One-shot:
A quiet evening was rare for them. A quiet evening together was unheard of. But here they were, lounging on the couch on a Tuesday evening. Regina didn't have any paperwork to catch up on or meetings that typically ran late. Emma didn't have any last-minute Sheriff duties or handling another "emergency" (regardless of what Miss Patty says, retrieving her cat from a tree for the millionth time was not an emergency). The town that seemed to attract trouble hadn't attracted any recent trouble. StoryBrooke was suspiciously quiet...
Too quiet, Emma thought, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy it. Who knows when we'd have another night together without Henry.
Henry was doing some homework thing with Grace. Thank god. I love the kid, but now I can watch TV without him hogging the remote. Speaking of the remote, where is it?
Just then, Emma saw Regina with the remote. Damn it. She watched as Regina flipped through channels before finally setting the remote down.
Emma looked at the TV. Jeopardy! Seriously?! Emma internally huffed. At least it's only 30 minutes. With a sigh, she settled down next to Regina and started to hum the theme song.
...
Okay, what the actual fuck?! Regina hasn't missed one question... or answer. Whatever.
Alex: "As a student, Chadwick got into a theater program at Oxford but couldn't afford it; this man played Equalizer & footed the bill Jeopardy."
Regina: "Who is Denzel Washington?"
Alex: "The peregrine this can really hit the gas going for prey hitting 200-plus mph"
Regina: "What is Falcon?"
Alex: "The tallest of these structures towers 870 feet over the Great Mosque of Algiers"
Regina: "What is a Minaret?
Emma was floored by what was transpiring. The contestants barely buzzed in before Regina voiced her answer. Or question. By Double Jeopardy, Emma was ready to snap. But she decided to wait until after the episode because Regina truly seemed to be enjoying herself.
...
Final Jeopardy: Famous Americans
Alex: "After his public comments were criticized by FDR, he resigned his Air Corps Reserve commission in April 1941"
Regina: "Who is Charles Lindbergh?"
...
Emma let the ending credits finish before she finally looked at Regina and kindly asked... "Okay, so what was that?"
"What do you mean?" Regina asked. Like she doesn't know that she killed that episode.
"How did you know every question?"
"As I have told you many times, Miss Swan. I am not The Idiot in this relationship. Besides, I was frozen in time for 28 years, what do you think I was doing? Twiddling my thumbs? I read. I watched movies and TV shows. I stayed up to date, despite the fact that nothing else around here seemed to. When Henry started school, he needed homework help so I needed to know that material. Now that we have internet in StoryBrooke, I can continue to add to my vast knowledge of, well, everything."
Again, Emma was floored. She sat there, wide-eyed at the realization that her girlfriend was a genius. I mean that makes sense. I knew she was brilliant. But I guess I never thought of what someone would do with basically all the time in the world. She probably didn't spend every waking hour plotting revenge because she already succeeded in casting the curse. I just thought she'd mess with people because the days repeated anyways... right? Is that how that worked? It also makes sense that she would need to know the stuff that Henry was learning in school. Does that mean she studied his schoolwork while doing Mayor things? Because that's amazing. She's amazing. Wait, were there a lot of Mayor things to do when the time was frozen?...
Okay, Emma was getting a headache. She shook her head and looked back at Regina, who had gotten up. Regina walked around the couch and made her way to the kitchen, presumably to make dinner. Emma watched as Regina looked back at her. Why is she smirking?
"Besides, Em-ma. This episode is a rerun."
What the-
Regina cackled. "I do enjoy messing with you."
Looking for a fic: Regina either can't use magic or isn't using it. Emma decides that it's best to teach Regina some self-defense (Henry even has some equipment that they could use at the mansion I think). Meanwhile, Henry is researching magical transference or something and thinks that Regina and Emma are soulmates. He learns that soulmates can use each other's magic and Emma was using Regina's magic when Regina was unable. I also think that after Emma used magic, Regina felt more drained (as if she used magic) while Emma felt fine.
