Mica shoved his finger in his nose as he watched his older sister get formally introduced to the Crown Prince of Eraklyon. Mica thought he looked more like a seven-year-old than a prince, but Alma blushed when she curtsied anyway. Mica's dad smiled proudly down at his daughter before sharing one of those secret, grown-up looks with King Sky. Mica leaned over to tell Esme something, but she was too busy trying to eat her own foot.
"Stop that."
Mica's mom swatted his finger away from his nose before looking up at the sound of her echo. On the other side of the throne room, Queen Bloom said the exact same thing to her youngest daughter as she picked a scab on her elbow. The two queens smiled at each other, but that littlest princess caught Mica's eye. She glanced at her smiling sister and up at her mother before sneaking away.
Mica did the same, checking to make sure his mother wasn't looking at him before running after the little girl. When he caught up, he found her on the balcony, laying on the wide, flat top of the marble railing. Propping herself up on her forearms, she spat over the edge and watched as it hit the lawn below.
"Are you allowed to do that?"
The princess nearly fell over the railing in her surprise. Looking back over her shoulder at Mica, he was struck by how piercing her small, blue eyes were. They looked just like King Sky's eyes.
"No. Are you going to tell on me?" she asked. Her voice was high-pitched and mousy.
"No," came his equally small reply. "I'm Mica."
"I'm Jane," she said. "You have a lot of sparkles."
"You have a lot of freckles," he replied.
She gave him a toothy grin and patted the space beside her on the railing. Mica scrambled up beside her and spit over the edge onto the lawn.
I wrote this story because a friend on WCA wanted to make a small comic. It turned out really nice, so it's worth checking out if you're on Amino. Jane is the main character of The Coven Trilogy, which I have spent the last year rewriting. I hope you all stick around to read it!
