"Lullaby"
Roxas's blue colored eyes shot open to see the dark ceiling above him. He didn't have to check the clock to know it had to be around after midnight. He then heard loud crying coming from Ventus's room. He rolled over to see Namine's back as his wife was still fast asleep. He then carefully got up from their covers and bed.
He wore his black muscle shirt and grey shorts as he proceeded to his son's room. When he arrived there he saw that little Ven was in his usual standing up position crying as he held onto the bars to the crib. "Hey Ventus, bad dream buddy?" Roxas tried to comfort his son by leaning down to pick up the toddler from his crib.
Roxas started to rock him back and forth hoping that would put him back to sleep like any other night, but he was being extremely fussy tonight. Roxas closed his eyes to give them a short rest as Ventus's crying was still in his ears. "Shh..Shh, it's ok, daddy's got you. Let's see if a warm bottle won't change your attitude." Roxas said, holding Ventus closely to his chest as he hurried downstairs to the kitchen. When he opened the fridge Roxas was relieved to see a few milk bottles remained prepared and just needed to be heated up. Roxas reached in and grabbed one of the bottles before turning to face the microwave until he thought of something.
Roxas quickly put Ventus down on the counter before hovering both his free hands between the cold milk bottle and casted a Fire spell between it, warming it up to an acceptable temperature. He remembered Namine performing the same trick and he's been practicing it for a while now...which would explain why they were running low on bottles. He then checked the bottle temperature and it seemed right out of the microwave as he shook it and scooped his son back into his arms. The two blonds made their return trip to Ventus's crib. Roxas then laid him down in his crib before Ventus quickly snatched the milk bottle out of his hands and started sucking on it.
Roxas laughed at his son's eagerness for the warm milk. He then rested his arms on the crib's rail before a soft humming came from his throat. He saw it taking effect on the toddler as he started to get drowsy. The bottle was empty as Ventus was soon overtaken by sleep. "I'll hold your hand while you sleep, don't be afraid I won't let shadow touch your dreams." Roxas softly sung to him as he leaned down to plant a kiss on his son's forehead.
"I always love that lullaby,"
Roxas jumped slightly at the arrival of wife standing at the door. She was wearing her white nightgown as she walked over to Roxas.
"I thought you were sleeping," Roxas said.
Namine giggled as she leaned her head on his broad shoulders. "I was, until moments ago when I woke up to your beautiful singing,"
Roxas blushed hearing her praise his singing voice. It was always something he was self conscious over. Even though Namine told him many countless times over the course of their relationship that he sounded perfect to her.
"Is that a blush I see?" Namine teased him with a smug grin.
"I think that's enough talking for tonight, come on let's go back to bed," Roxas replied still feeling embarrassed.
"What? I'm just teasing you! You know I love your singing," Namine continued as she looked down towards Ven sleeping. "Do you remember when you first sang that lullaby to him?" Namine asked him.
"Yeah...It was when you were pregnant with him" Roxas answered as the fondness of the memory flowed to the front of his mind.
"Yeah it was during one of those rough nights when Ventus wouldn't stop kicking and would keep me up all night," she said.
"That's when I came up with the idea of singing to him to try and calm him down. I didn't really have a song written down. I just sang what came to me in snippets and before I knew it we already had a lullaby for him," Roxas said.
"It also became one of my favorite songs too," Namine added, giving Roxas a kiss on his already reddened cheek.
Roxas smiled, "That makes me happy to hear," he told her.
Suddenly they both heard a soft yawn escape from Ventus as they looked down to see he was still fast asleep. He moved around a little, but besides that he was still in his own peaceful dream world. "I think that's our cue to head back to bed," Roxas told her. Namine nodded as the two parents quietly made their way back to their bedroom for the rest of the night.
