Thomas Christmas Party

It was Christmas on the Island of Sodor, and all the engines were working hard. Thomas and Toby were busy carrying people and parcels up and down the Ffarquhar Branch Line.

It's a winter wonderland

See the snow lay all around

Bells are ringing; Ding-a-ling-a-ling, Ding, dong

Sleigh bells jingle

Home for the holiday we go

Rushing to our winter wonderland

By the side of the tack was a lonely little cottage, with a familiar figure standing by the gate, waving at Thomas as he passed by.

Thomas: It's Mrs. Kyndley! (whistles) Merry Christmas!
It had been a whole year since Mrs. Kyndley had saved Thomas and his passengers from a landslide right by her cottage, and Thomas and Toby wanted to do something special to thank her. One evening they had a wonderful idea.

Toby: Let's throw a Christmas party to thank her!

Thomas: Great idea, but where will we hold it? This shed is too small for a party.

Thomas' Driver: Let's try Tidmouth. I'm sure the other engines would love to take part in this party.

Thomas: Great idea! Tomorrow evening, I'll go to the sheds to ask them about it.

The next day after finishing his work, Thomas went to see the other engines. All their coats had just been polished, and they were all looking forward to Christmas.

Thomas: Hello everyone!

Engines: Hello Thomas!

Gordon: Stay awhile, Thomas. We just had our paint polished.

Thomas' Firemen: Why don't you tell the others about our party plans while we polish you up, Thomas?

Percy: Party?! What party Thomas?

Thomas: Well, it's been a whole year since Mrs. Kyndley saved us from a nasty accident.

Edward: You mean when she was ill in bed, and she waved her red dress out her window to warn you about a landslide on the line ahead?

Percy: And you and Toby gave her presents, and The Fat Controller sent her to Bournemouth to get better?

Thomas: Yep!

Henry: Wait a minute! I see where you're going with this.

James: Me too.

James and Henry: The rest of us have never really thanked her properly!

Thomas' Driver: Exactly, and that's why we think we should all give her a special Christmas party. That and also the Ffarquhar sheds are too small for it.

Edward's Driver: A party sounds like a lot of fun! Count me in!

Drivers and Firemen! Us Too!

Thomas: Tomorrow, I'll ask The Fat Controller about it.

The next evening, all the engines went to Knapford to ask The Fat Controller. They were sure he would like the idea.

STH: A party for Mrs. Kyndley? What a splendid idea! There are no trains on Christmas or Boxing Day, and we all want Christmas at home. We'll have the party on Boxing Day! I'll write the invitation to her, you all start making plans.

Engines: Yes, sir! (whistles and bells ringings)

Soon, Mr. and Mrs. Kyndley got the invitation.

Mrs. Kyndley: "Thomas, Toby, and Friends request the pleasure of the company of Mr. and Mrs. Kyndley. At a party at the Tidmouth Sheds on Boxing Day at 5pm. RSVP-Sir Topham Hatt Wellsworth, Sodor." A party sounds like a lot of fun.

Mr. Kyndley: I agree with you, darling.

Thomas, Toby, Henrietta, Annie, and Clarabel spent Christmas Day with the other engines at Tidmouth. The sheds had been decorated and were ready for the party tomorrow. The next morning however, The Fat Controller came to the sheds with bad news.

STH: It snowed very hard last night, and Mr. and Mrs. Kyndley's house is snowed in. Thomas, you and Toby must go rescue them. (looking at Thomas) There's no party unless you do.

Thomas: Yes, sir. We must rescue them!

STH: There's a good engine! You and Toby will manage splendidly.

Workmen came to fit Thomas and Toby with their snowplows, and they set off to the rescue.

They were doing just fine, until they stuck to one of the drifts.

Thomas: (groans) Don't tell me Terrence has to pull us out again.

Thomas' Driver: (chuckles) No, this one we can easily loosen so you can back up and try again.

This happened quite a few times however, and each time the workmen would have to loosen the snow. Then they would start again, determined not to let the snow beat them. Soon they reached the cutting near the cottage, where they could go no further.

Thomas: (whistles) Here we are!

Mrs. Kyndley: (waving from the upstairs window) Am I glad to see all of you?

Toby: Are you OK?

Mrs Kyndley: Yes, now that you're here.

The workmen went up to the cottage to start digging, but as fast as they dug, more snow fell from the roof, undoing all their hard work.

Toby's Firemen: We're never going to dig all this snow away in time.

Terrence: Then why don't you leave this to me?

Thomas: Terrence, are we glad to see you?

Terrence: Great to see you again, Thomas and Toby!

Toby's Driver: Now let's get to work.

Terrence cleared the snow around the house, while the workmen dug a path to walk down the hill. At last the work was complete.

Mr. Kyndley: Thank you everyone for rescuing us from that huge snow drift.

Terrence: You're most welcome.

Percy arrived with Henrietta, who had been decorated while Thomas and Toby were rescuing the Kyndlies.

Mrs. Kyndley: And who might you be, little green engine?

Percy: I'm Percy, mamm. I was sent here to pick up the workmen and take them home. You'll be travelling to the sheds in Henrietta.

Mr. Kyndley: How exciting! I can't wait for this party!

Thomas: Are you coming, Terrence?

Terrence: Sadly no. I have to look after the cottage while you're gone, and try to dig away the rest of the snow. Take care everyone!

Mrs. Kyndley: Bye, Terrence.

Mr. Kyndley: Thank you for helping to rescue us!

Percy went to take the tired workmen home, while Thomas and Toby set off for the sheds.

The sheds were dark when they arrived at Tidmouth.

Toby: Why is it all dark?

Thomas: I don't know. Let's try whistling and ringing as loud as we can.

(whistling and ringing) Suddenly, all the lights came on, and all the engines were waiting with The Fat Controller.

STH: Well done, Thomas and Toby! I'm really proud of you both. One year ago, Mrs. Kyndley did our railway a great service by preventing what could've been a very nasty accident, and even though we already thanked her for that, the bigger engines wanted a way to thank her properly. Three cheers for Mrs. Kndley!

(cheers and whistles)

Mrs. Kyndley: Thomas and Toby are great friends, and now I'm glad I can call all of you big engines my friends too.

Henry: Three cheers for Mrs. Kyndley again!

(louder cheers and whistles)

We wish you a Merry Christmas

We wish you a Merry Christmas

We wish you a Merry Christmas

And a Happy New Year

Glad tidings we bring

Wherever you are

Glad tidings for Christmas

And a Happy New Year

The party was a huge success. There were games to play, carols to sing, and crackers to pop. Until it was time for the party to end. The Fat Controller had two more gifts to give to Mr and Mrs. Kyndley.

STH: We all hope that you enjoyed the party, and that you'll accept this free travel pass over our railway. May you both have a long life and health to enjoy it.

Mrs. Kyndley: Thank you very much, Sir Topham, and thank you all for this wonderful party!

Toby then took the Kyndlies back to their cottage. (bell ringing) After all the guests left the engines had fun talking about the party.

Edward: That was such a lovely party.

James: Yes! Thank you, Thomas and Toby for such a brilliant idea of a party.

And soon they were all fast asleep.

At Knapford, all the engines, coaches, Terrence, Bertie, The Fat Controller, and the Kyndlies were having a New Years party. Mrs Kyndley then pushed a button setting off the Fireworks, just as midnight hits.

Everyone: Happy New Year!

Well, with the prologue done, everything is now in place. I wanted to adapt this short story, before I did the books. This adaptation might not be very different from the original story, but over time, the adaptations will get bigger and bigger from their source material. If you don't know what I mean by all this go read the info put on my profile. If you have already though, I'll see you when I start on "Adventures of Gordon" for real!
