Summary:
"Playing Tetris? What if our kid is so addict to games as you are?"
"The fault will be all yours."
Gamers
"I'm home!" Shikamaru sais as he crossed the door, taking off his shoes in the doorway.
"Welcome back." He heard his wife answer. He followed her voice to find her laying in the couch, her legs extend and her back in the a cushion by the couch arm. Her leg pains did not allow her to sit over her legs, so she kept them stretched. Her protruding belly evidenced her pregnancy, and in that moment, she was using it to support her arms while she pushed the buttons and looked concentrated to the small screen of his green Brick Game*
"What are you playing now?" He asked her.
"Tetris." Her answer was short and straight.
"Tetris? Don't you get bored?"
"Nah, it is fun. I have to decide fast on how to move and match the pieces. And here I can defeat you, beating your record."
"My game record was pretty high, you know right?"
"Of course. They asked you to try the game to see how far the game could go, so you had to have a high record." She paused her game to turn her head to him. "I am your wife, you know?" She said mockingly.
"As if I could forget it." He smiled proudly at her, who returned his smile readily.
"So, since I am 'weakened', won't you come give me a kiss? Your welcome kiss?" – She flirted almost defiantly. Temari had a special talent of provoking him many feelings. Not that he was complaining.
Shikamaru, who was still watching his wife by the door frame, started walking slowly towards the couch.
"You know, this technology is already outdated. Don't you want to try using a… another console maybe?" Shikamaru knew that if he said 'Game-Boy', his wife would lecture him and ask who had the genius – look the sarcasm here – idea of calling a game console that way, like it was only meant for 'boys'. For this reason, the Nara opted for the safe pathway, using a more general expression. Besides avoiding an exasperated moment from Temari, he was also ensuring the health of both her and their baby.
"Yeah, I know this is not so up to date, but the simple fact that I can smash you on something is fun enough." Another smile reached her lips, and this one was both childish and feisty. She was determined to surpass him. Always so competitive.
Shikamaru standed by the couch side where his wife was laying, and let his arms slide through her shoulders, until his hands reached her belly, carrying their son. He leaned down to met her lips, Temari already with her head tumbled back to allow the contact. It was a short kiss, but carried the immense love and dedication they had to each other. When they broke their contact, both kept staring each other's eyes for a few moments, before Temari got up from the uncomfortable position. Shikamaru hugged his wife from her back, laying his head on her shoulder and caressing her belly.
Only then Shikamaru looked to the pause screen of her game.
"8652 points, Temari? How long have you been playing this?"
"Don't know. I told you I would smash you!"
"I can only imagine how this child will be… What if our kid is so addict to games as you are?"
"The fault will be all yours."
"Mine?"
"Yes, yours! You are the one who likes to play. Shougi, Go…"
"Well, these are boardgames, it woud make sense if the kid likes boardgames. But if the kid likes videogames, it will be your fault."
"No, it will be YOUR fault! It is your fault because YOU made me play games with you. It is your fault because YOU are making me stay at home all this time with nothing to do-
"This is a medical recommendation, I am only complying."
"AAAND it is YOUR fault because even this game is YOURS!" She stressed, to highlight her point, without hearing to what Shikamaru was saying. "So, if this kid is a game addict, the fault is all yours!"
"Tsk." Shikamaru didn't even try to argue. So competitive. There was no way he could win over her. Not without a great effort. Winning was not that important to him, anyway. "How troublesome."
Temari laughed, a soft and nice laugh, of someone who was enjoying one of these small life pleasures. Shikamaru realized that he didn't bother losing to this woman, over and over again, if only he could hear her laugh. After all, this was still a winning to him, wasn't it?
Final notes:
I had this idea after I read the first chapter of Boruto's novel.
Curiously, I had just found my Brick Game (a green one) that morning , and when I read the chapter I was hit by the ideia immediately. (my friends and I call it "stone idea", because it is like you are hit by a stone)
For those who don't remember or don't know a Brick Game, have a look at Google. As for Tetris, in this version you would usually win 1 point for each eliminated line, but you could make combos eliminating more than one line at once. So, eliminating at once 1 line = 1 point; 2 lines = 4 points; 3 lines = 9 points; 4 lines = 16 points. Seeing that in this game you could not eliminate more than 4 lines at once, you can realize that Temari had a pretty high score.
Now let me tell you a secret: I suck at making romantic stuff and kisses. You may have noticed, my writing is mainly all fluffy.
