Hello everybody. This isn't really a series… more of something to debate about. I wanted to break down the quirks of class 1-A to a greater extent and find some more interesting facets to them.

As we all know, In My Hero Academia, we aren't really given a look at how quirks are classified or how they're effects are recorded. We get some of an explanation of quirks and their weaknesses, but they aren't really questioned or looked into much.

Take Tetsutetsu for example, who was one of the first students I took a look at. His quirk turns him into steel, while consuming the iron in his body. As such, Tetsutetsu's diet consists of foods high in iron. However, while looking for facets to grow off of, people commonly look at Kirishima for ideas, where as I looked to Himiko Toga and my OC Durza for ideas.

Basically, Tetsutetsu's quirk, as stated before, requires a high concentration of iron in his body. Now, we know the usual sources. Meats and some vegetables, such as spinach. (Yes. I consider it a vegetable. A leaf vegetable. Fight me.) But his similarities to Kirishima caused many people to look over a large alternate source. That source being human blood.

And from there, the idea grew. Giving Tetsutetsu features that slightly boosted his strength after consuming blood. Lengthening the time he can stay in metal form. Etcetera, etcetera.

So. I've decided to look into the quirks of class 1-A and give you a better understanding of the superpowers that grace My Hero Academia. I'll also include my own thoughts on each character. I hope this can inspire some thoughts of your own.

So let's begin.

Seat One: Yuga Aoyama

Quirk: Navel Laser

Tier: C

I have to give Horikoshi some credit for this one. Honestly, Aoyama is one of my favorite members of class 1-A, just because of how different they are from the rest of the class. I say they, because although Aoyama is biologically male, it isn't really known what gender they present as. Aoyama constantly has people guessing. Heck, most people just say "Screw it, Aoyama's female."

I find Aoyama to be a somewhat relatable character. My younger and older brothers both have long hair, and are often mistaken as female for that fact alone. Aoyama seems like that kind of person.

Aoyama is also one of the misfits of UA. I put them in with Mineta, but not for the same reasons. (Mineta is a mistake and anybody can fight me on that.) The thing is, Aoyama's flamboyant nature doesn't get the rest of the class's attention. They're often ignored. Aoyama doesn't end up fitting into any of the groups in class. Be it the bakusquad, Dekusquad, the academic success group. Aoyama is kind of average.

I enjoyed seeing their role in MHA seasons 3 and 4. How they realize they aren't as strong as the rest of their classmates, but nevertheless make up for it in their own way. And then we have the infamous cheese scenes… Aoyama is… a pretty decent character because of that.

The backstory of their quirk is that it's incompatible with them, or so they think. There's been speculation on Aoyama's quirk. How it generates a laser. What's its fuel source? Well… there's a couple of theories I've come up with.

Aoyama's quirk basically lets him shoot a laser from his belly button. It pained him at a young age because it leaked out of his stomach. That's why he has his support belt.

Wait, leaked?

I'll get to that in a minute. First we need to cover some other information. First off. We should talk about lasers. A laser is a beam of light with an intense concentration of heat. That's what causes it to basically melt through things. That's exactly what a laser does. One thing about light is that it has no weight. Nor does heat. Both light and heat are attributes of energy. An actual laser doesn't actually have kickback.

However, Aoyama's does. He actually uses the recoil to launch himself in some of the quirk apprehension tests. Another thing is, his quirk leaks without his belt.

Judging by these two things, I can say that Aoyama's quirk isn't your ordinary laser. It has a sort of physical aspect to it. It has to have a bit of mass. It's a bit of a mystery, but a little more becomes clear the more I think about it.

First off. While I don't know how his laser is fueled. It is hypothesised that it is based off of the food in his stomach. I think it has to do more with the fluids in his stomach. That's why his laser has a leak. As far as the side effect, that has to do with more complex things.

Aoyama's laser comes from their belly button. It's produced inside of them, and shot out. Your belly button is a result of your umbilical cord being tied off when you're born.

From what I can tell… Aoyama's laser causes them pain because the first time they used it, it popped a hole in their belly button to function. Maybe, it was never intended to be fired from their belly button, but from their mouth. Laser breath. However, something happened and that ended up re-routing the lasers energy. This ended up tearing Aoyama's belly button, causing the quirk leak, and their discomfort.

I mean, your belly button is very sensitive. It can actually cause severe cramps if something pinches it. A hole would definitely be bad.

The idea of laser breath makes a lot of sense when dealing with this type of laser. For the weebs out there who watched fairy tail. (Yes, we're all weebs, but these one's will know who I'm talking about.) We all know of the dragon slayer 'Sting', who's dragon roar is a laser similar to Aoyama's. When he first uses it, it causes a shockwave and a bit of wind, again, having to have some physical mass.

Another thing is that while using a laser breath attack, Sting can widen his stance to deal with recoil. In Aoyama's case, that's physically impossible. Unless you want to deal with the pelvic thrusting hero: Laser Blazer.

Aoyama's support belt probably seals the hole in their belly button. Thus keeping the leak at bay, and keeping them from cramping, unless they use their quirk.

Now, this may not be the best theory out there, but I think it explains a lot. I mean, One For All wasn't exactly 'compatible' when he had it, but he grew into it. If that's the case,

Why didn't Aoyama grow into Navel Laser?

Anyway. That's it for Aoyama. On to the next student.
