Forever and always a Quad Squad
This is my very first NRDD fanfiction, so please be easy on me.
( Feedback is very much appreciated though! c: )
It takes place after Season 1's Episode "M.D. Day", where the quads go to their annual check up.
The four believe just getting through that check up to finally get that cookie tower they'd been dreaming of for so many years has been the hardest challenge yet, until they find out one of them might be very ill.
But, who is it?
Chapter 1: A life-changing phone call
It'd now been two weeks since this year's annual doctor's check up, which had finally earned the Harper Quads their oh so desired cookie tower. It'd sure been tough, but it was no longer on the kids' minds at all. They had to worry about school and their friends, the stuff every other normal kid had to worry about.
Dawn and Mae were in Dawn's room, looking through her dresser to search for the perfect cute outfit. Dawn finally wanted to tell Mack how she felt about him, and it made her awfully nervous.
"How about this one?", asked the only female squad, holding up one of the few only dresses she owned. Mae perked a brow. "Is it too girly?", asked Dawn. "It's too girly, isn't it?" She tossed it to the side. "Ugh. I can't do this. You know, I just won't. I'm done. I give up.", she stated in an almost desperate tone.
"Um, excuse me...Dawn Harper doesn't give up.", responded Mae. She placed her palms onto her best friend's shoulders and looked her deeply in the eyes. "Repeat after me. Dawn Harper doesn't give up.", ordered she.
Dawn took a deep breath. "Dawn Harper doesn't give up.", she repeated, a little hesitantly. "Again. This time with more power.", ordered Mae. Suddenly, Dawn was starting to become fond of this. "Dawn Harper doesn't give up!", she nearly yelled in Mae's face. The two girl's started excitedly shouting the same phrase over and over again, while hopping up and down in Dawn's room.
In the meanwhile, Ricky let out a deep sigh. He was in the boy's room, sitting by the desk, and trying to do his homework. "Girls...", he said, a bit annoyed, since he could hear the two screaming and hopping across the hallway. "I can't focus at all." Ricky rolled his eyes.
"It's Saturday morning, Ricky. Nobody does their homework on a Saturday morning. Just do it later.", answered Nicky, who was sitting on his bed and putting on a pair of socks, getting ready to go downstairs.
Ricky looked at his brother. "First the work, then the fun. Ever heard that before?", Ricky asked Nicky. "First the breakfast, then everything else. How does that sound?", Nicky responded, smirking. "Oh well, okay.", replied the blonde one of the two.
"What about Dicky? Should we wake him up?", Nicky wanted to know and looked over at the third boy, who was still tightly asleep in his bed. "Nah, let him sleep. It'll be even harder to do my homework with one more person making noise.", answered Ricky.
Then, the two boys exited the room and headed down the stairs, where Nicky kindly prepared a delicious breakfast for the both of them.
Anne and Tom were already awake as well. Tom was out in the yard while Anne was in the living room, reading a paper, before her vivid kids would come down and crash the silence like a thunderstorm.
Suddenly, the phone rang. "Hello?", Anne responded as she picked up, surprised as to who might call her so early on a Saturday morning. "Is this Anne Harper?", a male voice asked. It was a familiar voice, but the blonde mother couldn't seem to make out whom it belonged to in the very moment.
"Yes, this is she.", the woman responded. "This is Dr. Miller.", the man told her. "You and your kids were in my office the other day."
Suddenly, a rush of relief hit Anne like a ton of bricks. Was Dr. Miller calling to tell her they could come back to the office if they ever needed to? Even though the quads, plus Tom and herself, hadn't left a very good impression.
"I'm very sorry to be calling you on a Saturday. I was going to call you yesterday, but an emergeny got in the way. I hope I'm not disturbing.", said Dr. Miller. "Oh, it's totally fine. You're not disturbing at all, Dr. Miller. What can I do for you?", Anne replied to the man.
"Look, Ma'am, your kids' results from their blood tests came in and I'm afraid I don't have the best new for you." (I know the quads didn't really get blood tests taken, but I had to change that little detail about the episode for the sake of this fanfiction!)
And from one second to another, Anne's excitement dropped. "What is it, Dr. Miller? Is there something wrong?" There was a ton of worry in her voice.
"I'm afraid so, Mrs. Harper.", answered Dr. Miller. "One of the results showed bad anomalies that need further check ups." Anne's heart dropped. This couldn't be. This couldn't even be a possibility. "Who...who is it?", the worried mother wanted to know.
"Well, that's another issue. Thanks to the huge mess you all caused at the office, including your husband's poor acting skills, the results got messed up. We don't know who of the kids it is. So you're gonna have to come back to my office so we can get the tests re-taken." The Dr. sounded very serious. "I see.", was all Anne could get herself to respond. Truthfully, the Harpers were lucky nobody had pressed charges against Tom for pretending to be a doctor. God only knows what horrible things could've happened.
"Come in Monday morning with your kids. We'll figure everything out from there. 7:30am.", said Dr. Miller. "We'll be there. Thank you so much, Dr. Miller.", Anne replied. Then, she hung up. Tears shot up in her eyes. This was a mother's worst fear.
Suddenly, she heard noise from the kitchen. It were Nicky and Ricky, chatting and laughing. And, listening closely, she could also hear Dawn have fun with Mae upstairs in Dawn's room. Not to forget Dicky, who was most probably still peacefully sleeping in his bed, as he was every Saturday morning.
The Harper kids were so happy. So full of life. They were so special. And Anne loved them oh so much. She didn't want that to change. She wanted everything to stay as it was. She wanted the Harpers to stay the happy family they had always been.
Hopefully, those tests result had been completely mixed up and were entirely someone else's.
