Author's Note: Hello everyone, originally posted this in ao3 under the name Vividly_Violet and decided to cross post in here of ffnet.
Minor spoiler warning for Yuuji's dad and some events from the flashback scene??? In ch 143 in later chapter of the fic but nothing has been revealed much anyway. This is just a made up scenario that wouldn't leave my brain and I wanted to write it. Very self-indulgent.
Also english isn't my first language so beware of wrong use of tenses and grammar.
Enjoy
Chapter 1: It's Just The End of a Long Long Day
It was supposed to be a fairly easy mission that any Grade 2 sorcerer could have done the job. But as easy as it was they were just too short of man power and so they called upon him, the strongest Jujutsu Sorcerer alive to check out and investigate why there was a huge concentration of cursed energy radiating from a forest just at the edge of Tokyo. It was beneath him, such a mundane and lowly mission but the old geezers at the top demanded him to handle it. Old fools, Gojo scoffed before stilling when he arrived at the destination. The old coots might not thought much of the mission and just threw it over his way to have him work rather than gallivanting all around Japan looking for the best sweets but maybe there's more to it, nothing escapes him though but the elders are surely going senile for not realizing how much there seems to be more to this.
"This is—" he trailed of, his nonchalant attitude shedding away as he surveyed the area. It was brimming with cursed energy, he could feel hundreds of curses crawling all over the place and one spot seems to be their destination. Without missing a beat he quickly disposed of all the creatures he encountered as he made his way in to the middle of the forest where he felt something more sinister, something far too different from the small fries he made quick work of. Just as he was upon a clearing a loud anguish cry was heard and a strong burst of energy came washing through the whole area, eradicating all the remaining gathering curses. Gojo quickened his steps since that voice sounded like that of a child. What was one doing here in the middle of the night? When he made it to the spot he was met with freshly killed curses slowly disintegrating but what caught his attention were the two figures slump together in the middle of the clearing. They both had matching pink hair, one appearing to be an adult whose body was saturated in blood and the other must have been the child he heard scream a while ago. Gojo slowly approached the bodies taking note of the shallow and ragged breathing of the older one, he knelt down and turned the body over. Dull and half lidded eyes greeted him. Alive, but not for long Gojo thought as he called upon his reverse curse technique only to stop and stare at the large gash that ran across the mans torso and the various more that littered his body.
"You—"
"Yuuji— my son save him. Please."
"He's unconscious but alive. Who are you?" Gojo asked after he quickly made sure that the kid was okay. He knew the man was running out of time and the man knew it too. As powerful as he was and capable of using reverse curse techniques to heal, the man's wound was too severe and extensive for him too do anything about it. He still hasn't refined the reverse curse technique as proficiently as Shoko had and this was something beyond his skill as of yet and thus leaving Satoru unable to help him. The older man let out a wet cough, blood spilling from his lips as he stared at the white haired sorcerer.
"Jin. Itadori Jin. Can you," another coughing fit. "Give me my son's hand, please." Gojo did so, wincing at the clamminess of the boys hand and the others growing colder one. But something caught his attention. He stared in shock at the boy. That couldn't be. Why—
"You noticed." the man stated, "as expected from the user of the six eyes."
"How'd you—"
"I don't have much t-time take him. Keep him a secret. What he is and who he is. I made a mistake and now my precious boy is paying for it. I'm a dead man, you can see it too right?"
"Wait— wait just a sec, you're not pawing off your kid to me are you?" Gojo scratched his head, "I'm too young to be having to take care of some brat and I don't need my six eyes to see and tell you you're knocking on death's door ossan," Jin chuckled wetly.
"Tell me something I don't know." the man said and if he were capable he would've been rolling his eyes at the teens remark, "I know I'm a stranger and I know you can tell what my Yuuji is, but can you do a dead man a favor?"
"Mah~ why not?" replied Gojo, thinking it over and shoulder set in to a shrug "I'm always open for ways to mess with the higher ups in anyway I can. Other than keeping mum about all this is there anything else? This Great Gojo Satoru is feeling benevolent today."
"Look for my father, he'll tell you what he can. Just keep Yuuji out of anything Jujutsu or curses related. Tell him I love him and—" Jin paused a choked sobbed escaped him as he squeezed the small hands in his briefly.
"and?"
"Destroy my body till nothing is left." Satoru stared at the older mans final request, a question forming at the tip of his tongue. "keep everything that happened here a secret and destroy me here." the two of them stared at each other and Gojo sighed. He might not understand the sudden turn of events yet but with the utter conviction the other man has it was hard not to be persuaded. Not asking questions will surely bite him in the ass but he'll handle it when it turns up, he is after all the strongest so whatever happens next he'll surely be able to deal with.
"Fine, fine. You know someday I'm gonna make your son pay for this... somehow." Gojo joked but Jin wasn't paying attention to him anymore, instead he was entirely focused on the smaller spitting image of his. He carefully curled himself around the still unconscious child, one hand carding against the familiar shades of pink tresses. "Yuuji baby, I'm sorry. Papa's not going to be around anymore," Satoru crept away from the two giving the father a small semblance of privacy as he said his final goodbyes.
"I'm sorry for everything," Jin choked out hoarsely "Ne~ Yuuji when you grow up, grow up to be big and strong and kind okay? It's going to be hard, you probably will have a lot of questions and I won't be there to answer it, you'll probably even hate me, hate mama and hate the world but don't okay? Grow up and make many friends, grow up and be happy, for me okay. I'm being a bit selfish here but all I want is for you to grow up and be happy okay. I love you so much, Yuuji, I love you. Never doubt that Papa loves you." Jin broke down in to sobs and along with it so did the sky as the soft pitter pattering of raindrops fell in to the ground. Just as when Gojo thought the man has passed away at the sudden silence he heard a gentle shushing, the kid might have been stirring awake Gojo thought and Jins hoarse and soft voice began again into a song.
Close your eyes, it's okay
It's just the end of a long long day
Go to sleep, everything's alright
And I'll sing a lullaby
Close your eyes and drift away
It's just the end of a long long day
But anytime the world's not right
You can sing this lullaby...
Gojo, stood near vigil as he bare witness to the final moments between father and son. When Jins voice tapered off, Satoru knelt down to check on the mans pulse. It was gone. The white haired sorcerer wondered how the older man managed to pass on with a smile on his face after the tragedy surrounding his death and how that man placed his sons life in the hands of a complete stranger. Why is it that dying fathers tend to entrust their children to him? He's barely out of his teens and yet this was the second one, not that he had gone and checked on the first one yet. He's still a bit bitter about his last encounter with that man and seeing his offspring wasn't something he was looking forward too. Whatever. Sighing, Gojo slowly extracted the young child from his father's cold hold and hoisted him up his back. After securing Yuuji and offering a short prayer he readied aka and ao and fired off murasaki. It was a spectacle to be seen too bad no one was there to witness the complete and magnificent evisceration of everything in its path. Not a single soul stirred at the aftermath and nothing left remained at the spot where Itadori Jin laid.
Adjusting his load on his back, Gojo transported himself away from the wreckage and appeared right inside his bedroom to deposit his cargo on the bed. He stared at the child pondering what's next. He picked up his phone and dialed a number.
"Ijichi~" he sing-songed, "Yes, yes I know what time it is." no he doesn't, "Ne~ I need you to do me a favor, search for any remaining relatives of one Itadori Jin will you?... Mah~ you don't need to know why... appreciate your hardwork! and oh keep this just between us will you?"
"Don't panic, you won't get into trouble. Bye-bye~" and with that Satoru ended the call cutting off whatever Ijichi had to say.
"Now what to do next?" a small adorable sneeze came from the damp lump on the bed. "Maybe a change of clothes first, then whatever else 'til the morning comes."
To be continued~
End Note: The fic title, chapter title and song Jin is singing is from a song called A Lullaby.
