Dinner for Two

The rain could be heard outside of the house as it pelted against the window. The conditions would make anyone miserable if they chose to venture out into the downpour, and bring relief to those who had taken shelter in their dry homes. This was the case for a red feline sat in the living room, with a book in his lap and a cup of tea to the right side of his chair on a small plate. Below him, a spider crawled around on the floor before it came to the base of his foot. The cat looked down at the insect and merely gave it his usual stoic expression, though this time with a small grin given his fascination for the species.

"Aren't you something to look at", He said in what sounded like genuine admiration, which was something that was often a rarity coming from him.

One would definitely call him odd for being so interested in spiders, but this individual happened to be Katz, famous entrepreneur and mastermind, or at least that's what he told himself. The feline watched the spider crawl about for a few seconds before he returned to his book, occasionally thinking about whatever upcoming schemes he would try out, given his nature of doing shady business practices, as well as his tendency to enjoy the act of sadism when it came to looking down upon people.

"DINNER'S READY!" A voice rang from the kitchen, slightly startling Katz given how comfortable he had been in his current position. The feline sighed as he got up from the chair and stretched his back before his way over to the dining room to prepare himself for the meal.

"I wonder what flaming hot mystery will be served on today's menu", Katz murmured in a low tone, having a good idea of what was to be prepared by his so-called partner, seeing him step into the room, revealing it to be none other than Cajun. Katz could never explain properly how the fox came to live under his roof, personality-wise, he was the contrast to the feline. The vulpine was crazy as people would describe Katz, but in a more kooky manner compared to the cat's sadistic manner, Cajun had the tendency for creating some of the most odd dishes the feline had ever seen, it was practically the fox's trademark, in addition to his signature sunglasses which he had not taken off even indoors, something Katz had to roll his eyes about.

"Dinner is served, mon ami, I hope it'll be to yo' likin', I know you set them standards high", Cajun announced as he set the dish in front of Katz before setting his own down. That was another difference between the two males, Katz's voice was low and articulate with a posh English accent, Cajun's, by comparison, was higher in octave with a thick Southern accent, which seemed to compliment their respective mannerisms ironically enough. Katz looked down at the dish and he raised a brow.

"Pray tell, what is the dish that you've oh so pleasantly taken the time to concoct?" The feline quizzed in his usual manner that could be interpreted as either serious or sarcastic, though it seemed to fly over Cajun's head.

"This, sug, is my special jambalaya", the fox announced proudly, "I figured on a night like this, we needed somethin' that might help us warm up given all the rain."

"Well, aren't you the considerate one, it's not every day someone takes the weather into account for what's being prepared", Katz said, bordering on sounding like he meant it and being sarcastic once more.

"Ya' know, you could do with lightening up a little sometimes, especially when it's just the two of us", Cajun replied as he tilted his sunglasses down to reveal his eyes. Contrary to what was perceived, they weren't giant and bulging out, if anything, they looked similar to Katz's, only white compared to his yellow and with blue irises.

"You know being a ray of sunshine isn't my style," Katz replied dismissively before he raised his fork to put some of the meal in his mouth. He visibly shuddered as he felt his mouth heating up from the amount of spice that Cajun had put into the dish, giving out a sigh once it had gone down, "seems like kicking up the possibility of burning my tongue is still your style."

"Awwwww, c'mon, sug, you know you like the kick in it, I thought the big bad kitty could handle a little spice", Cajun teased, seemingly unafraid with how bold he was being, he had the pleasure being one of the few that could speak down at Katz without the risk of having his face clawed, given their status together.

"Your wit hasn't been lost on me, it's ironically something I can appreciate from what typically goes on outside", Katz admitted as the two continued to eat.

As they did so, Cajun noticed that the feline would occasionally rub his temples as if something were on his mind. This piqued the fox's interest as he waited until the two had finished eating and Katz was allowed to return to his chair. He had only just begun to read once more when he felt a pair of hands on his shoulders, looking behind to see that Cajun was rubbing them.

"What are you…" Katz tried to say, but cut himself off as the fox's paws proved to be doing their job, a purr escaping from the feline's throat as he laid back on the chair.

"Busy as usual, businessman?" Cajun cooed in the red cat's ear.

"You've no idea, always trying to find ways around the authorities, the stress that comes dealing with idiots, among...other things…" Katz purred, his eyes shifting through his description.

"Awwwwww, someone's had a hard time, haven't they?" Cajun quizzed sweetly as he switched positions on the chair, going from the back to the front as he came face to face with Katz. "Is there any way I could...help?"

"Believe it or not...there is…" Katz replied with a paw on the vulpine's chin, stroking it gently as the two leaned in, their noses touching one another before they exchanged contact with their lips, holding onto one another's arms as they did so. It transitioned into rubbing each other's backs as the kiss deepened, until they finally parted for breath.

"Feelin' betta', I know I am…" Cajun murred with a boop to Katz's nose as the feline gave a soft, low chuckle.

"You could say that, after all, even when life tends to be one cesspool after another, at least I know there's something of value that exists…" Katz replied as the two once again heard the rain still falling outside, but neither of them paid it any mind as they went back for another kiss inside the warmth of the house.
