Klaus's eyes snapped open, as Leo pulled the angels blade out of Elena's body.
"What happened? Did it work?" Jeremy asked, concern clear in his voice.
"I… don't know." Klaus said, keeping his eyes on Elena.
"What do you mean you don't know?" Damon asked as anger and worry filled him.
"Wait, I think something is happening." Caroline announced as she heard Elena's heartbeat.
Their attention snapped to Elena as her eyes slowly opened. Klaus was immediately by her side, helping her sit up.
Elena quickly turned her head to the side of the bed and vomited some type of black liquid. The substance spewed out of her mouth at an incredible speed.
"It's the demon's essence leaving her body… It's completely normal." Leo informed as he put his hand on Elena's back in an attempt to comfort the poor girl.
As soon as Elena was done she wiped her mouth off with her arm.
"Hey Elena, are you okay?" Jeremy asked.
Elena nods her head slowly.
"Thank god." Jeremy said as he pulled Elena into a hug.
Elena gradually wraps her arms around Jeremy, taking comfort in her younger brother. She pulls away after a while and turns to Leo.
"Thank you for everything you did, Leo." She says with a small sad smile.
"There's no need to thank me." Leo says dismissively.
"You could've easily killed me, but you chose to save me… I don't take that lightly, so thank you." Elena repeats.
"It would not be easy to kill you, you underestimate yourself… but I suppose I will accept your gratitude." Leo says before disappearing into thin air.
"I didn't know he could do that." Caroline admits with a giggle.
Elena gets herself off the bed and looks at all of her loved ones.
"I don't deserve any of you, not after everything I've done." Elena admits as a tear falls down her face.
"Elena, you didn't do any of it… that was the demon inside of you." Stefan says.
Elena shakes her head.
"You're wrong." Elena informed.
"Elena, you can't blame yourself for something that the monster did." Bonnie says as she moves towards Elena.
Elena takes a step back.
"It's my fault, I should've fought harder to stop it." Elena says.
"Elena, don't do this to yourself." Caroline begs.
"Blondies right, you did everything you could do in that situation." Damon adds.
Klaus quickly notices the subtle shaking of the mansion that slowly got worse as the conversation went on.
"No, I-" Elena is immediately cut off by Klaus.
"Calm down, love." he tells her as he puts a hand on her shoulder.
Elena takes a deep breath before releasing it.
"Elena, I think I speak for everyone when I say whatever you did or didn't do, we forgive you. You have to understand that it's not completely your fault, it's clear that you regret what you did." Rebekah tells her.
The others nod in agreement. Elena sighs and accepts the fact that they don't blame her for anything the demon had done.
After everyone leaves, Klaus escorts Elena to her old room. He notices the shift in her breathing when she stepped in. He tries to offer her another room but she declines and tells him that she needs to be alone. He's hesitant on leaving her, but he respects her wishes and leaves the room.
Later, there is a knock on her door. She opens the door expecting to see Klaus but is surprised to see Elijah.
"Elijah." Elena says.
"I wanted to make sure you were okay." He tells her.
She nods and opens the door wider, allowing him to come in.
They talk for what seems like hours.
She pauses when Elijah asks about her relationship with Klaus, unable to come up with an answer.
Only then does she realize that they've never talked about what they are to each other.
Elijah stays with her until she falls asleep.
He frowns at how little the room had changed over time, he could still see Elena on that wall as she had allowed herself to desiccate. He shook his head and quietly left the room hoping Elena doesn't see the same thing when she looks at the room.
He finds Klaus leaning against the wall that had been close to Elena's room. They silently nod to each other as Elijah walks away.
