Chiara hums contentedly to herself as she divided chard from bread, spreading around the holes, she adds an egg to each hole, with a pinch of salt and pepper, before sprinkling Gruyère over chard and cutouts. She places the two skillets in the oven putting the timer on for 12 minutes.

Strong arms suddenly slipped around her waist, a tall, firm, warm body pressed against her back. "Morning, babe."

She lightly turns her head to the left, placing a kiss on his cheek. "Dolcezza mattutina."

"Shouldn't I be calling you that."

"Calling me what?"

"Not saying it. You love to make fun of my mispronunciation of Italian words."

She reaches her hand out to cup his cheek. "But, you're adorable when you try."

"I think the word you are looking for is handsome, sexy, attractive," with every word his lips get closer and closer to her lips.

"Ahem-hem."

The two of them look to the kitchen entrance to see Chiara's twins- the most influential people in her life.

"You two her disgusting," Renato states, playing with his bed hair; it was beyond his shoulder but didn't quite reach his armpit.

"I don't know, I think they're cute," Carina objects.

Her brother rolls his eyes. "You know what? I would think so, too, if they weren't doing it in the kitchen where we- meaning I- eat."

Sharing a look Chiara and Hunter proceeded to make out right in front of the twins.

"Okay, it's not cute anymore," Carina states two minutes into the kiss.

"Agreed."

Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep!

Chiara separates her lips from Hunter. "Breakfast is read!." she quickly takes the two skillets out of the oven,

Hunter heads to the fridge, taking out a pitcher of mango juice while Carina and Renato took their seat.

It wasn't long before the four of them were settled at the table enjoying their breakfast.

Renato hums in pleasure. "This is so good, Mom."

"Thank you, Renny," Chiara smiles.

"I never did get to ask you two, but how were your first few days of school?" Hunter asks the twins.

"That's because you spent the weekend playing video games with them," Chiara points out.

Carina giggles. "School was interesting. We have all of the same teachers from last year except for . He's interesting."

"Interesting how?" Hunter asks them finishing his bite.

"He's our history teacher, and he's very invested in the class."

"Having an invested teacher is not a bad thing," Chiara points out.

"Yeah, but he's not equally invested in everybody," Renato objects. "His daughter is in the class. He tends to make lessons about what is going on in her and her friends' lives."

"It's been three days, I'm sure it'll get better," Chiara assures her.

"And if it doesn't. Just call me, I'll talk to him."

Renato snorts. "Thanks, Hunter."

After breakfast, Carina and Renato took over clearing the table and washing the dishes.

"I'll see you later, Ren, Rina," Hunter waves. He places a kiss on Chiara's lips. "Bye, babe."

"I'll see you Friday," Chiara replies, walking him to the door. "Love you."

"I love you too."

Closing the apartment door, she returns to the kitchen. "Do you two want me to take you to school?"

"Don't you need to get to work?" Carina asks her.

"Nah, I have a new commission to work, I'm not gonna get any work done at the store, so I'm leaving Chloe in charge today."

"We'll take the train, you can get a head start on your commission," Renato tells her. "What are you designing anyway?"

"The client wants a blue diamond, and black opal encrusted flower-shaped locket for their daughter's sixteen birthday. Those are the only requirement which gives me a lot of freedom, which means…"

"Forget taking the day off, you need to take the week off," Carina teases. "You're going to be tossing and turning, changing ideas all week. You're so indecisive, Mamma."

Chiara sighs. "You might be right." she glances at the clock. "You two better get ready for school, or you're gonna miss the subway."

Forty-three minutes later, Renato and Carina were seated on the Subway on their way to school. Carina leans her head on Renatos's shoulder. "Sleepy?" he asks her.

"Very," she replies, closing her eyes.

"I'll wake you up when we get there."

She smiles softly at him. "Thanks."

As she drifted off to sleep, Renato took out his 3ds, his attention was taken from the game when two girls loudly stumbled into the subway. They quickly took hold of a bar as the train started.

Renato instantly recognized them as Maya Hart and Riley Matthews, best friends extraordinary. Paying them no mind, he returns to his game.

"Woah! Riley, you don't do lip gloss," Renato groans as his attention was once more brought to the girls.

"Oh! What I forgot to mention is that I'm completely reinventing myself. I ride the Subway now, I have kiwi lips now, and I'm just as cool as you now!"

He watches as Maya glances over Riley's shoulder. "Yeah, let's see how cool you can be when you look at him."

Renato rolled his eyes when he realized what caught their eyes, a boy about his age with dirty blonde hair. He went to return to his game when he heard the two girls giggle, sighing he saves his place, and shuts down his 3ds, placing it in his bag.

"Yeah, you're gonna need some lessons. Let me show you everything you need to know about boys and girls," he cocks his head, watching as the blonde girl walked over to the unknown boy. "Hi, I'm Maya. You're really cute. We should hang out sometime. You make me happy. You don't pay enough attention to me. This isn't working out. It's you, not me. We can still be friends, not really." she walks back over to her friend. "He's available. We just broke up."

Riley sends her doe brown eyes. "Are you okay? Do we need to talk about it?"

"You still wanna be like me?"

The brunette nods vigorously. "I want to be exactly like you. I think too much, and you don't think at all."

"See? You get me, so let's not think," smiling at her best friend Maya unlatches her hand from the bar and watches as she falls onto the unknown boys' lap.

While Maya might have unlatched Riley from the bar with a smile, there was something uncertain in her eyes. Something Renato recognized instantly.

Sighing to himself, he spoke up. "That was nice of you,"

Maya swirls to face him, surprise on her face, "Huh?"

"I said that was nice of you, giving your friend the push she needs to talk to the boy."

Maya shrugs. "Well, she wants to be more like me, so…"

Renato searches her face. "You don't really want her to be like you, do you?"

"No, no, I don't," she responds, not knowing what possessed her to answer his question. "Riley is better than me in every way possible. She has an innocence I don't have, I want to protect her."

"Then why did you let her go? And to a boy. Trust me, we're the worst."

Maya snorts. "You don't seem that bad, and it's what she wants, I'll do anything to make her happy."

"Huh? You're not so bad, Hart."

"Than…" her eyebrow shot up. "How do you know my name?"

Before he could answer, Riley walks back to them. "That was great!"

Maya sends a curious look to Renato before focusing her attention on Riley. "You're welcome."

"What if that was the best moment of my life? What if nothing ever happens to me again?"

Just as the subway tilts backward, Maya smiles and unlatches Riley's hand again. With Riley distracted, she turned her eyes back to Renato. She takes in his olive skin, ocean blue eyes, dimpled cheek, and messy chocolate brown hair pulled into a low man bun. He kind of had a dark and mysterious aura around him that she liked… a lot.

"So you know my name, but I don't know yours," Maya tells him.

Renato sends her a dashing smile, causing her cheeks to go hot with a scarlet burn. "It's Renato, Renato Raguccio."

She holds out her hand. "Maya Hart, but you already knew that."

He turns her hand, placing a soft kiss on it. "Ammaliato." Maya's face burns even brighter.

Renato chuckles to himself. "I wonder how red her face can get?"

Next Station JQA, Next Station JQA, the doors will be opening on the left.

Well, this is our stop," Renato tells her, releasing her hand. "You should probably go get your friend."

Maya glances at Riley to see that she was engrossed in looking at Lucas' face. "Yeah, your right."

When Maya was gone, Renato turns to her sister. "How long are you gonna pretend to be asleep?"

Carina lifts her head from his shoulder and stretches. "Well, I was trying to sleep, but the two of them were loud. I hope you know what you're doing?"

"I'm not doing anything. Come on, let's get out of here."

After lunch, Carina and Renato were at their locker, taking their history book out.

"So are we giving another chance or not?" Carina asks her brother, shutting her locker.

Renato shrugs. "I mean the life lessons kind of effect everybody, so I guess we can give him a second chance. He's not a bad teacher, we could have gotten worse,"

"True."

Smiling at each other, the two made their way to History Class, taking a seat in the second row, just as the school bell rings.

lifts his head up to survey his class. "It looks like we're missing…" Maya and Riley chose that moment to walk into the classroom. "Nevermind. Hi, honey," greets his daughter.

Riley smiles at him. "Hi, Daddy."

"You're late for your father's class."

"Oh, don't worry, Mr. Matthews, you wrote her a note," Maya interjects.

's eyebrow raises. "I did?"

"You did," Maya hands Riley a note.

"You did," Riley tells her Dad, glancing at the note before passing it to him.

Accepting the note, reads it. "Riley's late. Deal with it. Oh, you got my signature down pretty good this time."

"Oh, it was easy, you write like a girl," Maya taunts.

She turns to take her seat when she noticed Renato sitting behind it. She smiles at him and quickly takes her seat. As soon as she was seated, she swiveled to face him. "You're in my class?"

He nods at her. "Have been for a little bit now. How do you think I knew your name?"

"I figured you went to our school, but I'm sure I would have noticed someone has pretty as you in my class."

Renato went to reply when interrupts.

"Okay, let me get back to jamming some learning in your heads, The Civil War."

"The Civil Bore," Maya gibes.

Renato crosses his arms, leaning back in his chair.

"Thank you, future Mini-Mart employee of the month," shot back.

"Would I be making more money than you?"

He pauses before looking away from the blonde "The Civil War! Anybody?"

Maya smirks.

"A war we fought against ourselves," Riley answers.

raises an eyebrow at her. "What, you actually studied it?".

"No, I'm actually living in it," Riley responds before smacking her head on her desk.

Rolling her eyes, Carina raises her hand. "The Civil war was a war fought in the United States from 1861 to 1865, between the North and the South. It began primarily as a result of the long-standing controversy over the enslavement of black people."

smiles at the brunette. "Thank you, Ms. Renato. Anybody else?"

A dirty blonde boy styled in a bowl sends Carina a quick glare before standing. "People, people, are we here to learn or not?"

"What do you mean, Farkle?" asks him.

Farkle drops back to his seat. "I've been in love with Riley since the first grade. But I'm also equally in love with Maya. Some might say the great mystery of the universe is who's gonna be the first Mrs. Farkle."

Maya turns her head to face him. "You don't want this."

"Bring it on," he challenges.

"I always thought that he'd wind up with back-of-the-class Brenda," Riley comments, lifting her head from the table.

Everyone turns to the back of the class to look at a brunette girl with a striking resemblance to Farkle. Brenda sends Farkle a flirt wave.

Turning back to the board, Farkle shivers. "Yuck"

"Actually, the great mystery of the universe is how you can love two women the same who couldn't possibly be more different," says, bringing the classes attention back to him.

"We're not so different."

"May I overstep my bounds, sir?"

"You always do," agrees, switching places with Farkle.

Standing in front of the desk, he flips over the name tag on 's desk, saying "Farkle" instead of "Mr. Matthews." "Riley is the sun. Warm and bright and lights up my whole day. Maya is the night. Dark and mysterious. And the night has always been a mystery to me. Because I go to bed at 7:30. How can I love these two different women? How can I not?" he takes a dramatic bow. "Thank you, I am Farkle!"

stands, returning to the front. "So, we were indeed trying to find out who we were, as a people. Who am I? What should I be? History shows that bad things happen when you don't know who you are." He pauses as the door opens, and Lucas steps into the room. "Who are you? I don't know who you are."

Riley leans over to Maya. "Subway boy," she whispers.

"I'm Lucas Friar, from Austin, Texas," he introduces himself, handing a note.

glances at the note before looking back at Lucas. "Oh. New student, Mr. Friar?"

Lucas nods. "Yes, sir."

"Great. You're just in time for today's assignment. Have a seat," gestures for him to pick a desk. He takes a seat behind Riley, sending her a smile.

Riley turns to stare at him.

"Okay, so we..." walks over to Riley and turns her head forward. "So, I'd like you guys to open your books to page 48. Now, I'd like you to turn to page 1. Now, I'd like you to read from page 1 to 48." the class groans. "Oh, too bad on you. Okay, so for tonight's assignment, I'd like you to write me a three-page essay on anything. Anything at all that you guys believe in so strongly, you fight for it."

"That," Maya slams her hand on the desk. "I'd fight for no homework. I come here every day; why can't you teach me everything I need to know while I'm here."

"Woo!" Riley cheers only to back down at the look her father sent her. "Not woo!"

"He gets our days, let's take back our nights. No homework, more freedom," Maya stands and turns to the class. "Who's with me?"

"No homework, more freedom! No homework, more freedom! No homework, more freedom!" most of the class chants along with her.

Maya goes over to Riley and whispers in her ear. "This is it, kid. You wanna be like me? Stand up. No homework, more freedom! No homework, more freedom! No homework, more freedom!"

"What are you doing?" asks his daughter, who was beginning to stand.

"I'm making a choice about who I want to be, about whose world I want it to be," Riley tells him.

"Riley, I know you. You know exactly who you are," pleas.

"Then, who am I, Dad?"

"You're just like me."

"Oh, yeah? Would you do this?" Riley turns away from him. " No homework, more freedom! No homework, more freedom!" she glances over to Farkle. "Farkle, are you with us or not? No homework, more freedom! No homework, more freedom!"

Farkle stands and rushes to the front. "My education? Or my women? My education? Or my women? My education? Or my women?" he gets dizzy and looks up at . Oh, it's happening again, sir." he faints into 's outstretched arm.

Carina sends her brother a look.

Renato shrugs. "At least we know this year is going to be interesting."

Ring! Ring! Ring!

"It seems that the class is over. Please clean your tables before you leave," Mr. Norton tells the class.

Farkle raises his hand. "What about our homework ."

"Oh, yes! Thank you, Farkle." the rest of the class groans. "For your homework, I will be splitting you into teams of two, you will answer questions on the handout that I gave you at the "

Carina sighs. Standing from her seat, she started gathering her things, dumping her notebooks into her bag. Science is the only class she didn't have with her brother, her least favorite class. She was in it with know- it- all Minkus, and neither Matthew and Hart are in this class to distract the young genius.

Said genius walks over to her. "Hello, Riri..."

Her lips curl in distaste. "Don't call me that. You've lost all right to call me that."

Farkle blinks at her. "I've always called you that. Ever since we were kids. Why can't I call you that now? You know now that I think about it… you've been avoiding me, haven't you? Did I did something to anger you."

"Look, Farkle, we don't need to talk to do this assignment. We're both smart enough to finish this by ourselves. So why don't you do half and I do the other half. Okay?"

Silence descended upon the both of them.

"Okay," Farkle agrees.

She lifts her bag over her head. "Thank you."

"You know I'm gonna find out why you're angry at me, right? I'm a genius."

"Not all the time, your not."

Turning from him, she left the classroom.

She hoped Farkle would let it go, but she knew the genius and knew the chances of that happening weren't likely. When Farkle as a mystery in front of him, he as to solve it.

The next day Maya entered the history class with a last-minute plan in mind, she frowned a bit when she saw that Renato had a sheet of paper on his desk.

Sliding into her seat, she turns to look at Renato. "So, I see you did your homework, sure you don't want to hide that and join the homework rebellion?"

"As fun as that sounds… no. My sister would bother me into doing it, and my mom would be disappointed if I didn't, better to do it, then deal with all that. " Renato tells her.

"Must be nice."

"Huh?"

Maya shakes her head. "No, nothing. You're loss." she turns back to the front.

"Okay. So, today we're gonna find out if anybody here believes in something so strongly, they'd fight for it." points at Maya. "Maya."

"Yes, sir," she responds.

"Present your homework."

Maya shakes her head. "Can't do that, sir."

"Why not?"

"That's what I'm fighting against, sir."

"Oh, this could go on for a while," Farkle whines. He takes a sleeping mask from inside his desk and puts it on. "Farkle Farkle Farkle Farkle. Farkle Farkle Farkle Farkle."

"I didn't do my homework, either," Riley lies.

raises an eyebrow at her. "Oh, really?"

Riley nods, smiling at Maya. "Yeah. We're the same now. I don't believe in homework."

"Guess what, Riley? That doesn't make you the same as Maya at all," says, shaking his head in disappointment.

Maya raises her hand. "I have something to say."

looks at her, taken aback. "Wow, I don't know what to do, I've never seen this before. The floor's yours, Ms. Hart."

She stands up and approaches Farkle's desk, slamming his hand on his desk. " Get up, Farkle." she pulls on his sleep mask. "You're gonna wanna be awake for this."

Farkle stumbles awake. "Is it our honeymoon?"

"No, you missed that. Now it's time to hand in our essays," Maya tells him.

"Oh! Farkle goes first, Farkle always goes first!" he rushes out the back door to presumably get his homework.

Maya walks around the room. "Alright, everybody who did their homework, put it on your desk."

"Careful there, Ms. Hart," warns as most of the class handed Maya there homework.

"Are you sure about this?" Riley asks Maya.

"I got this," Maya assures her.

"Okay," Riley hands her paper nervously.

Maya walks over to Renato. "Gonna hand it over?"

"Nah. I'm more interested in what you're planning," he tells her.

She winks at him. "Well, you'll just have to wait and see." Maya walks away with Renato's eyes on her.

Carina watches her brother in interest, before poking him on the back.

"What?" he asks her.

"You like her."

"She's interesting."

"Farkle choose that moment to enter the room with an extravagant diorama of the white house in his hand. "The branding of Atlanta led to the end of the Civil War, and of peace. I believe that peace is worth fighting for," Maya walks over and takes snags a sparkler from the diorama. "Hey, that's a pivotal part of my diorama!" she takes another one. "And there goes, Virginia."

Maya walks back to her seat. "The burning of the homework led to the end of the Homework Rebellion because there was no more homework." she stands on her desk, holding the sparkler to the homework stack.

was quick to snatch the homework from Maya's hand. "Alright, alright. That's far enough, Maya. I get it."

"No homework, more freedom!" she chants, encouraging the rest of the class to join her. She holds the sparkler above her head, setting off the sprinklers and the fire alarm."

"Shit!" Renato curses as the class descended into panic.

"Is this all part of your presentation, or is this actually going on?" Farkle asks frantically as most of the class fled the room.

"You okay?" Renato asks Maya, he reaches for her hand, helping her down the table.

"I'm fine," Maya looks over at , who was frowning at her. "But I don't think I will be."

"Ms. Hart, you have detention. The principal will determine if it goes farther than that," tells Maya as Farkle climbed on top of him. He turns to his daughter. "Ms. Matthews, please leave."

"I deserve detention, too!" Riley protests.

frowns at her. "No, you don't. You didn't do anything. And because you didn't do anything, your best friend is in very big trouble," he looks up at Farkle. "Alright, Farkle, you can get down now."

"Well, you're actually quite comfortable, sir," Farkle tells him.

"Thank you... Get off!"

"Farkle isn't going anywhere!"

A while later, Renato was drying himself off with a towel he got from the nurse when he caught sight of a despondent Maya, who was slumped down in front of her locker.

Walking over to her, he sits down behind her, handing her his towel. "Here."

Maya accepts the towel from her. "Thanks," she tries to smile, but it came out as a grimace.

"You okay?"

"No. I just lost my best friend."

Renato snorts. "You mean the girl that just tried to get a detention with you."

"…I went too far."

"At least you admit it." he glances over at her. "Can I ask you a question?"

"You just did," she teases. "But you can ask me another one."

"Funny. Why did you go that far? You could have just done the homework?"

"What's the point? I have nobody at home to help me? Unlike you, I don't have a mom to be disappointed in me; she's too busy working to notice."

"Yeah, that can be hard," he stands, turning he holds his hand out to help her up.

She accepts the hand allowing him to haul her up. "How would you know?"

"I just do. Can I give you a piece of advice?"

She shrugs. "Sure."

"Camminare con un amico nel buio è meglio che camminare da solo nella luce."

"Huh!? What does that mean?"

"It's something my mom says all the time. Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light. You shouldn't stop your friendship with Matthews because you're scared she's too good for you."

At that moment, Carina walks up to the two of them. "There you are. Mom said she's coming to pick us up."

Renato raises an eyebrow at her. "Weren't you just gonna ask her to bring us a change of clothes."

"Are you really gonna complain about getting out of school early?"

"Yeah, you're right," he looks back at Maya. "You good now?"

"Yeah, I am. Thanks, Raguccio."

"You're welcome, Hart."

She passes him back the towel. "I'll see you two later."

When she was gone, Carina pokes her brother in the chest. "Again. You like her."

He shoves her finger away, ruffling her wet hair. "I might."
