The door to Kylies cell opened up and she was immediately ushered out of the room and down the hallway past her fellow inmates.

Kylie had gotten fifteen years but to her surprise was being released after ten for good behaviour and all Kylie could think about was David and the kids.

The week prior to being released she had to make living arrangements and had to call the only family she knew, the Platts.

A man's voice picked up that wasn't anything like Davids and when she asked if David was there, the man on the phone took a deep breath. "mum?" he had asked. It was then she had realised the man she was speaking to was Max.

It had been ten years but for some odd reason she still expected him to be ten. After a brief conversation, he agreed to come and collect her on her release day.

Now she was getting out, she didn't know what to expect. She went through security and then was given a box of her things that she had with her when she had first entered the prison.

The guard escorted her out of the premises and a car was waiting for her. As he unlocked the gate, a man got out of the car that Kylie didn't recognise for a second until he smiled and Kylie saw his blue eyes, she knew immediately that it was Max.

Kylie let go of her box and threw her arms around her son, the idea of him being taller than her seemed a bit frightening but she soaked in every ounce of him.

After they pulled apart, he gathered up her belongings and put it in the car. She excitedly got into the front seat so glad to now be free.

The drive was awkward and unusual as Kylie cranked the window down and layed her head on the door enjoying the cool breeze of freedom.

Max however found himself growing more and more angry as he drove before suddenly pulling over to the side of the road.

"max?"

"Why didn't you want me to contact you?" Max asked, his face flushed with fury. Kylie didn't say anything as she watched him, the sudden guilt washing over her. "Why now? only because you need a place to stay?"

"I didn't want you to see me in that place" Kylie said truthfully though she was beginning to regret her decision. "I also didn't want you to look at me and hate me, I killed your dad-"

"Davids my dad" Max said at once cutting her off mid sentence. Kylies eyes softened as she nodded. "yes he is and he always will be"

Max finally looked at her and let out a shaky breath. He saw hope in his mothers eyes, hope for the family she had left behind. He knew he had to tell her the truth.

"No one knows you're being released. Only me"

"well it will be a lovely surprise for everyone then won't it" Kylie said as Max looked at her and shook his head.

"Hes married someone else mum"

Kylie paled, her heart in her throat. She didn't want to believe it but it had been ten years. She didn't expect him to marry someone else, maybe have a few girlfriends here and there and hopefully be single by the time she got released, not be married to someone else.

"When?" Kylies voice cracked as she spoke and Max wanted nothing more that to take her pain away.

"When he visited you after you were sent down, you asked for the divorce, you said he should move on." Max said as Kylie felt herself well up "He was a wreck for a few months, he went to a bar in town and met Shona"

"Shona?"

"She's got a son. Clayton, he knew my biological dad" Max said as Kylie continued to look horrified, knowing exactly who he was talking about.

"Though we don't speak to Clayton, he usually turn up to cause trouble" Max said. "Shonas been a good mum to me and Lily"

"Right" Kylie said feeling sick to her stomach. "Drive"

"what?"

"I want to see my Daughter and I want to see David even if he's married to someone else" Her voice was shaky so Max didn't object. Instead, he started up the car and began to drive.

"Dad still speaks of you" Max said suddenly surprising Kylie as he drove into Coronation street. "Mostly to Lily whos thirteen now."

Max parked the car outside number eight as Kylie wiped away a few tears that had rolled down her face. She was ready as ever to finally see her family again.

Slowly getting out of the car, she took in the area and was greated by Tracy Barlow across the street just gawking at her. Max walked into number eight and Kylie tagged along behind him.

David, Shona, Gail, Sarah and Nick were chatting away in the living room when Max walked in.

"where have you been?" David asked as Max hesitated to answer that question.

"okay don't be mad" Max begun " but I have a surprise, whether its good or bad its entirely up to you" Max said though noticing their confused faces he looked over to the door and nodded for Kylie to join them.

Kylie slowly walked in and took in each one of their faces. If it wasn't for the fact she was really nervous she probably would of laughed at the horror on Gail's face.

David however just stared at her as if he had seen a ghost.

"Hi David" Kylie said softly.

Knowing who she was from the pictures dotted round the house Shona found herself getting slightly possessive, grabbing onto Davids arm as if to show Kylie that they were together.

"Have you escaped?" Gail asked horrified and Kylie found herself smiling.

"Yes Gail, I dug my way out like shawshank redemption" Kylie joked.

"mum got released early, she needs a place to stay. I said she could stay here. This is her home too" Max said watching David closely, he didn't object. He just stared blankly at her before nodding.

Shona however felt extremely uncomfortable with it but never the less found herself introducing herself to Kylie. "I'm Shona, Davids wife"

Kylie smiled as she eyed shona closely. The pang of jealousy hitting her heart. " Kylie, pleased to meet you" Kylie shook shonas hand before looking at David again.

Kylie wanted nothing more than to hug him but with shona watching closely and the fact David seemed closed off it probably wasn't a good idea.

"Wheres Lily?" Kylie asked.

"school" David finally said unable to take his eyes off her. "can you give us a minute?" He asked his family.

Max held his mothers arm while Shona looked hesitant. "David i dont-"

"Its fine!" He snapped. Shona and the rest of the family looked at each other before slowly making there way out of number eight.

Shona paused at the door. "Text me when you're done" She said before exiting the household leaving David and Kylie alone.

Kylie bit her bottom lip and smiled softly. "Well don't i get a hug?" she asked cheekily. David shook his head as he tried to work out what to say to her.

"David I'm sorry for shutting you out"

"I've thought about this moment for years" David said "what I would say but now-" he looked down.

"I had no where else to go, for my release I needed somewhere to live" Kylie said "you're my only family but if you want I can find some place else-"

"no" David objected and Kylie saw a glimmer of hope in that single word. "You can sleep on the couch, your stuffs in the attic"

"you kept my stuff?"

"I figured some of the stuff would be useful for Lily" He said. "She has your trouble maker top by the way"

Kylie smiled big at the thought of her daughter. "Is she a trouble maker then?"

"You can find out when she gets back from school" David said as he began to make his way upstairs.

Kylie watched him go and though she felt happy to be back, the sadness she also felt was overwhelming. It wasn't like it was before and Kylie wasn't sure it ever will be as she picked up a photo of David, Shona, Max and lily. The jealousy she felt was almost unbearable, that should be her with her husband and children.

Shakily she put the picture down and sat on the couch in the living room that once held happy memories for her with her children and David, now it was just a distant memory.

A/N So this story has been in my mind for awhile and I've not read one like it before so I thought I would write one. I've got alot of ideas for this story and I'm hoping to post every Sunday if I get enough reviews. Please review and tell me what you think.
