AN: Hello I am back with a new story! This story is one I wanted to write for awhile and finally got the courage to write it, helpful criticism is welcomed.
He awoke slowly each of his senses coming back one by one. He made sure every other sense worked properly before he opened his eyes. The sight that greeted him was a room with a grey coloring, the only feature worth note for the room itself was its sheer size. A size that allowed the room to hold four massive king sized beds along with a master bathroom all with room to spare. The beds were the only source color in the room, one being gold, another light blue, his being black, and the last being black also but with white dots resembling the night sky.
Thankfully it was the sight that he saw before falling asleep after drinking with his brothers.
"Good," Nano thought.
He sat up, two massive 18 feet pitch black wings draped over his shoulders. He quickly fluttered them to make sure everything was connected properly. he looked toward the bed that looked like the night sky and a saw figure laying on the bed motionless. The figure had a robe covering his body with a split in the middle, through the spilt he could glimpse what looked like a very light chest plate. However, Nano knew the armor was actually made of carbon fiber and were made to detach after taking a certain amount of damage. After the figure sleeves were segmented gloves that were also made of carbon fiber.
Even though a hood covered the figure's face, Nano knew it was his older brother Azrael. Though even if Azrael was not wearing his normal, very identifiable, combat outfit, Nano would still be able to identify his brother by his two massive wings that were of similar length and size to Nano's own. Unlike Nano's wings though, Azrael's wings were decorated by white spots that resembled the night sky, much like his bed, but the wings were much more realistic.
A flutter of said wings confirmed that while Azrael was indeed awake, Nano knew his brother wasn't getting up for few minutes. Azrael always after a night of drinking would take medicine to bed with so he could wake up, take some medicine then refuse to get up until his hangover was gone.
Standing up Nano sleepy walked past the gold and blue colored beds and into the bathroom, it wasn't anything to write home about, all it had was four sinks beneath a continuous mirror along with a shower and bathtub.
The person the greeted him in the mirror was a man that had youthful face that looked to be in his early 20's and stood 6ft (183cm). While not a bodybuilder he was definitely fit and tone with some muscles. Other than his wings, by far his most eye catching features were his red irises, red hair that was in quiff style, and abnormally white teeth with elongated canines.
He brought his left hand up, what seemed like a normal hand deconstructed into a hoard of black flying insects with singular glowing red eye. The swarm flew around Nano before they formed a pistol, a knife, and various other objects before the swarm returned to Nano's left stump and forming a normal hand again.
Now knowing his powers were working properly. Nano opened his chest to reveal in the place of vital organs, was rifle and handgun ammunition. Carefully he placed all of the ammunition in a box that was in a cabinet that was under his sink.
Just as Nano was about to step into the shower when he stopped suddenly remembering he forgot something.
"Oh right, my clothes," Nano grumbled internally. Quickly covering the distance to the door, he then only cracked it opened a few inches. A considerable sized swarm of the same type of flying insects that his hand turned into flew in. They quickly merged with Nano and added to his mass and muscles.
With that done, he quickly got into the shower. While washing himself, Nano occasionally opened a hole in his body to clean both and inside outside of his body. Slowly, Nano felt the grime gathered from past few days wash away.
As he washed himself he thought about about life and the situation he was in. Not only was he, as well his brothers, were Faunus but they were also Vice-Versas. Normally a when Human or Faunus has their Aura it powers their Semblance. However, for Vice-Versas it was, as the name suggests, opposite. This was not inherently bad per say, in fact most Vice-Versas had very powerful Semblances, but it seemed the Human and Faunus body were not designed for this, as a result Vice-Versas tended to have/develop... issues. By far the biggest and most constant issue was that for some reason their energy and power did not flow correctly. On average when Hunstmen and Huntresses ate or slept the energy gained would flow first to the body for vital functions then the extra would flow to their Aura and, depending on the person, Semblance. Once again for Vice-Versas it was opposite, The energy flowing first to one's Semblance then Aura then to the body often left too little or no energy for said body to work properly. To compensate for this a Vice-Versa was forced to choose between eating an obscene amount food constantly or finding another source, considering how fast the money eating all that food added up most chose the latter. Unfortunately most other sources could not be used or taken advantage of legally. Any energy used by/produced by Aura or Dust was so large that most Vice-Versas went off the deep end, hunting any Huntsmen/Huntresses and any generator powered by Dust. What made it worse was that a Vice-Versa's elongated canines appeared to particularly adept at draining this type of energy, almost as if their own bodies were encouraging them to go down this route. The fact that most of Vice-Versa's Semblances were quite powerful and needed a lot of energy drove them further into the criminal life. This obviously wasn't a recipe for a long life and most Vice-Versas died quite young. Being hunted down and killed like dogs, stab in the back by their fellow criminals, and the worst yet, thrown into a cell to die by what was basically starvation for them, was three of the most likely deaths that awaited Nano and his brothers. Because of this Vice-Versas were exceptionally rare and only a handful were alive at one time.
Nano decided it was time to finish up and quickly cleaned the rest of his body.
After the very needed washing, Nano stepped out of the shower. The insects that would have formed his clothes deconstructed from him and flew towards the swarm collected his ammunition before returning him and forming his uniform. His soldier's uniform resembled that of a World War 1 German solider complete with a neck wrap and a dark grey trench coat with red trimming. As his clothes were forming Nano reopened his chest to stack his ammo as neatly as possible in his body and pockets in order to have as much ammunition on his person as he could.
Now ready for the day, Nano left the bathroom. As he waked past the beds again he saw his brother still in bed, Azrael was probably waiting for Nano to go before he himself got ready, so Nano quickly exited the room.
He stepped out into a warehouse, as he walked, he past numerous boxes that contained ammunition or money. Nano then reached a larger than average door, opening it Nano stepped into a living room with a large T.V., couch, and kitchen. On said couch was Nano's second oldest brother Cyan.
Cyan was large, well built man. His hair was of a medium length, that while not styled, was not overly messy. Both his hair and even eyes were the same color as his namesake. He too had youthful face, looking in his mid to late 20's. Cyan was covered in seemingly advance segment armor. Similar to Azrael, to save on weight it was all made of carbon fiber. Unlike Azrael, Cyan through his semblance could reinforce his armor. Though all of these were all eye catching, they paled in comparison to his two massive 20ft(6.7m) wings. Said wings were a bright, electric, cyan. Because of the anatomy of bird Faunas wings being more flexible and jointed than there real avian counterparts, Cyan, along with all avian Faunus, was able to fold his wings to one shoulder length past his shoulder.
Cyan was currently laying back watching the news on T.V. with a far away look in his eye. Nano turned to the T.V. to see if it was anything interesting. After seeing it contained either information Nano already knew or things he could not care less about, he turned away.
Cyan usually was not this mellow, meaning Cyan probably still had a hangover. So Nano decided to give him a small mercy and just nodded to his brother, which Cyan returned, before walking into kitchen.
In the kitchen he stood, before Nano was his oldest and by far strongest brother: Virus. He stood at a staggering 6ft 7in( 200.66 cm). Virus's hair was dark brown, his eyes were a golden hue that almost seem to glow. His features were handsome, looking very similar to Cyan. This was to be expected as Cyan and Virus were twins with Virus being the older one by a few minutes. He wore armor almost identical to Cyan's with two distinct differences. One of them was color, Virus's armor was black with gold highlights. The second difference was the fact that Virus had a helmet, though he was not currently wearing it, that had a pronounced mouth guard, a golden visor, and ear antenna.
Like the rest of his brothers Virus had wings. while similar in size to Cyan's they differed in one massive way: They were literally on fire. The fire was weaker than normal, as Virus's wings looked like lightly burning charcoal. Normally/in combat They resembled that of a phoenix.
Virus was currently cooking breakfast. It was a typical breakfast: eggs, sausage, hash browns, and bacon. Virus was surprisingly a good cook, especially considering he was almost completely self taught.
"Is Azrael up?" Virus questioned, looking at Nano without turning his head.
"physically? Yes; Mentally? He should be but I have no idea," Nano answered.
Virus gave his brother a questioning look. "Regardless, he should be here in a few minutes and the table is already set, so get ready to have breakfast," Virus ordered.
Nano nodded walking back into the living room and sat on the couch. Internally he pushed his ammunition aside and used surrounding bio-matter to form a temporary digestive track.
"I give it 15 minutes before he sets foot in the door," Cyan stated.
"I would not be surprised," Nano said with a smirk.
Nano then sensed a being with aura heading towards them, Insects that Nano used a scouts confirmed that it was indeed Arzael.
"He's early," Cyan commented.
"Well it has been awhile since we have done this, maybe he is excited?"
"As excited he can get," Cyan chuckled.
Nano laughed at the comment, which caused him to be distracted enough that he did not notice that Arzael was at the door until it opened. Now standing at his full height of 5'11" (180.34cm) Arzael walked into the living room. Now Nano could see the armored gloved that, though not visible, extended to cover his forearms. Nano could also see the bottom of Arzael's armored boots that went to his knees.
"Sup," Nano greeted.
Arzael's normal neutral expression turned to Nano and Cyan, his grey eyes studying both of his brothers.
"Good morning," Arzael greeted, seemingly satisfied with what he saw.
"You're up early," Cyan commented.
"Well we do not get to eat actual food together or at all for that matter. So I am eager to enjoy the few times that we do," Arzael stated as if it was obvious.
"Told you," Cyan said with a smirk to Nano.
"Go fuck yourself," Arzael snapped with no real malice or anger. After a sigh, Arzael turned to the T.V. and examined it, "Anything worth of note?"
"No," replied both Cyan and Nano.
"Just the usual: Grimm overrunning villages, warnings to look out for criminals such as Torchwick and us," Nano listed bored.
"They already know we are in Vale?" Arzael asked mildly surprised.
"More of they assume we are in Vale, our flight path from Atlas showed us heading towards Vale and we haven't been here in a few years," Cyan answered.
"I was more wondering why they already released our presumed locations,"
"Our battle in and subsequent escape from Atlas wasn't exactly...subtle," Nano said with a slight wince.
"I was there," said Arzael " I guess it really was too big to hide,"
"That's putting mildly," stated Cyan," we blew up our entire bunker up there, there is no doubt that was seen for miles."
"And yet they did not catch us," Virus said coming out of the kitchen, "Now come, breakfast is ready and there is much to do."
Before long all 4 brothers were sitting down at a table with Virus at the head. For the first few minutes the brothers focused on eating, enjoying the sensation of taste that they did not get to enjoy often.
"As you know our base location in Atlas was comprised," Virus started between bites," and that thankfully we were able to destroy any sensitive information that would expose our operations in the other kingdoms. However, we are in an area that they expect us to be in, we need to make them think we went somewhere else. To do this we will need to lie low at the very least until the Vital Festival. To this end, only Nano will be able to go out," everyone nodded their heads, "Speaking of which, last night to compensate for our losses I ordered some dust and ammunition from Roman Torchwick, Nano, I want you to go retrieve the supplies and return immediately, Cyan, I want you to make a list of all our contacts located here so that when Nano gets back he can investigate our contacts to find and eliminate any that are comprised. Arzael and I will take stock of inventory here,"
"understood," responded the other three brothers.
Soon enough the brothers had finished and got started on their assignments, Nano himself was just about to leave after emptying his stomach / bowels. As Nano was walking towards the exit of the warehouse Virus pulled him aside.
"I can not stress enough how important it is that you are not spotted by authorities without a disguise," Virus emphasized, "It is dangerous enough that we are showing ourselves to Torchwick, I do not trust him as far as I can throw him, we currently have too many loose ends here for Huntsman to be on our asses,"
"The authorities only think we are in Vale, we need them to think we went to Vacuo or Mistral," Nano affirmed what he was told before.
"Exactly, the only way we can do that is to give as little evidence that we are here as possible, I am already planning on working on making wild goose chases in Vacuo and Mistral to throw them off, we have hidden in the shadows for decades now, something like this was bound to happen sooner or later and if we are not careful it can be the end of us," Virus said with a serious tone, "That being said do not hesitate to defend yourself, destroy all opposition and threats to our goals as you see fit." Nano nodded at the orders, that was Virus's way of saying that Nano had free reign on any surprise or unexpected situation that came up so long as he could survived it.
A black cloud of insects swirled around Nano, after a few seconds the cloud dispersed to reveal Nano's disguise for Vale: An old recently retired huntsman that had messy white hair and beard, and wore a grey suit. His name was Robin Verde, a pure human. The backstory was that 'Robin' had used the warehouse as his main base of operations when he was a huntsman and when he retired he decided to keep the warehouse. Of course the real Robin has long since been dead, an old fool who thought just because he was experienced he could take on all four brothers and not tell anyone what he was doing; he did not last long.
Virus nodded his head in approval,"Here are the coordinates to the meeting place, it is not far," said Virus handing Nano a piece of paper with coordinates on them. Virus was right, it was still at the docks in some nearby warehouse. After Nano memorized the location he gave the paper back to Virus and left the warehouse. As he watch his brother go Virus clenched the hand that held the paper with said hand briefly glowing. Virus then turned and walked away, as he did so he opened up his hand: nothing but ash fell out.
Inside a warehouse surrounded by men with black and white suites with red glasses stood a man. The man had slanted, dark-green eyes and bright, long, orange hair, with long bangs covering his right eye. Black eyeliner traced his visible left wore a red-lined white suit with long black pants and black shoes. His accessories included a small gray scarf, black gloves with buckled sleeves, and a black bowler hat with a small feather tucked into its red band. Beside the man stood a small woman that seem to be themed after Neapolitan ice cream, having the appropriate trio of colors in her hair and on her outfit. her hair color was half pink and half brown, with white streaks on the pink side. Her left eye being light pink and the other being brown. She wore a white cropped wide, broad tailed jacket with a pink interior, collar, a single gold button and large pink cuffs. She was also wearing brown pants with a dark belt that has a gray buckle and an additional narrow belt under it. Under her jacket was a brown corset, curved in the middle and at the bottom, exposing her hips. She had a multitude of black beaded necklaces, which hung haphazardly around her neck. The small woman also had black and white spat styled under the knee boots alongside black gloves. The man was Roman Torchwick and the woman was his right hand: Neopolitan, also known as Neo. Both were currently standing next to five boxes that contained ammunition and dust of varying types.
Roman had mixed feelings about the brothers. On one hand, Roman loved trading with them as they were reliable, always able to been able to pay what they asked for and always delivering on what they were asked of. On the other hand, he hated being around any one of them for extended period of time. He always got the feeling they always mere moments from killing him, like they were waiting for any excuse to remove his head from his body. Of course, any shady character he dealt with probably held the same sentiment but those people were better at hiding it, much better.
Roman checked the time, it was almost the agreed time, meaning he would be here any minute. As if one cue, there was noise in an unlit corner of the warehouse, everybody turned toward the noise. Everyone watch as the shadows seemed to come alive twisting and convulsing with a buzzing sound, out of the shadows came a humanoid figure. At first the figure was hidden by the shadows with only thing discernible were two red eyes.
"Junior's henchmen, Really Roman? should I be concerned?" Came a deep voice from the figure.
Then like a wave, color came to figure revealing an exact 6' copy Neo, even the eyes matched. The shadows twisted and convulsed more whirling around the fake Neo before forming two huge midnight black wings. As the impostor approached Roman and the real Neo, the impostor's height shrunk at a rate that by the time the fake stood before the duo even its height was the same as the real Neo with now the only way to tell the difference between the two was the wings on the fake. The henchman seemed to be uncomfortable by the turn events, which was understandable considering this was the first time they witnessed Nano's semblance in action.
"No, They already know the deal: After this done, it never happened or they're dead," Answered Roman seemingly with not a worry in the world.
"Good, I would hate to spill blood when my brother specifically told me to keep low profile," Nano's voice was distinctly feminine now even though Neo herself was mute. If the henchmen were uncomfortable before, now they seemed down right disturbed, shifting uncomfortably.
As Nano approached the boxes he passed Neo and glanced at her, for a second his eyes flashed red before they returned to 'normal.' This seemed to catch Neo off guard, however she recovered quickly and responded by making her left eye brown and right white as if to challenge Nano. He responded and copied her new eyes colors with a smirk. Moving on,'Neo' reached the boxes and examined them.
"This is not a lot boxes," 'Neo' noted. Seemingly instantly the tension seem to rise to 100%: the henchman reached for weapons, Nano's features darkened, the shadows seemed to come alive once more, Neo's and Roman's grip on their respective weapons tightened, and the wind began to howl.
With the hope to avoid bloodshed Roman spoke up," Did your brother not tell you? Another Business partner of mine already had a large claim to my ammunition and especially dust, this was all I could spare for now, Virus said 'it is better than nothing,'"
"While he did tell me this order would be smaller than usual I was not aware it would be this small, especially with the money I was given to pay for this," Nano's still feminine voice a had a dangerous edge to it.
"Normally you would be correct, however; As a gesture of good faith and as thanks for the good business over the years, I decided to compensate giving a smaller amount by giving you the best Dust and ammunition can buy," Roman gestured to the boxes," You can take a look for yourself, This is the absolute highest grade of Dust and ammunition out there, in fact this stuff is so expensive that even with this small amount and the price we agreed upon I'm still losing money; quite a lot actually."
Nano's visage was unreadable as a small swarm came from him, the swarm ripped opened two boxes and dove into them before reemerging and combined Nano once more. As Nano's posture relaxed the tension in the room evaporated almost as if it was never there in the first place, almost.
"It seems you are correct," 'Neo' approached Roman lien, from somewhere, in hand. Roman accepted the money; after he put it away, in order to seal the deal both shook each other's hand. As this happened Nano returned to his normal male form.
As Nano stepped towards the boxes to bring them home Roman stopped him,"Before you go, the other business partner i mentioned before wants to speak to you,"
"Why?"
"She wouldn't say," Roman answered, "All she said that was that since she knew your identities that would be enough motivation to talk to her," Roman continued shrugging and pointing to a structure that looked like an office behind him.
Nano suppressed a growl as he approached the office, of course this lady was correct, the fact that she knew their identities was problematic. He would need to figure out who this person was and what were her motivations. He only hoped that he that he would not have to kill her: yet. He didn't what her connections were, who would come looking for her, and who she shared their identities and location with. He brought out of his musings when arrived at the door. Nano with opened the door with no hesitation, however; he was surprised on what he saw on the other side.
"A Maiden?"
AN: That is all for now, sorry for the cliff hanger! Also do not worry, how the brother know of the maidens will be explained next chapter hint:The fact they are Vice-Versas has something to do with it.
