A/N: This is set before Song of Time's events and quite some time after Link's parents got together. It takes heavy inspiration from the song, "I Say No!" from the Heathers, even going so far to have a parody on the lyrics here. But it fits my crossover ship of Nabooru x Ganondorf to a "T" here.
...
Nabooru could only stare in horror as the torches flickered and sparked, casting long eerie shadows on the walls of her king's den. Her azure eyes filled with dismay as she trembled with her large oriental flame-point ears pressed to her skull. The scene from earlier playing through her mind as she stared at over at the lizard fang on her desk with all her jars of herbal remedies. "How...how did Ganon find out about Conni?"she thought as she ran a paw shakily over the long, sharp broken reptile fang of a lizarfos. She had seen the look of fear and hatred in her love's amber eyes. It was a look of somebody that was going mad...the look of somebody seeing phantoms that weren't there.
She had tried so hard to reign him in and change him.
Oh StarClan and the Golden Leaders knew she tried at the cost of her own happiness. Like a siren his promise to change would have her wrapped around his paws and running back to him. Ganondorf didn't look it but he was over a century old due to whatever Twinrova did to him and whatever darkness he had dabbled in. She sighed as she looked over at the painting of her standing beside him the day she was named his chieftess: the leader of his guard. She then lifted her paw and looked at the distinct birthmark on her paw pad that marked her as one of the Elemental Warriors of StarClan. She was the Warrior of Spirit; a being that could bend life and death's laws. Unlike the Warrior of Shadow whom served as a guardian to the after life and move freely through shadows. She could see the spirits of the living and dead freely.
"Nabooru?" Nabooru froze at the familiar deep, grainy voice of the sole tom of her tribe. She looked over to see the red-point scarred tom as his amber eyes gleamed in the low light. With each step he took towards her she felt like jube jube jelly until she was cornered against the wall with her tail lashing nervously.
"G-Ganon...why are you up so late?"she stuttered.
"Hmph. Isn't it obvious I wanted to come see you my dear."Ganondorf mewed. "We have much to talk about, won't you walk with me?"
"Um...s-sure."she mewed and attentively followed him out into the dark streets of the fortress.
"You reacted rather poor to my choice in regards to your litter mate."Ganon mewed causing her to pick up the pace to walk beside him.
"Please you need to listen! Can't you see they are using you? Yes Conni broke our laws by taking a mate and is with kits but that does not mean she needs to be killed!"begged Nabooru desperately.
"My word is final Nabooru! At dawn your sister will die."hissed Ganondorf turning at her with bared fangs.
Nabooru froze in horror all over again as her claws dug and scraped into the sand worn cobblestone road as she clenched her teeth. The fur on her back began to bristle as her thoughts began to realize something. There was no saving or changing this tom. No, the one that suffered had been her as he had manipulated and abused and broke her again and again. Well, no more would he do so! She began to laugh in a hollow monotone that puzzled Ganondorf as he looked over at his elite guard chieftess that was looking at her paws as tears fell.
"Nabooru?"he chirped.
"Oh, Conni and Rosemary were right about you all along...what a fool I have been..."she hissed flatly as she looked at him with such a hurt and broken melancholy expression.
"Conni you are my chieftess and you'll drop the matter, that's final! Now, let us speak of real matters that matter."he meowed as he began to turn to continue onwards along the path.
"No."she chirped causing him to freeze and turn his gaze toward her with fur bristling.
"What?"he hissed. "You are my chieftess and you will obey me!"
"You heard me. I have tried again and again to make you see reason but you always ignore my words in favor of those vile snake-hearted twin mages!"she snapped as her pupils began to change to a copper color.
"It matters not, you will listen to me!"he chirped trying to get close to her only for Nabooru to duck and weave to move around him. Swiftly she jumped onto a boulder by one of the many palm trees. Her pupils glowing with a sacred light as strange markings appeared with the same glow that now appeared on her claws and fangs. It was a sight that was almost hypnotic and dangerously captivating. It was what had drawn him to Nabooru in the first place when she was but a healer.
"No! How about we talk about YOU instead!?"she hissed as she cornered him towards one of the shop stalls.
"You are a drug, you are a poison potion. I've got to kick this habit now or else I never will. I loved the rush, when you would hold me close."Nabooru mewed as she briefly nuzzled him before snarling and turning away, smacking him with her tail. Leaving him very confused as she glared over her shoulder. "But you will not be satisfied until I overdose!"
Nabooru then began to walk away but Ganondorf followed after her. "This is it, hit the brakes, I am finally awake! Let me be! Let me go! You need help, I can't provide, this cat is not qualified. This troubled she-cat is getting clean of you! I say no!"
Swiftly Ganondorf managed to catch up and cut her off actually looking desperate and frantic. "Nabooru wait—!"
Nabooru instantly snarled and turned on a dime before jumping over him and skid to a halt. Her fur bristling in fury as she bared his fangs and claws at him. Taking a swipe at him which forced the king of thieves to back step out of the way of the blow. Her ethereal beauty in her eyes only holding disgust and contempt. "No, no, no, no!"she snarled as her claws this time made contact with the side of his face leaving him stunned and speechless for the first time. "Don't say a word! You speak and I cave in, you'll twist the truth again! Drill deep down beneath my skin. You said you'd change and I believed the words you spoke."Nabooru mewed looking disgusted and hurt, clearly on the verge of tears again.
Ganondorf tried to get closer to try and comfort her but Nabooru turned her back to him and began to walk away as the sacred glow faded away. "Nabooru please listen!"he begged as he gave chase.
"No, you listen. You're still using me to justify the harm you do!"she growled as she continued on her way as she began to climb the stairs with Ganondorf hot on her tail. Quietly she glared down at the much larger gerudo tom cat that was her king and the object of her former affections before picking up the pace arriving at the top of the fortress's walls. "This is it, hit the brakes! This was all a big mistake! Long as you let me go! You need help, I can't provide. I'm not a Twili and you're not a Yiga! It's not too late, I'm going to get straight, I say no!" Swiftly she hopped onto one of the brick ledges to look down at him with growing disapproval and resentment. Eventually Ganondorf caught up to her with a look of confusion and hurt as he trotted over to her.
"Blame your kithood, blame your father, blame the life you never had! But hurting others? That's your choice, my king! 'Cause I believe love and courage will win and hate will earn you nothing in the end!"Nabooru lashed her tail as she jumped down and was now staring him down as for the first time Ganondorf was actually cowering in submission towards her as her eyes once more glowed with an ethereal power. "This is the end of us Ganondorf!"
Ganondorf began to snarl and actually leaped at her causing vicious howls and snarls to echo across the vast desert night as fur and blood began to fly. Until finally Ganondorf had her pinned against the wall of the Fortress with furious tears in his eyes. "But I love you! Why can't you see that!?"he snarled as he tried to strike only for Nabooru to use her strength as the Warrior of Spirit. With a swift kick she let loose a blow that struck him both in body and soul causing him to yelp as he rolled across the ground. Nabooru then went over and pressed her paw down on his skull, digging her claws into his flesh to cause blood to trickle down as she bent down to his ear to growl, "Enough."
Nabooru then removed her paw and took a few steps before jumping back onto the edge of the wall as Ganondorf looked at her with a sea of emotions including guilt and anger. Her glowing eyes looking down with remorse and hatred and regret before she wiped her tears away as resolve took their place. "This is it, I won't cry. Starting now, I will try to pay back all the karma I owe! So I'll start again, somewhere new! Far away from a king like you."she mewed as she slashed a rip in space with her claws big enough for her to go through. "So goodbye 'cause now I'm saying no!"
With that Nabooru jumped and vanished into the portal as it closed behind her before the dark king's eyes. His furious scream breaking the silence as the portal opened up just outside the nursery den. "Somehow I'm saying no. Just say no! I say no! No!"she hissed as she creeped into the den through the drape door. She kept up the steady pace as her glow vanished just as she reached the room where a red-point queen laid curled up sleeping. Unaware of the disastrous fate their king had for her. Not hesitating she shook the queen. "Conni, get up now!"
"Hmhnnn...? Conni it's after moonhigh."Conni yawned groggily looking up at her twin sister with sleepy eyes. "It's way too early."
"Come on, it's not safe for you anymore. I'm getting you out of here!"she hissed swiftly forcing her sister to her paws. Conni looked so confused but listened as her littermate grabbed a cloak between her fangs and put it over her sister's head and pulled the hood over her head.
"N-Nabs what's going on? You look like a wolfos is on your tail!"she squeaked.
"Ganondorf wants you dead. He's going to kill you at dawn, Conni!"she chirped hastily. Conni looked horrified as she crouched as her feather-like red tabby tail wrapped around her plump belly heavy with her unborn litter. Conni was not the first queen of the tribe this year to be targeted. Ganon had killed two other queens after hearing the new king of their tribe was due to be born this year. Even worse in their king's eyes was it was prophesied that the hero of legend was due to be born this year. Conni felt frightened, an emotion that was foreign to their tribe.
"N-No..."whimpered Conni.
"Don't worry, he's not going to get you or your kit. I'm getting you out of here, out of Gerudo Desert!"she meowed as she nuzzled her trembling littermate. Wasting no time Nabooru ripped open another hole through space. Quickly she ushered her sister inside and jumped in, closing the portal behind them that left them at the edge of the Gerudo Desert. Before them was the vast Gerudo Canyon and ahead no doubt in her mind the outpost that the Hylian army was using. Quickly she lead her sister into the rocky terrian as rain began to pour in the desert.
Rainleaf was here.
Which meant leaffall was starting over Hyrule as snow began to gently fall. The trip was proving hard on Nabooru's heavily pregnant sister, Conni but they had no choice as the winds howled. Somehow they made it over the bridge and were swiftly surrounded by cats from the Hylian army.
"You'll go no further Gerudo!"snarled one amber eyed armored tabby.
Conni instantly hid behind her sister, trembling from the cold. Gerudo Tribe were cats meant for the desert and the extreme heat of the sun. Not the bitter cold Hylians, Shiekah, and Zoras would be used to. Conni though stood her ground as she noticed the red eyes glowing in the shadows.
"We are no enemy of your's Shiekahs and Hylians! I bring the mate of Aaron Quicksilver, she seeks protection and sanctuary as our king calls for her head and the blood of her unborn kits!"Nabooru's voice boomed over the howl of the winds.
Instantly from the shadows out came a shaggy green and white tuxedo tom cat with a madical sachet around his neck. Both eyes bore scars yet his scarlet eyes were clear. "Conni!"
Conni's ears perked as she straightened and stood up straight. Joy on her face as she raced out towards the Shiekah medicine cat. "Aaron!"she purred happily nuzzling into him. Instantly the army sheathed their claws and lowered their guards a bit.
"Conni I'm going to need your collar and leg guards. I need proof if I'm going to make the tribe think you're dead."The couple looked over at Nabooru with a serious look. But there was resolve in Conni's eyes as she removed her gear. But what Conni did next made everyone have various reactions of worry and concern and what-the-heck at the Gerudo she-cat. Conni took her leg and unsheathed her claws and injured herself to get blood to stain the collar and gold rimmed green leg guards.
"There, now it's more convincing."she chirped as Aaron swiftly applied a potion to make the wounds heal in a blink of an eye.
Nabooru felt like she was on the verge of tears as she paws the gear towards her. "Please...keep her safe Aaron. I'll come back to check in on her when I can."she whispered.
"Count on it. No harm will come to my mate or our kitten."he meowed before vanishing into the night with the army and Conni. The storm destroying any evidence they had been there. Wasting no time Nabooru took to roughing herself up to appear she had just come from a fight. Then grabbing the blood soaked gear of her littermate before vanishing into the night herself.
