Eintei was bustling during this time of day. The many earth rabbits of Eintei would go about performing their usual duties, whilst the head members of Eintei did their thing too. Eirin making her medicines, Reisen being sent out on small errands, and Kaguya doing whatever Kaguya does. Though all of these tasks matter not, since they'd be interrupted with a scene that nobody could have ever hoped to predict.

The door to the main medical building in Eintei was blasted open with a large shot of danmaku, as Reimu Hakurei landed down inside of the building roughly. Many of the Eintei rabbits stared at her in shock, before worry grew on their faces collectively. Eirin made her way to the source of the ruckus...and she had a very similar reaction.

"What...happened, Reimu?" Eirin asked nervously, though to those privy they'd know exactly what happened.

"Marisa...she bit off more than she could chew. Help her. Now!" Reimu would shout in response to Eirin's question, as we finally get to understand what happened. Reimu of currently carrying the near-lifeless body of Gensokyo's Ordinary Magician, Marisa Kirisame. Riddled with holes and mangled by both danmaku and ice, it's a miracle she's even breathing still. The shrine maiden and the doctor made haste to transport Marisa into an operating room, in hopes of being able to save her…

Flashback, just an hour prior. Cirno's point of view?

Marisa Kirisame wasn't one to be overly cocky. Sure, she's confident as hell. Sure, she likes to banter. But she also knows when to throw in the towel. Apparently today she didn't know how.

Today, she was entertaining Cirno's antics by fighting the ice fairy to test out her 'new danmaku'-

"TODAY'S THE DAY, MARISA! EAT MY ICE!" Cirno would shot enthusiastically, charging up icicles and icebergs around her, then flying off randomly to hit the witch.

"Nah, its too cold for that! We just got done with winter, ze!"

And as her opponent, Marisa was solely focused on dodging. Casually zipping around the battlefield on her broom, maybe even reading a book because she honestly didn't take Cirno seriously. Various new unnamed spells and shot types were flung willy nilly at the witch as she effortlessly dodged them all, giving Cirno various bits and pieces of advice as she did dodge. Unlike...most of Gensokyo, Marisa could actually tolerate Cirno, hence why she's even doing this. Plus, its funny to her to see the fairy get pissed off when nothing works.

However, She wasn't expecting Cirno to do what she did next. She pulled out another unnamed spell, this card completely encasing Marisa in ice as danmaku orbited the sphere of ice around the witch. At first it seemed harmless- until one realized that Marisa is actually fully frozen. And...that said orbiting danmaku was actually just closing in on the sphere of ice.

"HAHA! TAKE THAT! YA FINALLY GOT HIT MARISA! I'M REALLY THE STRONGEST-"

To say the least it wasn't a pretty sight when the attack finished. Ice shattered as hundreds of relatively powerful bullets of danmaku assaulted Marisa from every which way. Initially Cirno was proud of her victory, until she realized that now her opponent was half frozen and limp on the ground.

"Uh...o-oh. D-Dai! We need the miko!"

"W-what happened C-Cirno-chan?!" Daiyousei, whom many consider to be one of Cirno's lackeys, was immediately worried. If CIRNO, of all fairies, needed the Hakurei miko, then what could've happened?

"Jeez, n-no time to explain! I froze her solid!" Despite her not being physically the strongest, Cirno had flown down to the limp Marisa and tried to start lifting her up…

Present Day, Reimu's point of view

Marisa's body was in no good shape whatsoever. Internal organs and blood vessels shredded and frozen, her body mangled due to the sudden onslaught of danmaku while she was frozen. If it were normal danmaku play, sure she'd be fine. But Marisa bit off more than she could chew by playing around how she did. The doctors of Eintei were working their hardest to save whatever they could...and Reimu had to sit outside the whole time.

Outside of the medical portion of Eintei, Reimu was worried sick. She's clutching her gohei tightly, sitting on a bench as she stared at the ground in disbelief.

"How could this have happened?...Why did you let this happen, you idiot?.."

She asked to nobody in particular, pondering the specifics of this happening. All she knew is that Cirno had dragged Marisa's body to the shrine. She had barely any context, all she knew is that her friend was in mortal danger.

Looking up from her staring at the floor, she saw Reisen approach. The earth rabbit gave the maiden a soft smile, taking a seat next to her. She was carrying a clipboard whenever she sat down, too.

"Well Reimu...Uh...she'll live. Here's your good news. However…"

Reisen would sigh softly, before she showed Reimu what was on the clipboard. The miko's temporary happiness was quickly shot down by what she saw. Namely x-rays of Marisa's body. Her body was mostly intact, her legs injured a little more than most of her body, however...her right arm was mangled to hell and back. Her bones practically obliterated and too many holes in her arm to heal. Combined with the blood loss from breaking her bones after a fall, and said bones breaking skin…

"We'll have to amputate. Even by Eintei standards its too far gone, too damaged for us to heal. The rest of her should be fine.."

"I-...what? Y-You mean to tell me that she's gonna lose an arm? I. I-I don't believe it."

Reimu was extremely skeptical and almost pissed off at first. But the more she stared at those photographs, and the more she was stared at by the mellow rabbit, the clearer it became to her.

Her friend was crippled. Permanently.

Marisa POV

Marisa woke up to a world of pain. Every part of her body hurt, from the tips of her toes to even the top of her head. She's currently immobilized in a hospital bed, with IV drips hooked up to her and other various medical tools and machines lying about. She groaned trying to sit up, though she couldn't. Her body hurt too much. One of the nurse rabbits that was helping Eirin took notice, and quickly approached the awakened witch.

"Hey hey hey! Don't get up. You still need to rest. I'll go grab Dr. Yagokoro." As soon as the rabbit had approached, she left to find Eirin.

Marisa was left alone again for a few minutes. She brewed in her own thoughts, staring at the bamboo ceiling of the sterile hospital room. It felt boring and bland, being alone in such an empty and monotone room. Once again she tried getting up, but was interrupted by Eirin's entry.

"Ahem, Marisa, I'll need you to lay down. You're too injured to be moving about-"

"Yeah yeah I know! Don't gotta be such a nag, ze. Ya could probably lemme out of here tomorrow." Marisa had cut off the doctor mid-sentence, apparently not caring about what she had to say. She continued to try and sit up, whilst Eirin approached with a clipboard.

"Marisa. Your scrap with Cirno has left you injured beyond repair. Lay down."

"E-eh? Whuzzat supposed to mean?-" Marisa made an attempt to push herself into a sitting position, but only found one of her arms pushing her up. What was left of her right arm was barely a stub, nicely healed over...but her arm was gone. Marisa stared in shock and disbelief, while Eirin sighed weakly.

The doctor would walk over and set the clipboard into her lap, showing Marisa the exact same x-ray images that Reimu was shown. Amongst various reports and notes too, it was detailed that there physically and magically was no way to repair her arm.

Disbelief was currently the only emotion she felt. She was in denial, rejecting all thoughts that her arm was or could be gone. So she reached forward with her good arm, grabbing Eirin's jacket weakly.

"T-this is a joke, r-right?...E-Eirin this is j-just an illusion!" Tears had begun to form in her eyes as she spoke, her voice growing shakey.

"No- lay down Marisa- this isn't a joke! I'm sorry to say. You'll be discharged in a few days, I just need to make sure your body is stable. It should be, I don't doubt my abilities, but there's always the need for safety with this stuff." After taking the clipboard back from Marisa, Eirin left the room. There wasn't anything ceremonious about it, Marisa just being left alone with her assigned nurse.

She's still in denial, even though the facts are in front of her. Her arm is gone, she can literally feel the stump, and the x-ray imaging showed her the rest of the proof she needed. And because she's bedridden by Eirin's orders, she can't exactly do anything either. So, the witch would lay down finally, and she drifted off into a nap after staring at the ceiling for what seemed like hours.
