This is how the Rage Room scene should have been written. It should have been Anna and Robert!
Anna sat at home brooding about not being able to get Peter. She still couldn't believe she let Peter hurt people she loved. She tried to make everyone see the good side of Peter but that side really didn't exist. She paced around the room beating herself up trying to figure out a plan to make amends for what she did to Maxie and her dear friend Felicia. Peter needed to be stopped and she needed to repair the damage she created by believing in him.
Anna poured herself a drink and sank into the sofa. Then, there was a knock at the door. She grumpily got up with her drink in hand to answer the door. She opened the door to find Robert grinning from ear to ear.
"Hello, love" he said.
Anna scowled at him. "What do you want?"
"I just came to check on you," he said.
"I am not good company right now, Robert."
"That's ok, I am here to help, my dear." he said with his usual devilish grin. As he pushed his way in the door.
"Oh, Robert, just don't. Leave me to my brooding...I will get over it soon."
"Now, now, Robin wouldn't let you get away with that attitude." He said.
"I have the perfect solution for your problem. Go get changed into some comfy clothes and you are coming with me." She gave him a killer stare that he had seen many times before. He knew this was gonna be rough trying to get her to come with him. Thus, he turned on the charm.
"C'mon, darling, I promise this will do you some good."
"Robert, I just want to stay home." she whined.
"Sweetie, please. What I have planned for you will ease all the pressure you are feeling, I promise." He walked over to her and stared here right in the eyes and as close as he could get without her clocking him.
"Pretty, please Anna….come with me." He gave her the puppy dog eyes and a sexy Scorpio smile. "Do it for the Grandkids...they wouldn't want to see you like this." He walked behind her and nudged her toward the stairs.
"You can do it, Anna, upstairs you go. Please go change clothes." She still eyeballed him and grumbled as she walked up the stairs stomping all the way to the top. She came back down the stairs slowly.
"Do we really have to do this, Robert? She said with her head hanging down at the bottom of the stairs. He came up on her side and snaked his arm around her gently and started walking to the door.
"C'mon, honey, let's go." He smiled at her. In the car, she began interrogating him.
"Where are we going, Robert?"
'"Patience, love. We'll be there in a few."
She grumbled under her breath …"whatever."
Robert is the only one she would have left the house for in this state. He knew her best and she knew if anyone could pull her out of this funk, it was him. Even though they had drifted apart over the years, she often yearned to be near him in times of stress. He always managed to make things better with a look, a joke, a memory or his touch. They pulled into the parking lot and she saw the sign. Rage Room. A big red sign with bold white letters.
'What is this place, Robert?"
"Just keep your knickers on, you'll see in a second."
They got out of the car and headed inside. Anna continued to mumble under her breath in frustration.
"Zip it, Anna." I promise you will feel better in the next 30 minutes. He grinned at her and winked. They were greeted at the door by a young man.
"We have a reservation, under Scorpio" he said.
"Yep, I see it right here. Here is your protective equipment and your rage tools." Robert grabbed his protective equipment and started to put it on. Anna looked at him, with a pouty face.
"You are kidding me, right, Robert…I don't need this."
"Yes, you do need this. Put on your gear, tick tock, tick tock." He pointed at his watch. She slowly moved aside to put on her gear still grumbling under her breath.
"What smashing tool do you want?" He asked.
"I am gonna smash you, Robert."
"That's the sprint Anna, but you're not smashing me for a change." He chuckled.
"Use this time to vent 35 years of frustration! Think back to all of the people that have messed up our lives and, of course "Pain in the ass, Peter!" Robert grabbed the crow bar and led her to the Rage Room.
"Pick your weapon of choice, Granny and let's go" he said with a giant cheesy grin. She rolled her eyes and grabbed a sledgehammer and they went inside.
"I'll go first." He said.
Robert took the crow bar to a tall old fashioned speaker nearby. He smashed it and bellowed "This one is for you, Faison. And you too, Julian Jerome. And Sean, why did you have to die on us."
He looked at Anna and she had a tear in her eye. They missed Sean so much. She looked at a pile of electronics nearby and looked at Robert. He could see she was finally getting it and her gears were turning. She walked over to the electronics pile, put her protective shield down and wound up. She then took a giant swing at the pile and absolutely crushed it. She felt empowered and grunted and swung two more times to decimate the pile.
"That's my girl, Anna. Give 'em hell!"
The sledge hammer was kind of heavy so she dropped it and took Robert's crow bar and smiled. "Cmon, Grandpa, let's do this." Robert grabbed the aluminum baseball bat nearby and they began to smash the hell out of everything in the room. Between the grunts and screams, they bellowed the names of all the people that had wronged them like Olivia Jerome, Obrect, Jerry Jax and more. Robert even threw in some for Robin. He smashed a 40" TV.
"Damn you colon cancer and you to HIV!"
Anna continued to smash and smash. Then she found an old retail dummy. She wound up as far as she could and swung at the chest of the mannequin.
"This one is for you Pee-Tah!" in her strong British accent. The dummy went flying. She smiled from ear to ear at Robert. She went to where the dummy landed and smashed it to pieces. She gave Robert a high five with a smile that could light up the room. Only he would think of something like this to make her feel better. Oh, how deep down she really missed their connection and history. Only he could read how she truly feels and she could truly be herself with him.
"Maybe you were right, Robert."
"Whoa...did I hear that correctly? You never say I am right." She was sweating now and wiped sweat off her forehead.
"My badass Anna is back!" He smiled at her.
"Ok, Robert...this is exactly what I needed. I was able to work off some of my frustrations without hurting anyone with my grumpy demeanor that seems to be my permanent mood these days. I am not going to let Peter win."
She pulled up her shield and then pulled up Robert's shield and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"Robert, you are the best. Thank you for helping me find myself again."
"Anna, you mean the world to me and I don't want you to continue to beat yourself up for choices that were rooted in love. Just like everyone else, he fooled you into believing he was someone that he wasn't."
"You're right again, Robert."
"Whoa, two times in one night. Can you say that again so I can record it?"
They laughed and looked deep into each other's eyes, glad to be doing this together. That is when they are at their best, working together. He felt a pang of attraction to her right then. She looked like she always looked when they beat the bad guys. She was as sexy as all hell. It's when he fell in love with her. She was still as beautiful as ever. He grabbed her hand.
"Let's get out of here." They headed toward the counter to return their gear.
"It felt like 35 years ago for a split second there" He said.
She smiled. She could feel it too. He meant so much to her. He always knew what she needed. And this was it. They returned their gear and headed back to Anna's. They pulled in the driveway. Anna looked at Robert.
Would you like to come in for a night cap and wind down?
"Sure, love. Sounds perfect."
"You go change and let's meet back at the sofa." he said.
Anna went back upstairs and thought back about the last hour and was so grateful for Robert dragging her to the Rage Room. It was exactly what she needed. She felt a longing to be near Robert that she hadn't felt in a really long time. She went downstairs and Robert was pouring the drinks. She walked over to him and stood really close behind him and whispered in his ear.
"Thank you, Robert. Tonight was exactly what I needed." He turned around and kissed her on the cheek.
"Sweetheart, it was my pleasure. It did me some good as well." He smirked.
Anna was in silk pajamas and ready to relax for the evening. Robert thought she looked as beautiful as ever.
"You know, Robert. We have been through a lot together. You know me so well. How did you know I needed that tonight?"
"I just did. You are a part of me. If you hurt, I hurt." Anna looked at Robert and with a happy smile so grateful he was still in her life and that she did not marry Finn. Deep down, they knew they both still loved each other but couldn't make it work in the past. But maybe now that they are older and wiser, it would work. Having more normal lives might simplify things she thought.
Anna took her drink from Robert and went to look out the patio window. She sighed deeply. Robert knew she was brooding again.
"Stop it, Anna" he said. What? She replied.
"You are brooding again."
"I know Robert, I can't help it."
"C'mon sweetheart, stop beating yourself up."
"I know, I know I'll stop." She touched his hand as is if to thank him again without saying the words. He loved her touch. It always calmed him and gave him such peace. He reached for her hand and squeezed it tightly. "This will all be over soon. Hang on tight as long as you need."
"Oh Robert, how do you always know what I need?
He winked at her. "Babe, I have 35 years of experience to lean on." She smiled back at him.
"I guess you do."
"Let's switch gears and not think about Peter for a while. Think about something good like finding out Robin was alive."
"Yes, let's do that." she said.
"We were at Windermere and I was up stairs searching all the rooms. I burst into one of the bedrooms and there she was. I couldn't believe it. We hugged like there was no tomorrow. It was the best feeling ever. I couldn't wait for you to see her." Robert said.
"Then when we were downstairs and you had your reunion. Do you remember?"
"Of course. I remember. It was the best day of my life after giving birth to her and marrying you."
"Marrying me ranks right up there, eh? "Yes, it does, both times." She smiled at him.
"Twice is better than once. Should we shoot for 3?" He grinned and chuckled.
"Oh, Robert, stop."
"I know, love. I'm just kidding." But he wasn't kidding. He thought of her often and was so glad the wedding to Finn didn't happen. His life was so empty these days, just boring court cases. Robin and the grand kids were so far away. She was part of his soul. He needed her and he finally realized that now that all the adventures were done. He could see that she completed him and made him whole. She knew the real Robert more than anyone. Their history was bumpy but amazing. They just let the world drama get in the way of them being happy together. They both had gone quiet for a bit. She could tell he was the one a million miles away now.
"Earth to Robert" she said.
"What?" he replied.
"Where did you go?"
"I was just reliving all of our adventures together and thinking about how much you mean to me. He looked deep into her eyes.
"This is where I belong...with you." He said with a soft voice.
"Robert, I thought you said you weren't carrying a torch for me when I was marrying Finn."
"I thought I wasn't, but it did really, really bother me that you were marrying Finn."
"Oh, Robert."
"I always put work above all my feelings and my personal life. Once I got to the hum drum life as the DA, it became clear that I truly missed you in my life as a partner in more than crime fighting. But, by that time you were already involved with Finn. I tried to slow things down by hijacking his ring as long as I could but knew the marriage was inevitable. So, I am grateful to Peter for one thing at least." He smiled.
She slid down the sofa closer to him all the while staring deep into his blue eyes.
"Wow, Robert, I had no idea you felt this way."
"I know. I didn't want to ruin your happiness."
She grabbed his hand that she had held so many times before and looked at him and explained in a soft voice.
"Well...I was kinda glad the wedding didn't happen either."
"What, really?"
"Yea, well you see...I started having doubts after we accepted the whole double wedding thing and there was no easy way to back out. You know how headstrong Maxie is. Finn just didn't understand the real me like you do. He didn't understand the whole Peter and Alex stuff. But you did, kinda. You let me have my time and space but kept up to speed from a distance. Finn just kept riding me about it. I started to pull away then. But the whole wedding thing was in full motion and I don't think either of us knew how to stop it. So, I guess I am grateful to the whole Peter fiasco wedding, too."
He put his arm around her and pulled her close. She laid her head on his shoulder and breathed him in. This was where she belonged, in the arms of the man she had loved all her life. He let out a deep sigh because it was like a weight had been lifted off him. He finally told her how he felt and she amazingly felt the same. He took her hand and intertwined their fingers. Their intertwined fingers were a symbol of their lives. Linked together forever. Their adventures, their friendship, their love and their daughter. Nothing would separate them now.
They both looked at each other with a sort of peace they hadn't felt in years, even decades. Robert took her face in his hands and kissed her gently. He pulled away and looked at her.
"Is this real? You still love me, too?"
"Yes, I do love you, Robert Scorpio. Tonight at the Rage Room I realized you are the only man who truly knows me and understands me. I need you, Robert. We are it for each other. I think I knew that deep down but didn't want to admit it either. He grabbed her and kissed her again. He was so happy.
"I love you, Anna Devane." They kissed harder than they ever kissed. Almost like they were catching up for all those years apart. They stood up and continued to kiss and hold each other like they never wanted to let go ever again.
"Should we take this upstairs? She said with a raised eyebrow.
"I thought you would never ask, darling."
He grabbed her hand and led her to the bedroom.
They made love for the first time in decades but it was like no years had passed. Their bodies fit like a perfect puzzle that was finally solved. They fell asleep in each other's arms.
The next morning Robert was awake first. He laid there staring at this beautiful woman laying next him. His woman. The woman that made him the man he is today. The woman that made him a father. The woman that challenged him in every way. The woman that he had loved his whole life was finally his again.
He felt her stir.
"Morning, love."
"Morning, Robert," she said softly. Smiling from ear to ear.
"Wow. we haven't done this for a long, long time." she chuckled.
"What have sex? He chuckled.
"Yes, that and waking up in the same bed." She laughed.
"Ya know what, Anna, I guess Katherine was right after all. I was still in love with you even back then. I was just in denial."
"I think I was, too. You helped me through some rough times back then. But you are a pain in the ass you know."
"I know" he smiled and kissed her with a happy grin.
"But you love it."
"I do." she smiled back at him.
And they kissed deeply. He pulled away and said something he had said many years before.
"When are you gonna tell, Robin?"
They both laughed and kissed and held each other tight. Deep down Robin probably already knew this would happen someday.
"You know who else would be really happy right now? Robert asked.
Anna looked at him with a tear in her eye. "Yes, Sean. Rest In Peace my friend, we finally found our way back to each other."
