Reina was glad she decided to drive her motorcycle now. Being jammed in the backseat of a sedan with Natasha and Sitwell was not very high on her list. She kept a good amount of distance between herself and the grey sedan, her eyes scanning the road.
The black hummer sped past her, Reina glancing to it. The windows were pitch black. Reina's eyes narrowed, keeping an eye on the hummer as it sped ahead.
"Guys?" Reina asked.
There was no response. She looked forward, watching the cars swerving to avoid something. She heard a crash, car hitting car. Tires squealed ahead.
"Guys?!" Reina shouted louder.
"It's him!"
She heard Natasha's voice. The Winter Soldier.
Reina sped up, looking ahead to the overturned grey sedan then to the black hummer as it stopped. The gunmen filed out of the car, Reina's eyes locking on the Winter Soldier. She breathed in, revving the engine then spun the bike to the side. She slammed into him, the soldier being flung forward. Reina rolled against the asphalt, rolling to her feet. She looked back, the soldier slowly standing. The man handed him the grenade launcher as he stalked forward, loading it. He aimed it at her, firing. Steve raced in front of her, holding up the shield.
The explosion rang out, the force throwing Steve and Reina over the bridge. Reina flew through the air, slamming into the boom truck then rolling to a stop. She heard the collision, people screaming. She rolled over, grimacing as every bone in her body seemed to ache. Nothing felt broken, thankfully. She looked around, trying to get her bearings.
"Reina!"
She heard the gunshots ringing out, dodging behind the boom truck. Natasha raced alongside her, pressing her back to the truck.
"Reina" She breathed. "Where's Steve?"
"I dunno" Reina shook her head, ducking as more fire came down. "We gotta move"
Reina pulled out her handgun, peering over the hood to the group on the bridge. She watched as the soldier leaped down, landing on the car roof then stalked forward.
"Nat, go" Reina pushed Natasha forward as she raced off.
Reina breathed in, ducking back down as she raced to the other end of the truck. She watched the shadow, spinning from her hiding spot as she lifted the gun. The metal hand wrapped around her wrist, squeezing tightly as it made her release the gun. She brought her other elbow up, bashing it across the soldiers face. He landed a powerful kick to her gut, sending her flying back into the truck. Reina pulled out the Taser disk, throwing it as it latched onto the Soldiers arm. The electricity ran through him, his arm going limp. Reina landed a punch to his chest, forcing him back a few steps then took off running.
Reina raced past the cars, the hand reaching out and grabbing her. She lifted her gun, Natasha raising her hand.
"It's me" Natasha breathed. "What's the plan?"
"Don't have one" Reina reloaded her gun. "Don't die, I guess?"
Reina heard the sound of metal rolling across the ground. She pushed Natasha aside.
"Run!" Reina yelled, kicking the metal ball away.
It exploded in the air, sending Reina crashing back against the car. She looked back as the shot rang out, watching Nat hit the ground. Natasha scrambled behind the car for cover, Reina looking up as the soldier leaped on top of the car and aimed his gun at her.
Reina grimaced, pushing from the car as she ran forward. Steve barreled past her, jumping onto the hood of the car as he held up the shield. The soldier lowered them gun, punching the shield as the hit rang out like a bell. The soldier shoved it aside, landing a kick in Steve's gut that blasted him backwards. The soldier pulled his gun up, shooting as Steve hid behind the shield. The soldier discarded the rifle, rolling off the car and pulled the handgun out.
Steve rolled, holding the shield as he deflected the bullets. Reina leaped onto the car hood, flipping off it as she kicked the gun from the soldier's hand. She landed a punch, the soldier grabbing her by her jacket and tossing her away. She landed, rolling and looked up at the soldier holding Steve's shield. He threw it at Steve, Steve barely missing it as he ran at the soldier. Reina quickly stood, catching the shield as she spun from the momentum.
She watched the two exchange blows, neither getting an upper hand on the other. The soldier grabbed Steve around the neck, his metal arm whirling as it brought him forward and shoved him back. Steve flipped over the car's hood, landing on his back. The soldier leaping onto the hood as he drew his arm back. Reina let the shield fly, it bouncing off the soldier's chest as he was flung back away. The shield returned, Reina catching it and running forward. The soldier stood, shaking off the hit. Reina threw the shield again, this time the soldier catching it. Reina brought her knee up, using her full body weight to slam the soldier into the side of the van. The shield clattered to the ground beside them. Reina blocked the soldier's punches, Reina moving to the side as he slammed into the van. She grabbed him around the waist, lifting him and slamming him back against the ground. She rolled to her feet, falling back as the soldier kicked her in the stomach. He pulled the knife out, slashing it as Reina rolled.
They stood, Steve bashing the shield against the soldier's back. The soldier doubled over, quickly recovering as he set his sight on Steve. The soldier jabbed the knife forward, Steve ducking then grabbing ahold of the soldier's metal wrist. He jammed the edge of the shield into his forearm, the metal plates breaking. Steve yanked it out, throwing it up as it hit the soldier in the face. Steve spun, grabbing the soldier's face from behind and threw him over his shoulder. The soldier flipped through the air, landing on his shoulder and rolling to his feet. The black mask fell to the ground, Reina looking at the soldier.
Reina stopped, everything seeming to go silent. It was like she was frozen in time. She was staring at those all too familiar blue eyes. They were different, vacant, but Reina knew them.
"Bucky?" Steve asked quietly.
Reina breathed out, examining the man before her. It couldn't be him. There was no way.
"Who the hell is Bucky?" He asked, aiming the gun at them.
Reina flinched, getting ready to dodge as Sam flew up. He yelled, slamming his body into Bucky and knocked him away. Sam landed, the Falcon wings slowly folding shut. Bucky stood, both Reina and Steve too stunned to move.
Reina watched him, seeing the way he looked at them. There was confusion in his face, questions. He steeled himself, aiming the gun again. Reina and Steve heard the shot, ducking as the grenade flew over their heads. The explosion rang out, the smoke and dust falling. Reina looked back to Natasha as she dropped the gun, quickly looking to the empty spot where Bucky had just stood.
"Steve?" Reina asked quietly.
"I know" Was all he said.
They heard the sirens, watching the black SUVs pulling up around them. The strike team poured out, aiming the guns at them. They yelled, Reina slowly lifting her arms up in surrender. An officer grabbed her wrist, kicking the back of her knee as it forced her to the ground.
!
Reina sat in the back of the armored truck, her legs and arms bound in steel traps. She sat silently, her eyes trained at the floor as she tried to figure out what had just occurred.
"It was him" Steve's voice was soft, Reina lifting her gaze to him. "He looked right at us, Reina, and it was like he didn't even know us…"
"How's that even possible? It was like seventy years ago…" Sam shook his head.
"Yea, well. I'm living proof that doesn't matter…" Reina shook her head. "…It was Zola"
Reina looked to Steve. "Remember, back in '43, when we were captured?"
Steve gave a short nod. "The experiments…"
"They must have found him…" Reina grimaced, wishing she could bury her face into her hands. "They found him…and he was alive…"
Reina had searched for weeks. Always coming up empty. If she had found him first…
"None of that's your fault…"
Reina listened to Natasha's voice. It was groggy, like she was trying to stay awake. Then, Reina remember her gunshot wound.
"We need a doctor here" Sam raised his voice to the two armored guards sitting at the back of the truck. "We don't put pressure on that wound she's gonna bleed out here in the truck"
The guard pulled out the electric rod, the electricity zapping. Sam flinched, the guard stabbing the rod into the other guard's chest. The guard dropped to the ground, the first guard pulling the helmet off. Maria Hill sighed, brushing her hair back.
"Ah…that thing was squeezing my brain…" Hill glanced to Sam, peering to Steve. "Who's this guy?"
"Can we save the introductions?" Reina asked.
Hill nodded, pulling the Mouse Hole device out.
"Let's get going"
