Moving was always stressful, much more so when you're an adult and you have to make sure everything is set up yourself. The apartment building a young woman named Koyuki Koneko moved into was within walking distance to the university she just got into and about only ten minutes from the café she got hired at. Heights Alliance, building A, known for renting to the university students. The entire first floor was the common area, holding the washers, dryers, lounging area, studying area, and a larger kitchen then the ones found in the individual apartments.
The owner of the building was a tired man with messy black hair, handing her the keys to the apartment he filed away her paperwork and she went upstairs. Room 207, on the second floor. It was just her and her neighbor in 208—who had a corner room—on the right side of the floor. Sliding her key into the lock she pushed the door open to her simple studio perfect size for one. The bathroom right next to the door on her left, a closet on her right, she had a little hall to walk through until she came to the small kitchen that had a thin counter separating it from the rest of the studio, a pair of bar stools sitting under the ledge. Stretching her arms above her head, the young woman pulled on the glass door and stepped out onto the concreate balcony into the fresh air.
"Hello baby." The young woman, Yuki, greeted the black cat that prodded up to her meowing at her. Taking a moment, she pet the friendly animal before returning to her new apartment and unpacking all the boxes her father had helped bring up. Tomorrow was her first day at the café, and she wanted her place set up and comfortable.
Showing up to work early Yuki was excited, yet still sleepy at three in the morning, to get started. She had worked as a barista before, her customers always favoring the drinks she made on the espresso machine. After the tour she was ready for her first customer, a tall young man with messy indigo hair that stood up and dark purple eyes that looked dead to the world. Speaking in a low voice that carried his exhaustion he ordered his drink.
"Name?" Yuki asked, putting the pitcher of milk on the steam wand.
"Pick one." He answered stepping out of line.
"He's known as Mind Jack." One of her coworkers spoke to her quickly. "Keep away from him, it's rumored that he's a bad guy."
"How do you know if the rumors are true?" Yuki challenged looking back at the purple haired boy and thinking of a name. Chuckling to herself she wrote a new nickname on the cup and started to pour the shots from the machine.
"I would rather not take the chance." The girl responded handing Yuki the cup with the flavoring for the order.
"I tend to not believe in rumors." Yuki argued constructing the drink and walking over to the counter where the purple boy was waiting. "Sleepless, your coffee." Turning around he looked up from his phone and made direct eye contact for the first time.
"Sleepless?" he asked with a crooked smirk.
"You said to pick a name. You don't like it?" taking the drink from her his smirk turned into a toothy smile.
"No, it suits me perfectly. Thanks."
Her shift was only four and a half hours long, most of her customers didn't stand out too much, but she was surprised to see Sleepless come back and order the last coffee of her shift. This time he looked a different kind of tired, a thin layer of sweat clinging to him like he just got done working out. Ordering the same coffee, he showed no signs of recognizing Yuki until she called out his new name. Smiling he meet her eyes again, gave his thanks and left.
