Colonel Young slowly opened his eyes, finding himself standing in the stasis pod. He stepped out and stretched his arms. The first thing he noticed was the eerie stillness. Nothing and no one was moving in sight. There weren't any sounds either. He took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves as he took couple of steps in the direction of the door. As he passed Eli's pod, he frowned, not knowing what to make of things. If Eli fixed his pod as it seemed was the case, it would be odd to make the system wake only him unless there was a problem. But there was no note explaining what happened. All was as he remembered it from before he went into stasis.
He shrugged her shoulders, looking at the motionless figures in the pods. Ominous blue light was enveloping them, making them looked unhealthy. He just walked out of that section of the pods, when he heard a voice.
"Sir?"
Even before he turned, he knew who it was. TJ was stepping out of the next section, rubbing her eyes with fists. Despite being in the pod for three years, she looked tired, big dark circles around her eyes. He suddenly had the overwhelming urge to take her in his arms and comfort her, but his training told him to make sure they were safe first.
"You're awake too?" He stated the obvious, watching their surroundings carefully.
She nodded in response and checked on a few of the nearest pods. It seemed like no one else was waking up anytime soon.
"You okay?" She asked, watching him closely.
"Fine. Just want to know what the hell was going on. I figured I'd either wake up with Eli welcoming me or I wouldn't wake up at all." He motioned to the pods behind where she was standing. "Let's check out the other pods and see where we're at."
"Yes, sir."
"Let's do it carefully, though, okay?"
"Right."
He gently took her hand and led the way to another compartment of pods. On top of being silent, Destiny was fairly dark. If he remembered correctly, it used to be brighter in the corridors. But then again, he just awoke from a long looong slumber.
"Waking up the commander and the medic first makes sense, I guess. Maybe there is just some sort of delay between the command orders and others will soon follow." TJ zipped up her jacket, shivering from the cold.
"Let's hope so. I don't want to be forced to improvise with the main console's buttons." He said, frowning.
They walked side by side with him checking pods on the left and her checking the rest. No one looked like they were going to be waking up anytime soon, on the other hand there didn't seem to be any problems, red flashing lights etc. It took them about half an hour to check all the stasis pods and areas neighboring it. They treaded lightly, their weapons in front of them. When it was confirmed they weren't in any immediate danger, they returned to the section where Colonel Young stayed these past three years. Figuring that either Rush or Eli would be most useful now, they wanted to be aware when they became available. Or if.
"Shouldn't one of us use the communication stones?" TJ asked, leaning back against the wall next to the colonel's open pod. The waiting was unpleasant to say the least.
"Someone has to stay here and monitor the pods. We shouldn't separate. If we're lucky it's been three years since we were last awake and we don't know if the ship is secure." He finally sat down opposite of her, turning slightly towards the door.
"I thought that Rush said something about safety protocols."
"He did. But those were hurriedly put together prototypes. There's also the question Destiny's condition."
"Okay." She said quietly, looking away. His stern tone of voice surprised her.
"I shouldn't raise my voice at you like this. I'm sorry."
"It's alright, sir."
"TJ…" He said with a sad look on his face.
"What was that?" She turned after the sound, her eyes searching the source.
"Oh, come on. That's such a cheap trick!"
"No, seriously. You don't hear it?" She raised her hand to silence his objections.
A distant screeching could be heard when they were both totally silent. They shared a surprised look and swiftly got up to their feet. With their weapons at the ready, they proceeded to track the origin of that sound.
