Chapter 4

When Subaru opened his eyes again, he just thought of what happened moments before his death. Dwight Fairfield. A man Subaru just met. A man Subaru hardly knew. Took the fall for him. Though Subaru ended up dying in the end, of course, Subaru couldn't ignore Dwight's courageous and selfless act.

The fact that Dwight, badly injured, didn't hesitate to save him, was something Subaru admired. Subaru never expressed it, but he felt like Dwight was just the cowardly type. Especially from his appearance. He was scrawny, and seemed just as weak as Subaru was.

Subaru: "I was wrong. Dwight.. You were the bravest of us all. And that's why.. I won't let you or anyone else die!"

Subaru got to his feet. It was time for him to start this loop again. For the fourth time now. Subaru ran to where he knew Meg was already located.

Subaru: "After doing this a few times, I have a jist of where everyone is located. Before, it took me a while to find everyone because this place was all new to me. But now, I know that I can get to everyone quickly, due to experience."

Once again, Subaru found Meg. Like last time, they introduced themselves, and Subaru explained to her everything about the killer and his traps, the hooks, etc.

Subaru: "There's a shack up ahead. You should find another man in there. His name is Dwight Fairfield, ok? Ask him about these "generators" and he'll explain it to you. While you do that, there's another person that I have to find."

Meg: "Wait. Another man? How do you know?"

Subaru: "Uhh, let's just say I met him before."

Meg nodded and headed to the shack that Subaru instructed her to go to. Subaru himself went after Emilia, which he knew exactly where she was. Subaru quickly yet quietly made his way over to the generator that Emilia was at.

Emilia: "Subaru!"

Subaru signaled Emilia to keep it down by putting his finger to his lips.

Subaru: "Emilia. I'll explain everything later. Just come with me. And you have to be quiet, understand?"

Emilia nodded in understanding. Subaru signaled her to follow him, and then led her back to the shack.

In the last loop, the killer found Dwight before he could get Emilia safely to the shack. But then again, he knew that he was a lot faster in this loop than the previous ones. The killer has not yet arrived, and Subaru knows that they all have to be quick if they don't want to get caught.

Subaru: "Alright, we're back."

Subaru led Emilia into the shack, and Dwight and Meg were already working on the generator.

While those two were busy on the generator, Subaru explained everything to Emilia.

Emilia: "S-so there's a killer? And he has traps? And… there's exit gates.. And the only way to power them is by fixing these.. Generators?"

Subaru: "Yes, exactly, Emilia-tan. Dwight. Meg. Can I tell you guys something real quick?"

The two of them shifted their eyes to Subaru.

Subaru: "I have a feeling that the killer will find his way here soon. So we need to hurry. If you can't finish this generator right now, then we'll have to come back and finish it later. I have a bad feeling in my stomach."

Meg: "Alright, thanks. We'll look out for him."

Dwight: "Y-yeah, I'm sure there's plenty of places to hide around here. I h-hope."

Subaru nodded.

Subaru: "Well, we want to get out of her as soon as possible, so we're going to have to split up. Me and Emilia will go one way to find other generators, while you and Meg go and find others. Got it? It's a good plan, right? Considering the fact the killer can only be at one place at one time. He can't get us all if we're all together. We have a better chance to escape that way."

Dwight: "Y-yeah, that makes sense to me. I have no qualms with that."

Meg: "Yeah, same here."

Subaru: "Great! Then it's a plan. Also, if you guys find anything, like items or something, make sure to grab it. I remember finding a flashlight around here somewhere. It made going through the darkness a lot easier."

Meg: "You know what else that flashlight could do? Blind that son of a bitch. Blinding him could help us evade him for a short while."

Subaru: "Wow, I never thought of that! I'll keep that into consideration."

And with that, Subaru and Emilia headed out of the shack, leaving Dwight and Meg on the generator.

Subaru turned.

Subaru: "Just remember. You need to get out of here quick, alright? And stay safe!"

The two of them nodded to Subaru as they went off.

Subaru led Emilia around the area. Subaru didn't want to go back to the generator that Emilia was at. He felt like the killer knew that they were there and didn't want to risk running into him. Subaru also knew the traps could be anywhere, so they had to be extra careful while walking around.

Subaru: "Emilia. Make sure to walk slowly and to also take a look around at the ground, alright? There could be traps anywhere. If we do find some, we could also try to disarm them."

Emilia nodded in response.

Emilia: "Oh, Subaru! Look! There's a chest over there!"

Subaru: "Oh, awesome!"

The first time Subaru was here, he had found a chest within the basement of one of the shacks. He was relieved that there was more than one chest. Something useful could definitely be found in one of those chests.

Subaru and Emilia approached the chest. Subaru knelt down and unlocked it.

Subaru: "Ah, it's a medkit! This'll come in handy!"

Subaru looked inside the kit and examined its contents. There were bandages, gauze, cotton, etc. This could help heal a wound or two.

Subaru: "Emilia. I want you to hold onto this one, alright?"

Emilia: " Alright. I will."

Subaru handed Emilia the medkit and they pressed onward.

Subaru: "I want to grab the flashlight before we do a generator. Come this way. I know where it is."

Subaru knew that there was a trap near the shack. In his first loop, Subaru had tried running away from the killer to hide in the shack. But before he could make his way into the shack, he was caught in one of the killer's bear traps. Now that Subaru knew there was a trap somewhere, he knew how to avoid it.

Subaru led Emilia to the shack.

Subaru: "Be careful. There's a trap around here. Watch your step."

Subaru made his way into the shack, while he told Emilia to look for the trap and disarm it. Subaru quietly made his way downstairs in the basement, went around the corner, and unlocked the chest. He got exactly what he was looking for: The flashlight.

Subaru put the flashlight in his pocket as he made his way upstairs.

Subaru: "Emilia?"

Emilia: "I'm out here, Subaru! I found the trap and disarmed it!"

Subaru met up with Emilia outside and saw the disarmed trap.

Subaru: "Alright, Emilia! Nice work!"

Subaru felt his spine chill. There was a presence here.

Subaru grabbed the flashlight from his pocket and shined it around.

It was him. The killer. The same man they had encountered before. He was just standing there, staring at them.

Subaru's hands were trembling.

Subaru: "Shit. He must've heard the trap getting disarmed, and he made his way back to us! Well, at least he never made it to Dwight and Meg, but still! This is a tough situation. I'm so scared.."

Subaru didn't know what to do. The killer was standing right in front of him and Emilia. He was ready to kill them. Again.

Subaru clenched his fists.

Subaru: "I won't let it happen again. We're going to make it out this time!"

Subaru let out a roar.

Subaru: "Alright, you bastard! Bring it on! We'll kick your ass, escape, and have a happy ending! That I promise!"

Filled with determination in his heart, though filled with fear at the same time, was ready to find a way to escape the man before him and Emilia.

The man stepped forward. Cleaver ready.
