shape began to form on his forward monitor. As it resolved into a coherent form he recognized it as the face of an old friend.

"John?" he asked. "What just happened?"

"We left you a vision of things that might come true in times to come." said John.

"And all those people I met? Were they real as well?"

"Some, but not all." replied John. "You will see some of them soon. We gave you this vision because you need to be reminded of your mission."

"John, I haven't forgotten." said Will. "Remember, we mortals only move so fast."

"Nevertheless," said John, "Things are going to happen quite fast now. The final pieces of the puzzle are falling into place. Soon you'll see the end of your journey. Remember our lessons to you, my friend. Morning is about to break, so I must leave you now."

And with that, the image of John faded from the monitor.

And as his monitor returned to normal, Will remembered.

Morning, said John. And always remember your teachings.

And he remembered ...

It's always the darkest before the dawn ...

So he sat in his Viper and waited.

And then it happened ...
