Chapter 3

As Elizabeth walked into the ballroom she was overcome with emotions. The room was beautiful, illuminated with lights and candles, it was like heaven on Earth, or close enough for her. As she quickly scanned the crowds, she felt her nerves rising again and her confidence fall. She couldn't do this, this was all too much, but with her mother pulling her into the ballroom she knew that there was no going back.

Nathan entered on the opposite side of the ballroom, hoping not to be noticed straight away so he could take a quick scan of the room for himself. It was nicely decorated, he took a mental note to congratulate his mother on her success in designing. He glanced through the crowds, looking for a few women he could talk too, he knew the type to be avoided, most likely those who already have found him and were trying to gain his attention.

Nathan let his eyes fall on a young women, she had brown hair and she was shorter than him, he could tell. The mystery women kept moving around the room, clearly being pulled along by her mother, meaning that Nathan had to venture past the entrance. Moving through the crowds, Nathan kept following this beautiful women, he would never admit it, but he was captivated by her beauty. The lady and her mother stopped to talk to two women he couldn't recognise. Then, he saw something that he would never forget, something that would be ingrained in his mind forever, she smiled, the mystery women smiled, and he found himself smiling too. Her smile seemed to light up the whole room, she was an angel, a true angel, it was like they were the only people in the busy ballroom, just Nathan and his mystery women. The women must have noticed him because she turned her head and they locked eyes, she was still smiling, how Nathan wished she would stop smiling, so he could stop staring, stop wanting her. Nathan knew he was getting in too deep, he had to go, he felt his collar getting tighter. So with a swift turn, he left the ballroom, heading for gardens.

Elizabeth and her mother were engaged in conversation with two women Elizabeth had never met before, Lady Rosemary LeVoux and Lady Clara Stanton. Clara was a widow, after losing her husband in a mining accident and Rosemary, well what she knew from her two minutes of conversation was that she was extremely outgoing, but loyal, and about Elizabeth's age, she hoped they would be friends in the future. Bored of the direction of the conversation, Elizabeth turned her head and looked around the room until she spotted a man looking at her, he was smiling, he was smiling at her.

Elizabeth couldn't breathe, there, standing a few feet away from her was the best looking man she had ever seen, and that wasn't an exaggeration. Elizabeth didn't know too many men, but she knew enough to know that this man was handsome. He was tall, taller than her, with brown hair and what she guessed were blue eyes. He was perfect, looks wise of course, Elizabeth knew better to judge a person on their appearance, but she had to get to know this man, he had a lopsided smile that forced her to smile back, there was no way she could not smile while he was around. As she made a move to leave her conversation with her mother's friends, he darted out the door. She looked away for one second and then he was gone. Elizabeth excused herself from the conversation, telling her mother that she had spotted a old friend and followed the mystery man out the door.

Nathan was heading to his favourite spot, the gazebo by the lake, and unbeknownst to him, his mystery women, Elizabeth was going after him.

AN: What do you think, will they meet?
