Without another thought, the demon launched itself straight to Leo. Time seemed to freeze for the demon as soon as the angels blade entered Leo's heart.
This was the moment when the demon knew for certain that it had made the wrong decision.
Leo pulled the angels blade out with ease as if it wasn't a deadly weapon for angels at all.
"You're far too trusting for a demon. Did you truly believe you could cause harm to an archangel? Let alone kill one?" Leo chided, his voice coming off more powerful than before.
The demon slowly backed up, its eyes searching rapidly for an exit.
Relief flooded through the demon when it had discovered another door on the other side of the room. It quickly raced to the door, wanting to get out as soon as possible.
As the demon opened the door, it was shocked to come face to face with Elijah, Damon, Stefan, Enzo, Bonnie, and Caroline.
Before the demon could turn and run away, it was injected with vervain and wolfsbane. The demon let out a gasp as it fell to the ground and the darkness surrounded it.
Flashback
Damon, Stefan, Enzo, Bonnie, and Caroline made their way to the Mikaelson's manor. If there was truly a demon in Elena they would need help.
Of course Bonnie could try to handle it alone, but they didn't know the extent of the demon's power. It would be wrong to have Bonnie to put her life on the line again.
As they walked into the mansion they came to a stop.
"That's…" Stefan started.
"Elena's scent." Damon breathed.
"But why would she be here?" Caroline questioned.
They all turned their attention to the conversation that started in the other room. Quietly, they followed the sound and were shocked at what they found.
Klaus, Jeremy, and Rebekah were talking to a guy dressed in all white, while Elena was asleep on the other side of the room.
"What's going on here?" Stefan asked, making their presence known.
"Look who decided to join the party." Klaus commented.
"We were discussing how Elena has a demon inside of her." Leo informed, recalling each of them from Elena's vague comments.
"So it's true? She really has a demon inside of her?" Caroline asked.
"Yeah." Jeremy confirmed, sounding worried.
"Worry not, we already have a plan." Klaus informed.
Present time
"It's time Klaus." Leo notified, making his way to the unconscious Elena.
"Wait… time for what?" Bonnie asked.
"I need someone to go into her mind so they can convince her to come back, Klaus is the best option." Leo explains.
"What if he fails?" Caroline asked nervously.
"Then Elena will be lost forever." Leo informed.
The whole room seemed to freeze as the group eyed each other.
"Well, what are you waiting for? Go save the love of your life." Rebekah said impatiently.
Klaus raised an eyebrow at her before realizing that's exactly what Elena was to him. She was the love of his life.
He stepped towards Leo when he felt an arm grab his shoulder. He turned and met his eyes with Damon.
"Don't fail her." He said.
This was the first time he heard Damon sound worried like this. He didn't care how Damon felt at the moment, but he gave him a quick nod before joining Leo.
Leo placed his hand on the dagger and held out his free hand for Klaus to grab. Klaus quickly grabbed it and watched as Leo closed his eyes and began chanting in a language, not even he understood.
Suddenly, he was in a house; which he assumed to be the Gibert house, but it had been emptied and contained multiple doors with different colors.
Klaus walked up to the yellow door and opened it, he was immediately hit with memories of Elena's childhood, how happy she was with her family, her moments with her childhood friends, and how she got her first journal. Then it stopped as the door quickly shut.
Klaus looked down to find an angry 8-year-old Elena.
"You're not supposed to be here. You weren't supposed to see that." She said with her arms crossed.
"I'm here to-" Klaus started but was interrupted.
"I know why you're here, and she doesn't want to see you. Please leave."
"If you know why I'm here, you know that if I don't get her back she'll be lost forever."
"Have you ever stopped to think that maybe that's what we want?" A 12-year-old Elena said, making her presence known.
"I'm supposed to believe that you want to be lost forever." Klaus said with a chuckle.
"Yes. After everything we did, we can't live with ourselves. We can't face all of our loved ones knowing that we have taken so many innocent lives." The 12-year-old confessed.
"You can and you will." Klaus said as he opened a blue door.
He was hit with every sad memory she had, those memories were filled with death. He noticed that there were only a few that hadn't been about someone dying.
"Stop! Please!" The 8-year-old begged as she tried to grab him, but her hand went straight through his body as if he was a ghost.
"He's not going to stop, let's just lead him to her so we can avoid this. I don't enjoy him going through our memories." A 16-year-old Elena announced.
"Are you insane?" The 12-year-old asked.
"Maybe." The 16-year-old replied.
The 12-year-old shrugged before hitting her bottom lip.
"Should we warn him?" The 8-year-old asked.
"Warn me what?" Klaus asked.
Then he heard a high-pitched scream as the house started shaking violently.
"This is why we got rid of the furniture!" The 16-year-old yelled.
When the shaking and screaming stopped they all stood up.
"What was that?" Klaus asked.
"That's what we were going to warn you about…" the 8-year-old said, rubbing her arm.
"I would explain, but it would be better for us to show you." The 16-year-old said.
"No, what about the demon? It'll be mad." The 12-year-old said, making sure to whisper the word demon.
"Worry not, we already killed it." Klaus quickly told her.
The girls sighed in relief.
"Well then, let's get going… just be careful in there." The 16-year-old warned as she led him up the staircase.
The 16-year-old stopped at a white door and opened it up. Klaus looked around to find that they all disappeared.
He walked into the room and found Elena curled up in the corner rocking back and forth, her head was to her knees so he doubted that she could see him.
"Elena." Klaus breathed.
Elena stopped in place, and she was now visibly shaking.
"Please go away! I can't take it anymore. You win okay?" Elena said with a shivering voice.
"Elena look at me." Klaus demanded as he got to her level.
Elena looked up slowly, her eyes widened in fear at the sight of him.
"I've done nothing wrong! Why are you torturing me like this?" Elena asked.
"Elena it's me, it's Klaus." Klaus said as he touched her cheek lovingly, trying to calm her down.
She slapped his hand away from her and back father into the corner.
"No! I'm not going to fall for your tricks again!" Elena yelled as the house began to shake lightly.
"I'm not lying Elena, we killed the demon that was inside of you. All I want is for you to come back to me." Klaus confessed.
Elena paused and slowly looked up into his eyes, they were just how she remembered them. She reached out and gently touched his face. He noticed that the shaking had stopped.
"If what you say is true, and the demon has finally been killed… then I want you to leave me here, or kill me." Elena said.
"What? No-" Klaus argued, causing Elena to hold a finger to his lips.
"Klaus, it's far too late for me to be saved. I have already been damaged, and there's only so much I could take. You'd all be far better without me." Elena confessed.
"Is that what you truly believe? You think that we will just move on?" Klaus asked, hatred and disgust lacing through the words 'move on'.
Elena gulped as she played with her fingers.
"I don't know Klaus…" Elena said, suddenly unsure of herself.
"Elena, we need you." Klaus said, holding her hands.
"What about what I need Klaus? I'm not okay. I've done so much, and caused so much death…" Elena said with tears in her eyes.
"We will deal with it together, just me and you. No one else has to know." Klaus said as he rubbed his thumb across her hand.
"Do you promise?" Elena asked, cringing at how vulnerable and childish she sounded.
"I do." Klaus promised.
Without thinking she launched herself into Klaus's arms as she cried, he held onto her as she cried into her shirt.
And suddenly he was back in the real world.
