AN: I have had request to do a modern day Bonanza story, about Adam, of course. So I am writing this chapter by caper, which I don't normally do, but have a lot going on right now, so decided to write a chapter a night while I am winding down and comfortable watching my Bonanza DVD's
If you don't like modern Bonanza, then you can go on to another story on here with the regular life as the Cartwrights know. And by the way, I have been warned about the 'trolls' that give reviews, or try to any way, so be ware, I BITE, and so does my little dog, 'Lillie,' little but mighty, no one picks on her Mama.
Chapter 1
I had been a long eight months for Adam. His wife of three years, Sadie, had died in a horrific accident and just about tore Adam apart along with it. The only thing that really saved him was their then, two and a half year old daughter, Luna Elizabeth, that he knew was now his sole responsibility .
Although it left him with a deep depression for eight months and was only at his office now and then as C.E.O. at Cartwright and sons Industry s, his brothers were handling most of the work including Adam's and Ben would pick up the slack where needed.
Now it was time for Adam to get back to his job at the firm and try to start to pick up his life again. For the sake of his daughter and his. He had gotten the clear from the doctor that his health was back to normal, there might be some flashbacks but nothing that he couldn't handle.
First, he had to try to find someone to watch his little girl through the day and he knew that wouldn't be hard because everyone loved her. He thought of asking Hiss's wife, Abby, she loved Luna Elizabeth and had helped out with her while Adam was in his eight months of darkness.

The first day Adam returned to the office full time he had to take Luna with him as he hadn't had a chance to talk to Abby as of yet...
"Okay, sweet girl, you're here with me today. I have your favorite toys, your blanket, snacks and we will go and have lunch together in the cafeteria. So, how does this sound?"
"Okay, daddy. Bu...where is my game pad?"
"Your...game pad? Luna, what are you talking about?"
"My game pad, daddy. I play games on it."
"Oh, okay. I had no idea you had that. Where do you keep it?"
"At auntie Abby's."
"Oh, well sweety, just for today do you think you could get along without it? I will ask Uncle Hoss to bring it here tomorrow with him...is that alright?"
"Yes, I guess so."
"Okay, good, now can you just play here quietly with these things that I did bring."
"Okay, daddy."...Just then a knock came on the door...
"Come in."
"Hey there big brother, Welcome back."
"Hello, Hoss, and thank you. I see I have a lot to get caught up on. I hear my secretary quit."
"Yah, she did. She just couldn't hang on here with half the pay she got when you were here."
"Well, I don't blame her for that. It must of been hard."
"Yah, it was. Oh...hello there Luna...what ya doin here?"
"I haven't had time to find a sitter for her yet. So, until I do, she has to stay here with me."
"Say, Adam, have you considered Abby ta look after her?"
"Yes, I did consider that. Do you think she would do it?"
"Of course she will. Abby loves Luna..." You could drop her off on your way in, in the mornings."
"Ah, Hoss, do you think maybe Abby would consider coming over to our place so that Luna can stay in her own home?"
"Well, I dono , Maybe...I'll ask her."
"Thank you, Hoss. Now, was there something else you came in here for, or just checking up on me?"
"Aw, Adam, you don't need no chcken up on you. We all know you will do just fine now."
"Well, thank you for your confidence. Now, I really should get busy and advertise for a new secretary."
"Yah, Okay, I'll let you get right on that now." ...Goodbye Luna."
"Bye Uncle Hoss."
