IT'S A SNOW DAY!
They all held their breath as they sat in the living room staring at the phone. Outside, the snow was beginning to pile up and they were all hoping for a snow day.
"We would have gotten a phone call by now," Percy said which caused his siblings to look at him.
"Have a little hope would ya," Fred responded as he scooted closer to the phone.
"There's no way we're having school today," Ron said from his place on the floor.
"I hope Mum lets us play outside if we have a snow day," Ginny pondered as George braided her hair into two pigtails.
"I doubt she'd say no," George wrapped a hair tie around the bottom of the second braid.
The shrill sound of their phone cut through their conversation. They all froze in their spots as they waited for the answering machine to play the recorded message that was hopefully from their school.
"Dear students, all schools within the Hogwarts school district will be closed today due to the snow."
The siblings jumped up from their seats and rushed towards the back of their house to put on their snow gear. They hadn't even eaten breakfast yet since their mother was still making it in the kitchen.
"Mum, we're going outside," Fred yelled as he finished helping Ron pull on his boots.
"What about school?" Molly yelled back, muffled from the distance.
"IT'S A SNOW DAY!" They all shouted at the same time before rushing out the door.
A flurry of snow whipped up in front of their faces as they began devising their plans.
"We definitely need to have a snowball fight," Fred stated and George nodded in agreement.
"Do we have time before breakfast?" Ron asked as he looked around their snow-covered yard in wonder.
"We can start it and have a break for breakfast." George added.
"There's an uneven amount of us," Percy retorted.
"It'll be you and the babies versus us," Fred laughed.
"We're not babies," Ron and Ginny cried as the older three laughed at them.
They were both in the double digits now which meant they were far from being babies compared to the older siblings. Maybe, Bill could call them babies but it was unfair for the twins and Percy to call them babies.
"It's fine," Percy said after he calmed down from laughing, "We'll beat them."
"There's no way we're beating the twins," Ron whined.
"Not with that attitude," Ginny scoffed and shoved Ron lightly.
"Okay, rules," Fred announced as he grabbed a stick and drew a line in the snow. "This is our side and you have the other half. People cannot cross the line, only snow can. Nothing can be added to the snowballs because Mum would kill us if someone got hurt."
"How do we conclude who won," Percy asked.
"When the other team admits defeat."
With that they set a time limit of twenty minutes, hopefully, enough time to construct their defenses, and for their mother to finish breakfast. They were all beginning to get a bit hungry, but no one wanted to admit it.
The twins' structure left them covered in snow which was a feat in of itself. It wasn't tall enough to cover them when they were standing, only if they were crouched behind it. They had also obtained a bucket that had been abandoned by their father's shed.
The other team, the baby team, as the twins had declared went with multiple structures. Each of them was tasked with creating their own defense to hopefully spread them out enough to defeat the twins.
"Breakfast is ready," Molly called from the door just as their time was finishing, "You can continue playing after you've eaten."
After their meal, they rushed outside again. Excited to finally start their snowball fight. When Percy had realized the twins had a place to store snowballs he went and dug out old plastic sheds for them to use. They were the longer ones which meant there was enough surface area to leave snowballs without them touching and sticking to each other. Something the twins hadn't thought about it seemed.
"GO!" Fred yelled before he ducked behind their snow structure. George had already begun to make snowballs, but the other team wouldn't have known since he was hidden from view.
The teams worked in silence as they made their ammunition until a snowball hit the front of Percy's structure.
"They've started firing!" Ron yelled from where he was hiding. He had a snowball in his gloved hand.
"Fire back!" Ginny shouted as she continued to add to her snowball collection. "I need more time."
Ron threw the ill-shaped snowball, but it didn't manage to make it over the boundary line.
"Try a little harder, Ron." George taunted as he threw a snowball back.
In no time the siblings were laughing as snowballs sailed through the air. Thankfully no one had been hit with any that contained harmful debris. There had been a head shot but it had occurred because Fred stepped in front of George as he threw one. So, it hit the back of Fred's head and didn't have enough momentum to hurt him.
They hadn't been able to declare a winner by lunchtime, so Molly made them rule it as a draw. They were soaked, cold, but ridiculously happy.
