Rain Soaked Wishfulness
"Why are you back here?" Percy questioned as a drenched Oliver walked in through the doors of the bookshop, "And why are you dripping water everywhere?"
"Got caught in the rain," Oliver shrugged as he made his way to the bathroom at the back of the shop.
"You wouldn't get caught in the rain if you stayed in your own store." But Percy's retort fell on deaf ears.
"But my store doesn't have you in it," Oliver poked his head out of the bathroom drying his hair with a paper towel. "Besides, I needed to buy something."
"You always say that and then never buy anything."
Percy decided to ignore Oliver's flirty comments like always. He knew all about the soccer player and wanted nothing to do with him. Oliver Wood was the campus heart breaker and Percy had no interest in getting his heart broken by a soccer player of all people.
"Well, I actually need something for a class this time." Oliver started to walk between the aisles leaving small puddles behind.
"Okay, you cannot drip water in the store, you're going to ruin the books."
"I'll clean it up."
"I don't care about the floor," Percy groaned, "I can't sell water-damaged books."
"I'll just buy them all then," Oliver smirked.
"My hero." Percy rolled his eyes, "But seriously you have got to go."
"You're going to kick me out while it's still raining?"
"You're already soaked," Percy walked to the closet and got the mop out, "Just tell me what you need, and I'll get it."
Oliver hummed as he pulled his phone out of his pocket. He pulled up a webpage and showed Percy the book on the screen. Percy knew they didn't have it in stock. Despite being in a college town, they didn't carry many textbooks since the campus bookshop had them.
"We don't sell that," Percy started to mop the floor as he waited for Oliver to leave. "You know you can get that at the bookstore on campus, right?"
"Yeah, but the campus bookstore doesn't have you," Oliver threw in a wink which happened to be new despite the line being old.
"You exhaust me."
"Is there no way that you can order it for me?"
"It's a bookshop not a library, it doesn't work like that."
Oliver walked over to Percy and took the mop from his hands and began to clean up the water on the floor. Percy huffed and went back to his spot at the cash register even though he knew no one was going to be entering the store. The rain had cleared the streets and Oliver had been the only person dumb enough to walk in it. Anyone with brains would have stayed inside where it was warm and dry.
Okay, Percy knew that Oliver wasn't completely stupid because if he was failing at school then he would have been kicked off the soccer team. But that didn't mean that Oliver earned any brownie points from Percy. There was no way that Percy would ever like Oliver. They just didn't make sense together. Oliver was the popular guy that everyone wanted to be with, and Percy was, well, Percy. The nerd that focused too much on school and his job and didn't have time to obsess over cute guys. At least, that's what Percy told himself. He spent a lot of time thinking about one cute guy in particular but he'd never tell anyone else that.
In reality, he'd be upset if Oliver stopped coming in after his own shift ended. It was, in a sad way, the highlight of Percy's shift. Especially when the store was dead. He could only entertain himself so much and like the good student he was, all of his schoolwork was finished.
"I don't think it's safe for me to go outside," The rain had increased in power and the wind caused it to whip against the windows. Not even a car drove by on the street.
Percy sighed and looked Oliver up and down, "There are some extra clothes in the back if you want to change."
"Why do you have extra clothes here?"
"They aren't mine," Percy scoffed, "Although it pays to be prepared in situations. They're just extra uniforms."
"You won't get in trouble for handing out your elusive bookshop uniform?"
"Do you want the change of clothes or not?"
Oliver smiled, "Yeah, I'll take it."
Percy made his way to the break room where he knew the uniform shirts were. Oliver would have to deal with his jeans being slightly damp because they didn't have any spare pants. He also grabbed one of the crew neck sweaters just in case Oliver was cold.
"Here," Percy dumped the clothes into Oliver's arms. "You can change in the bathroom."
"It's just my shirt," Oliver went to remove his shirt and Percy shrieked. "What?"
"You can't just take your shirt off in the middle of the store!"
"Not like anyone is going to walk in," but Oliver didn't push further and disappeared into the bathroom again.
Percy could feel the heat on his face and prayed that he wasn't as red as his hair. His heart raced and he tried to tell himself that it was just another stupid ploy from Oliver to mess with him. He wouldn't be won over by some abs. Percy wasn't vain like that; he cared about more important things like class rank.
"Do you think the rain will let up soon?" Oliver scared Percy causing him to yell again. "Sorry, didn't mean to scare you."
"Well," Percy looked at his watch. He had another two hours before his own shift was over. "If it doesn't clear up when my shift ends, I can drive you back to campus."
Percy's car was his pride and joy because he earned it himself. Sure, it wasn't the best car on the planet, but it worked, and it meant he didn't have to walk back to campus like Oliver did. Although the jock probably chose to walk like the weirdo he was.
"I'd like that very much," Oliver moved to sit next to Percy behind the counter, "Until then it looks like we're stuck in this bookshop together."
"Great," Percy turned to hide his smile, "What a wonderful way to pass the time."
They talked about anything that came to mind as they watched the rain through the shop's windows. Percy went through his clothing checklist as Oliver waited for him in his car. The rain had cleared a little but not enough to make Oliver walk back, not like Percy would take back his offer now.
They drove in silence, and Percy made sure to drive a little slower than usual. He wouldn't want Oliver to think he was a terrible driver after all. They lived in the same building which Percy never really acknowledged.
"See you tomorrow, Weasley," Oliver said as he stepped out of Percy's car.
And like always Percy would be looking forward to seeing Oliver despite his better judgment. Maybe he was setting himself up to have his heart broken by a soccer player, but he didn't care. It was nice to be wanted for once and he'd let himself enjoy it for now.
