A Couple Days Later- Dragons' Edge
Daystrid

"Hey. Daystrid."

I bolted upright from my spot on the floor of Astrid's hut where I'd been sleeping. I looked towards the open door where the voice had come from. After glancing upstairs, to make sure Astrid was still asleep, I replied, "Hiccup? What's up?"

"Can we, uh, go somewhere else? I don't really want to wake your sister up."

"Sure, just give me a minute."

"Okay." He left the hut and I grabbed my headband off the table and tied it on. Firewing was in his tattoo, and when Hiccup had woken me up, he woke up as well. I grabbed my sword from Astrid's weapon rack, and he took it. I left the hut, closing the door behind me.

The sun was just rising, not that it came up a whole lot anymore anymore. It was almost the time of year when we got two weeks of darkness.

"You ready? I was thinking we could go for a flight. I need to show you something." I turned. Hiccup was leaning against the wall a few feet from the door.

"Yeah, where're we goin'?"

"I'll show you. Just follow me." Toothless came around the corner of the hut and Hiccup mounted him. He took off, heading out towards the sea.

Firewing left his tattoo, and I climbed on, following Hiccup. I caught up with Hiccup just before flying out of the small cove the edge was situated in.

"So, where are we going? And… how long are we gonna be gone? Astrid'll be concerned if she wakes up and I'm not there," I asked once I was even with him.

"I don't know how to say where we're going. And don't worry about Astrid. I left a note in the clubhouse saying we were going for a flight. We should be back to the Edge by high noon," Hiccup replied.

"Okay…"

"Anyways, you remember Durin and his trappers, right?"

"Yeah, wha-?"

"That's what this is about.

"Durin has stayed mostly away from this side of the Archipelago and very rarely goes inside it. It confused me a bit why he caught you a couple months ago, but I didn't pay much attention to it. Until yesterday afternoon, that is. When Toothless and I were out on patrol, we came across a fleet of ships. I didn't recognize them at first, but when I looked closer, I realized they were Trapper ships. I didn't see Durin on any of them, but I didn't hang around real long."

"So you're saying that Durin is actually in the Archipelago now?" I was a little confused as to why this was worrying Hiccup so much. "Why is this important?"

"Because he may have actually seen Astrid a couple months ago and was able to trace her back to Berk. If he was able to do that, then he may attack Berk, looking for us. And I don't know about you, but that's not okay with me."

"Okay, yeah. I see your point now. So, what's the plan?"

"I was thinking that we just watch them for a while, see if we can get any insight on what they're doing up here."

"'Kay, so we're basically spying on them?"

"Uh, yeah, essentially."

"Okay." I could see a ship not too far away. We should have still been hidden by the clouds and they shouldn't have seen us.

"That them?" I asked, pointing at the ship.

"Uh, yeah. And I think they've seen us!" Hiccup said, just as a chain missed hitting his head by mere inches. The chain came down on Toothless's wing though and threw him off balance. Hiccup was thrown from his back and barely had enough time to put his hood and mask up before a chain wrapped around his waist and he was pulled onto the ship.

Toothless, unable to fly without Hiccup, was trying to stay in the air as best he could, when a net shot up from the ship, and he hit the deck shortly after.

I pulled my mask off my belt and attached it to my headband. I was gonna get Hiccup back up here, no matter what.

Firewing and I dove down towards the ship, dodging many arrows in the process. From the side, a net shot up and wrapped around us, pulling us down onto the ship.

Hiccup and I were thrown into a cell; our dragons muzzled and put in cages on the deck below us.

"Nice going," Hiccup said sarcastically after the Trappers walked away.

"I wasn't trying to get shot down!"

"I know you weren't. We need to get out of here. If Durin isn't on the ship, it'll be a piece of cake. But-"

"You mean to tell me that you caught both Night Rider and Flame Rider? Show me."

"-he is… Crap." Hiccup didn't look too happy. "We may be here for a while."

"Why, hello you two!" Durin said, an evil smile coming across his face. "So nice to see you again!" His smile turned to a sneer, "You'll pay for that little fight we had last time we saw each other."

High Noon- Dragons' Edge
Astrid

"Astrid, I'm sure they'll be back soon," Fishlegs said, trying to make me feel better.

"I know. And thanks for trying to cheer me up, but they should be back by now. Hiccup's note said that they'd be back by now," I replied.

"Y'know what confuses me? Why Hiccup and Daystrid went for a flight this morning. I mean, unless he likes Days better than Astrid," Snotlout said, smirking. That earned him a punch to the arm.

"It's possible he just wanted to know more about her dragon side. He just hasn't had time to talk to her since we got back from Glacier Island a couple days ago." Fishlegs was still trying to make me feel better.

The twins walked into the clubhouse. "Anybody seen Daystrid yet? Tuff has something he wants to tell her before she leaves," Ruffnut asked, a sly smile on her face.

Tuffnut went red, "Ruffnut!"

"I'm not sure what's going on with you two, but nobody knows where Hiccup or Daystrid is yet. And Fishlegs you're probably right, but we're still gonna look for them."

We mounted our dragons and took off. "Snotlout, you take the north side of the island. Fishlegs, take the east side. Twins, take the south side. Search the island and the water. If you find anything as to where they went, send up your signal," I gave the orders in Hiccup's place. They all nodded and flew in the directions I'd told them to. Stormfly and I flew towards the west side of the island, both of us keeping our eyes out for anything that could have anything to do with either of the two Halflings we were looking for.

That evening

I was the last one back to the clubhouse tonight. And when I got back, there was a somber feeling in the clubhouse.

"Please say somebody found something?" I tried.

"None of us found anything, Astrid. And we all flew til none of us could go any more." Fishlegs informed me.

I sighed and looked down at my feet. "I know they've got to be somewhere. We're just not looking hard enough."

"Astrid, of course they're out there somewhere. But we're not gonna find them anymore tonight; our dragons are exhausted," Snotlout pointed out.

"Why don't we just let Berk know? I mean, then we'll have help finding them," Ruffnut asked.

"And tell Stoick that his only son and heir is missing?!" Snotlout replied. "Sure, I'm sure he'd love that."

"Ruffnut's right." Snotlout's jaw dropped at my words, so I continued, "We do need to tell Stoick, but give it a couple days first. Let's not worry him just yet. It's possible they got stuck somewhere and are on their way back as we speak."

At those words, all heads turned towards the doorway, including my own. It was obvious we were all worried about Hiccup and Daystrid.
