I got inspired to write this so I will. I always thought it was a bit easy, two recluse adepti, one yaksha, and a flying building was all it took to take down osial a rival of morax - the god of gosh darn war. Well it was probably that he was severely weakened or something. I didn't rewatch or redo the quest before writing this like I should have, but whatever3. I guess ill weaken the adepti and strengthen osial.
In all his long life, through constant battles, this had to be one of the worst series of events that could happen. First his lord, Morax, succumbs to a sudden death then he is forbidden from pursuing those responsible and after heightening tensions between the adepti and the insolent Qixing, the Fatui go ahead and unseal Osial. As an adeptus he has no need for mortal emotions, but he surely feels the grips of panic now, would they lose liyue so soon after Morax had left? Were his efforts so meaningless? He knows that he is considered one of the stronger living adepti, but the word there is living, his true strength is not in pure strength - although no mortal could compare to an adeptus - but in speed. Indeed as a yaksha, his duty lies in dealing with fast swarms of fragments of gods and evil spirits, not facing a gods full power head on. The challenge and danger came from resisting the corruption and being able to deal with the swarms of spirits and monsters before any harm came to civilians, one nearly had to be everywhere at once. But facing a god such as Osial, who faced off with morax, the prime of the adepti, by his own power he had little hope. He could only hope that his senior adepti had a plan, or at least the mortal contraptions he was fighting on would be able to hold long enough for them to form one.
Cloud Retainer was worried, she was one of the smartest adepti, but after the end of the archon war she had become more of a recluse, throwing herself into her creations and subsequently had lost some of the details of the fight against Osial. All she could really remember was how difficult the fight was and how it seemed to get harder as time passed. Why had it gotten harder? She knew this was an important piece of information, even if she didn't have perfect memory like her lord Rex Lapis it would be difficult to completely wipe something this important from her memory. Zoning into the fight, it seemed to be going well, Osial was being beat back slowly and the traveler and their companions were fighting off the fatui before they could intervene. Glowering, she sent some of her power to the traveler, there would be retribution for this attack. Nearing the end of the fight, she and the current leader of the mortals, ninguang - a remarkable person who designed the current floating palace, similar to her own designs - came to the conclusion that a decisive finally strike would be necessary to finish the fight and so decided to sacrifice the jade palace. Cloud Retainer could not get rid of the nagging feeling that she was forgetting something important though. Looking upon the destruction that the Jade Palace had rained upon Osial, she felt the last of her worries disappear, while it could not kill the god, it would take a long time for Osial to heal from that wound, more than enough time to construct another seal. However when the last remaining heads of the fallen god began splitting, she belatedly realised what had slipped her memory, Osial was the god of the vortex, but also had his own creations/minions, the most famous of which was the hydra. A monster that would live and grow another two heads if decapitated. A trait they had gotten from their creator. She watched in horror as Osial began lifting into the sky again, and with no more weapons(her ballistas had gone with the jade palace), there was little they could do to protect liyue.
Zhongli sighed as he stood from his perch atop Mt. Tianheng, his spear came with him. It was a struggle to not fight his old foe the moment he reared his head, but he had to give liyue a chance. He had almost relaxed his grip when they had downed Osial for the first time, but it seems that they had forgotten the terror of Osial - his ability to come back from any blow- and had blundered on the last step. When they turned their back instead of following through to finish the fight, his iron-clad hold on the spear became the immovable weight of the earth, his unassuming form turned into the terrifying form of Rex Lapiz that inspired fear so long ago, memories fade but the earth remembers. It would seem that they were not prepared for this fight, the Qixing had not prepared for the danger of a sealed god and the adepti had stagnated over the years of peace. No battle against gods had happened, and Xiao had taken care of every small, at least relative to gods, threat to come. Something would have to give soon, but that would have to wait. He approached Osial with his spear raised, giant spears of geo already flying through the sky, against such a devious opponent, no mercy could be had.
That was pretty good in my opinion, I liked the idea, and the writing got it across pretty well. I looked up the adepti present and apparently there was 5 adepti? Well whatever, it doesn't change the story much, I don't think I would add another perspective anyway. Maybe later I would add a final perspective but idk. Anyhow let me know what you think! 3
